Pure McCartney

Travis:
I would guess that Paul was very hands-on regarding this and all of his projects. He's been criticized by some as being a control freak, so I'm of the opinion he's very interested and heavily invested in every project that helps shape his legacy.
The only way he "shapes his legacy" is by his masterful use of the electronic and print media.

When remasters, reissues and compilations are planned for artists of Paul McCartney's level, outdoing the bootleggers should always be Job 1.
And what say you on that matter thus far? Like me, do I hear the word FAIL?

From the perspective of a super-fan, such as moi: Not exactly a swing-and-a-miss, but the glaring omissions are hard to ignore. From the perspective of the uninitiated: holy geepers!!! McCartney has made some badass records over the years that I was totally unaware of!!!

Been waiting a long time for something like this. Staggering compilation of songs.
You could have made your own compile, to your liking.
Yep - i never listen to greatest hits or official compilations, i burn my own (though i'll prob buy this eventually, if it's reduced.. or comes with a dvd). Doesn't everyone make their own compilations? Either those of us old enough to remember mix tapes, down to the last 10 years of burning your own cd. I have my own made 3 cd (so 240 min!) "Paul faves" that are in my bfs car that get played all the time, esp disc 1. Maybe i should get mine released, i prob put more thought into the tracklist and the artwork than "Pure McCartney"

But having said that if it forces the general public to be more aware that he did actually do more than the beatles and band on the run, that can only be a good thing

I just noticed Hope For The Future is followed by Junk. Clever...or somebody at MPL has a sense of humour. Either way, it's apt.

I'm really excited about this album. There's not a skip on it, for me! Fantastic! Hope we hear some of these at the show!! Hope he sells it at his shows...it will be a great album for those mainly BeaTles fans...I'll bet they'll be really excited to hear some songs they've never heard before

He never sells any of his cds at the shows. (always puzzled me)

Me too! Hope he makes the exception on this one! I buy a cd at almost every concert, and discovered a lot of new music from the artist I already liked!

What's a devoted fan to do who already has all of these songs? Just buy it. That's what he does.

Aside from 'Hope For The Future', it would have been nice for it to include some other non-album tracks which are hardly available other than from HTF promo CD's. Example: 'I Want To Come Home', a beautiful song that also made it to the set list in 2009 / 2010. Has anyone else noticed that the picture sleeve is very similar to Ringo's recent 'Photograph: Very Best Of' CD?

This set isn't intended for the hard-core fan who already has all the album's. It's intended for the casual record buying public. There are only 3 songs on the list I would drop. Waterfalls, bip bop and good times coming. I would replace them with my brave face c'mon people and hope of deliverance. Before the wails of you can't get rid of waterfalls we love it start let me explain. I just don't like it. It's a nice enough melody but too slow I don't like the keyboards would rather have an orchestra I don't like the electric piano it sounds dated. And I'm not sure about the lyrics. Other than that it's alright. I would love him to re record it with a better arrangement and lyric. I wish he would do a compilation of all his non album tracks and think again about cold cuts

This tracklist is so... Weird. The album choices are weird, and the order just seems random. You can really see his favorites - I count 8 different Flaming Pie tracks, majority of the album, yet absolutely nothing from Driving Rain or FITD. Only one song from Off the Ground, and it's... 'Winedark Open Sea'. Might have been the least likely song to appear in a compilation IMO. Hope of Deliverance is obvious, title track, Get out of My Way, C'mon People, Looking for Changes all makea lot more sense. English Tea is such a random choice as well, also Too Much Rain. Lack of C Moon is very surprising, seeing how Paul likes to play it on every soundcheck ever. 'New' missing from the 2CD version is surprising too. I don't need this compilation, but if it's indeed compiled by Paul, there's some fascinating insight there on what he considers his best songs. (and maybe, which ones are more likely to be played live soon).
