Fred and Adele. Stars on the stage from circa 1917. Adele (the star) got married and left brother Fred Astaire to begin his solo career. And he WAS a singer. In fact Porter, Gershwins, Arlen, Berlin wrote songs EXPRESSLY for Fred. Oh...and he could dance a little, too.

I don't think there's any doubt that Wings cost Paul in terms of both sales and reputation. The massive drag factor of hangers-on like Denny Lame, coupled with the initial billing as "Paul McCartney & Wings" doomed the project to embarrassment from the start. Wings may have been good cover for Paul in a personal sense, but I have no doubt he regrets not trading under his own name during the 70s.
The chart positions for the 7 Wings albums were 11,5,1,1,2,4,6. I agree the critics have slated him a lot, but in terms of sales and public love Wings couldn't have done much better.

No, this was it: (it's still up there) Fred and Adele. _________________

I love Fred Astaire's singing, even more than his dancing, maybe. Remember his lovely lilt in his number from "Funny Face" with Audrey Hepburn (sigh).

The 70's were made for rock bands. Those times were very competitive and I think that good rock was made by bands.

it something to ponder why Paul wanted a "band" can see the benefit of having the same like minded people working together a band gives

Paul loved being in a band and was gutted when The Beatles broke up. It was only natural for him to want to form his own band.

If there had been no Wings, there'd never have been Rat Faced and Rat****.
