Pure McCartney
-
From the website "McCartney curated career-spanning compilation out 10th June. As a songwriter Paul has never stood still, dipping his toe in countless genres and styles. 'Pure McCartney' is testament to that fact. From the songwriting masterclass of 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and adventurous, three-songs-in-one of 'Band On The Run' to the irresistible groove of 'Say Say Say' and ahead-of-its-time electronica of 'Temporary Secretary', described by NME when compiling a list of the greatest ever songs as ?not so much ahead of its time, but out of it altogether?, 'Pure McCartney' charts the unstoppable adventures of McCartney's unique and eclectic songwriting talents and shines a light on his post-Beatles artistic achievements." Wow I for one am pretty excited. It comes out the day after my birthday too! I really like that's it's put together by Paul. Neat album artwork too. Thoughts?

Been waiting a long time for something like this. Staggering compilation of songs. Not quite getting why there are no Flowers In The Dirt songs, but I doubt they'll be missed when listening to this collection.
-
I was guessing no Flowers in The Dirt or Off The Ground as they haven't been released as the "Remasterd Compilations" yet?
-
That's my take on it, too. Still, though, Back To The Egg, London Town and Flaming Pie weren't remastered either, but songs from those albums are on Pure McCartney.

from the home page: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/67-tracks-of-pure-mccartney "Me and my team came up with the idea of putting together a collection of my recordings with nothing else in mind other than having something fun to listen to," Paul says of this project. "Maybe it's to be enjoyed on a long car journey or an evening at home or at a party with friends? So we got our heads together and came up with these diverse playlists from various periods of my long and winding career.?

Ironically this set requires you to pack your Driving Rain cd for those long journeys beyond 4.5 hours

' nothing else in mind' sums up this compilation nicely.
-
This collection is going to stiff...badly. Ad-hoc choices and pointless. If it was intended to represent all his albums, it fails and insofar as offering rare material it fails. Surely the remasters is intended to reintroduce his output, but MPL can't even do THAT right.
-
Didn't Paul say that he couldn't stand to listen to Bip Bop? I wonder why he changed his mind.

I suspect he had zilch to do with this. I suspect an anonymous grey suit shoved a song list under his nose which Paul duly signed off, then waved the grey suit away. Pure McCartney. Pure Business.

You could have made your own compile, to your liking.

I agree with this. He has "people" to do almost everything for him. He is a big corporation. He may have said a few things about the songs but for the most part...not much.

He'll read some background, then be trotted out for a few interviews. That's how it works, right Oobu?

Yep. I believe that to be true. Who thinks he gathers all the "goodies" in the Deluxe Boxsets? His people do. Paul doesn't put it together. I wonder what Paul's favorites would actually be IF he did put together a 67 song set. (of his solo work)
-
I would guess that Paul was very hands-on regarding this and all of his projects. He's been criticized by some as being a control freak, so I'm of the opinion he's very interested and heavily invested in every project that helps shape his legacy.

When remasters, reissues and compilations are planned for artists of Paul McCartney's level, outdoing the bootleggers should always be Job 1.
