And now the time is near....

Aah Plastic I like that you think we are like family. I know this a totally different topic, but very sad and disappointed to see no special programming (radio or tv) for Paul's 70th Birthday.

Lisa I have sent in my alternative Macca selection for Steve Wright's golden oldies half hour nonsense.....so that's another snub probably! It makes my blood boil that nothing is happening.....they'll stick up BOTR and JET plus some Beatle stuff and then move on. No recognition or instruction/education for the sheep!

Makes me really cross because of all the programming they did for Dylan. Even Cliff (fingers down throat) Richard got some special recognition on Radio 2 for his 70th.
-
They'll play some old stuff at 3 am probably.....that's when they always play his new single releases!

On Sunday WXRT radio in Chicago will dedicate the 2 hour Breakfast with the Beatles show to our Birthday Boy! I believe you can listen to it on the internet if you like. It's on at 8am-10am CST.

Thanks Lynda. Just can't believe nothing on UK programming unless I'm missing it all!

I just read that Absolute Classic Radio in the UK is celebrating Paul's 7oth next week by playing 70 Macca songs (not in a row, spaced out). Anyway people are supposed to tweet their choices or call in or email. So call in, people! Also, Time magazine just released a thick special issue all about Paul for his 70th. I hope people buy it and show that his fans are interested in coverage about him. I've also read of other gatherings: Liverpool is doing a few things. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a card for paul that people are signing. There are some concerts of Paul's music going on in several places to honor his birthday. And I'm hoping that more publications will write stories about him in the next few days until June 18. But unlike Dylan for his 70th who kept a low profile and got a lot of stories about his 70th, Paul has been very much in the public eye in recent years (too much so, many of us think). And he's been honored over and over again in recent years (the Gershwin Honor, the Kennedy Center, and just recently at the Grammy's and at the Hollywood Walk of Fame thing) so he hasn't exactly been ignored in recent years and there have been lots and lots of stories about him in the last 2 years. Maybe publications feel there is not much new to say. Mostly I hope he has a nice big party to distract him from all the less than pleasant things some people have been saying in the UK. Not a very nice birthday present to have all this sniping, is it? Hope he gets a good party surrounded by people who care about him.

Thanks Michelley, I'll tune into Absolute Radio. I've ordered the Time magazine. I have seen a few things, like the concert at the Cavern Club. I suppose I was half hoping/expecting a Beeb documentary. A bit more in the UK really.

Oops sorry mine & Michelley's posts have come in triplicate. Can a mod delete out the extras. Ta!

My hubby bought me the Time Magazine a couple of days ago. Some great pictures and a pretty good summary of Paul's life. I don't know if it was mentioned elsewhere, but USA Today newspaper had a big front page article yesterday about The Beatles turning 50. No new info really but some nice insight on why their legacy endures.

And so it continues...... here are a couple of readers letters from today's Sun. "I loved the jubilee concert but please, cancel the invitation for Sir Paul McCartney to close the opening ceremony at the Olympics. He may have been ok in his time but his time is now up and I don't want to see another cringe-worthy performance with the world watching" "I was left stunned by Sir Paul McCartney's performance at the jubilee concert. I actually thought he was seriously ill, or had taken some sort of medication. he was just rambling. it was very sad"
I'm sorry but that first quote is being nasty. "He may have been ok in his time..." Who gets paid to write this sort of stuff. Ignorant t**t.
no one got paid, its on the readers letters page, much worse has been said on here.
Based on some of the ridiculous comments made in the Telegraph, the day after Ocean's Kingdom premiered in NYC... it looks to me that many readers just make up stuff for the negative affect. When I commented on how many people actually saw the ballet, since it was in NYC only the night or two before, not another peep was heard!! And there were such great reviews from the people who were actually at the Ocean's Kingdom performance, too! People can be so nasty.... Just read some random You Tube comments... On any person... Not just Paul. There must be a lot of "perfect" people making such comments. I wonder why they're not chosen to get up and sing instead?!

Very Very disappointing. I know Michelley has listed his recent achievements but virtually all have been stateside. At the end of the day, whether your a fan of Macca or not, he IS the most successful singer/songwriter the world has ever seen and a musical legend than nobody can surpass. How his home country can't celebrate his 70th birthday with atleast a tv programme about his life and achievments is pretty disgusting.
