Paul Collaborates On World Premiere NYC Ballet

To bad review, good face. I think Paul have enough experince in this kind of things like to move on. Sometimes things are not as we want, and that is all. Martin maybe is not the guy that Paul thought, is not the first time he has unhappy experience with one artist, I remember Michel Jackson by example

I guess we shall see when info on the sales of the album are released once it hits the streets.

I think you are right. It`s not the massive disaster that some are making out.Paul would obviously have liked it to be a huge success, but I don`t think he will be as bothered about the reviews to this as was the reviews to the Liverpool Oratorio. It just goes to show that Paul has been getting mainly good reviews in recent years - these are actually more normal reviews for Paul! It`s worth remembering, also, that some of the reviews have been positive about the score.

It was a night that will stand out in my mind forever: a beautiful ballet, the music capturing the mood and emotion of each piece of the story. But, overshadowing the ballet itself, was my transcendant experience of closely encountering my lifelong idol. As Paul entered and was ushered to his seat by his body guards (4 of them in arm locks), I seized an opportunity to skirt around the crowd and get behind the videographer who was shining a light on paul's face, and in doing so, when they stopped at his seat section (waiting for Nancy to be escorted into the first tiered seating) Paul was standing not more than two feet from me, directly in front of me for just for a couple of minutes. He happened to catch my eyes for a second but then a guy behind me started to say something to him. I was transfixed. I did not say anything to him and was torn as to whether or not I should because I knew it was not enough time to say anything meaningful, and he as very distracted, looking above the crowd and all around, probably to make sure that Nancy was coming without incident but also prob to look around to make sure that he himself was safe in the large crowd. So, I opted not to say anything. I did call his name once but he did not hear it; it was very noisy and he appeared to be gating everything out at that moment as he was trying to just get to his seat, which also happened to be directly below us. I thought afterward that what I should have done was reached between the arms of the security guard and touch his jacket sleeve (yes, I was that close), and I almost did that but because I didn't know what to say or if I should say anything, and I also didn't want to make a scene, in case the guards got nuts, I just decided to remain silent and transfixed on his absolutely gorgeous eyes and face. I did think afterward that I should have touched his sleeve and simply said, "I just want to take a moment and drink this all in..." I so wish for an opportunity to tell him of my own love story, which places Paul in the center of that storyline, as it is because of him that I both met and fell in love with the most incredible man on the planet, a bass player, influenced by Paul and his music. (I was initially drawn to him by his resemblance to Paul in appearance and even more so in mannerims and facial expressions, but we discovered also that we share a common passion for Paul, the musician and humanitarian, and most of all, the person. I can't imagine ever having the opportunity to do so... In fact, I was so torn because I knew I'd probably never again be that close to him...so close and yet so far.... But that night will remain forever a magical, joyful moment in my life's memory and in that of my partner, who was also there by my side, equally mesmerized, and enamored with the person who influenced his life more than anyone. I know Paul would be happy to know that he was poignantly instrumental in bringing the two of us together, as Paul himself, places a high priority on love in life.

Hopefully once the soundtrack is released next week, it will garner some good reviews. Just reading the review in the Guardian, the critic hadn't even attended the ballet and his review was just a rehash of other articles. Some of the comments as well..tsh! Though Martin's has received a lot of criticism for the choreography, as a director he seems to have fallen short as well. He knew Paul was a complete novice in this area and should have been brave enough to alter the story if not strong enough. Suggesting alterations/changes, seems to be something either people can't do with Paul or don't even attempt. When they do (like Godrich) we get something amazing like Chaos.

FYI, The Independent reviewed Paul's Ocean's Kingdom CD and gave it 3 stars and wrote:
Paul McCartney's first work for dance may be the most satisfying of his classical pieces ? but then, he's been composing for the dance all his life, in a way.

Nice to see some tempered reviews that aren't just out to sharpen the axes of the reviewers. ) Arlene--a lovely story about a close encounter with Paul. ) I'm sure he would love to hear your love story some day...

I can't believe it, but when I read this article about the ballet in The Telegraph, I saw that IIIIIII was mentioned in it! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/the-beatles/8796323/Paul-McCartney-ballets-new-master.html After the wonderful interview with Paul about the ballet, hacking, and the George Harrison documentary, the following line appears: "Outside, a scrum of media, fans and police line the red carpet. A teacher from Vermont has McCartney?s signature tattooed on her arm... That's me. Heading off to figure out how to get a paper copy of this paper so I can add it to my scrapbook... ops:

Thanks, Oobu--I was quite surprised to read that bit about me after reading such a wonderful interview by Paul, and a mini-interview by Stella. ) This is as close to the McCartneys as I'll ever get, lol! lol lol
-
Hope you all saw the posting about the interview on Classical FM in THE BROADCAST. Interview in progress...they are about to play the last movement of the ballet.
-
Thanks, gnome, for the heads up! I'm looking forward to getting the CD in a few days--it's a bit cheaper on Amazon.com than it is on this site, but just for the fun of having a Beatle on the Decca label, I've been toying with the idea of ordering the UK version, as well. wink
-
Today I received an e-mail from Paul McCartney with the download link for the new Ocean's Kingdom music (studio + live), and the notification of the CD being shipped. Can't wait to put it on the Ipod tonight. BTW here and there there is a mention of this music of Paul's being released on Decca, I think The Family Way was also released on Decca in the UK, in 1966.
-
Foxx--do you only get the live performance if you bought the CD through Paul's site? I was hoping the link would also be given to folks who buy the CD through other sources, perhaps in the packaging... If not, looks like I will be buying the UK version, through Paul's site. o

Sir Paul McCartney may be a world famous musician, but he sucks at ballet. The 69-year-old former Beatle tried out the dance form as research for his first-ever ballet score, Ocean's Kingdom, and admitted that his skills left a lot to be desired. here is the link http://www.metrolyrics.com/2011-paul-mccartney-failed-dismally-at-ballet-news.html Moderator Edit Post Edited to Conform with Copyright Forum Guidelines

Herc, There's a thread on the ballet under "Not Such a Bad Boy"--you might want to add the review there, as that's where folks have been posting the reviews...

Walliebaby, as I understood the live performance mp3's are exclusive on Paul's site (Until he decides otherwise, ofcourse), reason why I bought it there and not in my local cd-shop. "All versions include an exclusive free bonus download of the live recording of the world premiere gala performance by the New York City Ballet Orchestra."
