The Song Everyone Loves........But You .

'elenor rigby' has never really got my juices flowing either. i do think this thread only works if the song selected is a bit of a standard. therefore 'plastics' selection of something like 'figure of 8' is meaningless. sorry 'plastic' i think its better to pick something that is widely acclaimed rather than just liked. i would have gone for the horribly overated 'mr bellamy' but i dont think its seriously considered to be anything more than 'filler' to anyone out there but 'memory almost full ' fans. 'calico skies' [by maccamad] is however a valid choice [although i dissagree] because it has become a bit of a modern day mccartney anthem.i even heard a local folk band cover it where i live in whitby quite recently. i think [barb.b] had the right idea with the sheer calibre of her selections although i possibly dont agree with them either. just my thoughts folks.

One song I don't get but most others do is 'Let Me Roll It'...I don't hate it and admit that it's better (but still not a favorite) live.

That's a long list No. 1: C Moon 1985 used to be no. 2 but I'm getting used to it now. It'll never be my fav song though. House Of Wax is another song I really, really can't stand.
All songs I love It does show how much tastes differ. I've never got 'with a little luck' which I know a lot of my friends like. I never used to be a big fan of BOTR or Let me roll it either but after seeing them live I love it. I fear now that songs I would say are songs I used to love but due to being overplayed or not sounding great live I am not to fond of like Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby

I don't like "No More Lonely Nights."
Whats the matter with you,No More Lonely Nights is a classic. Follow Me is a song i don't get,it's dull and boring. :
I don't know... that song to me always sounded so calculated. And I'm not a fan of the sound of it either (especially the guitar solo). Although I was a kid in the 80s... I hated nearly everything about the 80s musically. But I'll agree with you about Follow Me.

Lazys got it right, i'm thinking of songs which are viewed as standards by the generall public who by large ar'nt so called huge Macca fans, or songs like Here Today which are mostly loved to death by hardcore fans but not generally known by joe public....I hope that makes sense

Eleanor Rigby, Listen To What The Man Said, All My Loving

funny that because i could never really tire of listening to the song' band on the run'. its just perfect in every way.i am talking about the recorded version from 1973,not the painfull to listen to live attempt he continues to try and sing. and yet you prefer the live version?..really? horses for courses i suppose. your right about 'let me roll it' mind.it is much better live!

BOTR is a great song..but Paul has just ruined it for me doing it live so much.

Beatles songs would be ( Paul one's ) Michelle, Penny Lane, Good Day Sunshine, All My Loving to name a few, there's more but they would be one's held in less regard, ie Od-La Di- Ob-La-Da, Honey Pie etc.

I know it does make sense in anyway but when I first heard botr I wasnt that fussed, I just couldnt get into it, I had songs which I prefered over it, then when I heard it live in Paris at the l'olympia something just clicked and I finally got it and thought, shit this actually is a good song. You are right the album version is superior to the live version vocally, but hearing it live for the first time thats when I realised it was a fantastic song, it brought up all this energy and excitement in me so as a result I appreciate the song a lot more

I agree about Eleanor Rigby. For me its kind of like I know its amazing thematically and lyrically, and the sound paints a great picture, but I don?t overly dig the melody for some reason, or the mood. A bit like Harry Nilsson?s song One. I love that song, but kind of feel the same way about it, almost exactly crazy mood. Harry probably seriously copied Paul who knows I have to say, I don?t see how someone could not like Penny Lane.. turn it on, you?re in pop heaven, what are you worried about : And I agree about No More Lonely Nights for sure, and everything else basically from that Give My Regards period/album.. giving almost an orchestral feeling to everything. a little too much IMO. And I've said it before and don't feel good about piling on, but I?m on the corner with Boycie this time regarding So Bad. But any good artist will try different things, I'll give him that plenty of people bought it. monetarily and figuratively. :
