New ELO and Paul

^ Ironically I think New was the weakest track on that album. There are some great tracks though like On My Way To Work, Queenie Eye, Early Days, I Can Bet and the two classics, Hosanna and Scared. If you exclude Memory Almost Full, then Paul has been consistently writing and recording some of his finest work these last 10 years and certainly doesn't need to be writing with anyone. Paul just needs a strong producer who can weed out the lesser material.
You and I live in opposite universes. Everything you said, I feel the complete opposite. And that is the problem in the McCartney fan universe right now. Everyone knows Band On The Run is a great LP and a classic. But only some think Driving Rain and Chaos are great while many think they are mediocre (like me). The songs you mention from NEW are in the same league as Chaos and Driving. Paul needs to put out an LP that is universally acclaimed and that he goes on TV and promotes and plays songs from and tours and promotes and everyone loves. That has not happened in some time. BTW, I love MAF!!

Yep. The only song on the album that didn't sound like it belonged on the album. It stuck out like barker's eggs.

That's because it's the only song that sounds like a McCartney tune. All the others were him TRYING to write in styles not really his own. Did he do an OK job? Yeah. But if I want to hear Americana, McCartney is not where I go to listen. And Paul HAS been working with strong producers, if they weed out the weaker songs, his albums of the last ten years would have three songs. Maybe.

And it never will, unfortunately.

You may be right. At least not again.

The studio voice is largely shot and songwriting is laboured nowadays. Melodies that once poured from him, no longer come easily. Not since Jenny Wren have I sat up and gone, "Wow!"

Jenny Wren is good.

I never understood the problem with Jeff Lynne producing!almost every work is a classic!Cloud nine for George Harrison,Full moon fever for Tom Petty,Mystery girl for Roy Orbison,Volume one for Traveling Wilburys and Flaming Pie!I Love the spund from all these albums and yes i really Love another work from macca and Jeff together! In the other hand talk about macca is not talk about just let it be and hey jude!that,s why i Love his work...his many many styles! He was the one with McCartney II and just for that i Love his work!!!!!

And that has nothing to do with quality, by the way. Artists Paul's age will never release new music with mass commercial success.

True.

I have a feeling Paul is preferring to work with current chart toppers or younger artists before thinking of his older peers. More work with Kanye is probably over. As long as he avoids Miley Cyrus, I think I'm OK with his top 40 collaborations. ELO may have a great album out, but I'm not convinced Lynn has to be immediately contacted when Paul has other projects for 2016.

It really is more than a thought than anything. Jeff Lynne has a pretty successful career as it is, he doesn't need to collaborate with Paul anymore than Paul needs to collaborate with him. Paul can certainly work with whomever he wants. But I don't know one McCartney fan who is running out and buying any of his ventures into working with current chart toppers or younger artists. They just want good, solid Paul product. A Kanye collaboration is not that. I know some fans who have actually kind of lost interest because of all these detours of Paul's. And what other projects does Paul have for 2016? Beyond "retooling" his next tour?

Some fans have very short memories or maybe they also lost interest when Paul worked with Adam Faith or Peggy Lee and other such.... detours? Or maybe they've simply forgotten that they'd lost interest?

Two words: FLAMING PIE One of his best solo works at the time in 15 years (since TOW/POP era). And look who produced that album........Jeff Lynne. So it's a valid proposal to get Jeff back on board in the future.
-
love all macca collaborations...With Denny Laine, with Stevie Wonder, with Michael Jackson, with Elvis Costello, with Hamish Stuart, with Kanye...yes yes and with that angry lunatic man John Lennon

I'm not a big fan of Lynn's songwriting or production. IMO, ELO was nothing more than a glorified Beatles/solo John/solo Paul cover band. I mean, take hits like 'Cant get it out of my head', 'Mr. Blue Sky', 'Telephone Line' & you can guess what Beatles period he was trying to copy. As for his production, it's overproduced, loud, & sterile. I love Petty, but cant listen to Full Moon Fever today since it sounds so dated. Lynn ruined it. Compare that to Wildflowers, which still sounds rich today. Paul collaborating with Jeff Lynn (again!), would be a snooze. More of the same.
-
I bet that Paul collaboration with Jeff in the future in the songwriting will bring him some good news for his work(A hit for a change)
-
Man one and for all Macca is about all different styles of music!,i like him for helter Skelter and Why don´t we do it in the road! for OB LA DI, OB LA DA,for All together now and OH Darling,Martha My Dear and yes... Yesterday, Hey Jude and Let it be!I absolutely love love love McCartneyII i adore that album!like i love Ban on the run!

A snooze like most of his recent musical output? Yeah, maybe.

I understand that, if you don't like Jeff Lynne, you don't want him collaborating with Paul. But to say Lynne's music is sterile, but think Hope For The Future is hard edged music is really off the mark. THAT is sterile.
