Just a little negative aside here, I was just thinking when you lot are listening to an album of Paul's which tracks do you tend to skip? What are your least favorite Paul songs?

Oh yes Driving Rain, that's an odd one and after 12 years of retrospection I think I can say this about it... I wasn't too fond of it to begin with, the first two tracks were always good and then it went a bit odd. Paul struggling to convey his mixed emotions is how my unqualified mind would judge it coupled with this very peculiar dense mix and noisy production it becomes quite a strange experience. But as per so many Paul albums with further listenings it grew and all the peculiarities and almost unfinished lyrics and arrangement made a sort of sense. Now, I still like the production, it's a bit out of fashion at the moment but it'll come back eventually. It's still a little under-done and I think the mix has revealed all that it's going to by now. I'ts about a quarter of an hour too long as well. I think Rinse The Raindrops coulda been a good single if it were edited too. I think it's an average Paul album. With a few standouts. Of course.

EDIT: I thought you meant Denny (but Jimmy sings Medicine Jar). Yeah, otherwise it's not true because they play almost the entire album on RockShow! -

Pretty much *all* of the Pipes of Peace album bar "So Bad" is skippable for me, I'm sorry to say! Perhaps I'll dig out the vinyl soon (the *only* McCartney album for which I never bought the CD reissue!) and revisit my opinions but I'm not feeling it... Interesting review there from *Perry* re Driving Rain - I went from loving it when it first came out and thought it a quite bold and different album for Paul but have since gone off quite it a bit. It has its charms as noted but I confess I don't listen to it on any sort of regular basis. I'd actually consider it a "sub-average" Paul album (but with full marks for effort!). Just nowhere near the standard of most of his work imo, but heck, we're spoiled!
Back to the thread, I feel guilty skipping tracks - and really try not to as I'm a staunch believer in the album concept - *but*... Loup (1st Indian on the Moon) Angry Deliver Your Children Biker Like An Icon Morse Moose and the Grey Goose (and I actually love the song on its own but in the context of following the magnificent Don't Let It Bring You Down...incredibly poor sequencing decision!) None of these are bar Loup are automatic skips - they do tend to get passed by often though! -
Smile Away, Heart Of the Country, Eat at Home One More Kiss, The Medley on RRS Mamunia You Gave Me The Answer Cook Of The House, Warm & Beautiful Children,Children, Famous Groupies Baby's Request Nobody Knows, Front Parlour, Bogey Music What's That You're Doing? , Here Today, Get It, Ebony & Ivory The Other Me, Sweetest Little Show, Hey Hey, Tug Of Peace Ou Est Le Solil ? Calico Skies, Used To Be Bad, Great Day Riding Into Jaipur, Freedom English Tea Dance Tonight, Nod Your Head Nothing To Much Just Outta Sight, Sing The Changes, Light From Your Lighthouse, Is This Love? , & the last 3 tracks. These are just off the top of my head some days there's more, but these are pretty much constant misses.

Seriously!!! And this is why people can't reach any agreement on Paul McCartney's solo career. Because most of the songs on Macca Mad's list, I wouldn't dream of skipping. Smile Away? Eat at Home? Mamunia? Baby's Request? Nobody Knows? Calico Skies? English Tea? OK, I'll gladly give you Ebony & Ivory but Great Day?? Light from Your Lighthouse? I LOVE all of those.
Paul is so many different songwriters rolled up into one. One thing is clear: I could never have dinner at Macca Mad's house. We'd be fighting over the stereo. -
