Aah Plastic I like that you think we are like family. I know this a totally different topic, but very sad and disappointed to see no special programming (radio or tv) for Paul's 70th Birthday.
Very Very disappointing. I know Michelley has listed his recent achievements but virtually all have been stateside. At the end of the day, whether your a fan of Macca or not, he IS the most successful singer/songwriter the world has ever seen and a musical legend than nobody can surpass. How his home country can't celebrate his 70th birthday with atleast a tv programme about his life and achievments is pretty disgusting.
Couldn't agree more, scanned next weeks TV mag, and unless i'm missing the obvious I saw nothing....amazing. Any 2 bit last a year if their lucky celeb gets pages of mags dedicated to them & more tv hours than you can shake a stick at........what does Sir Macca get....not a lot it seems ??

And so it continues...... here are a couple of readers letters from today's Sun. "I loved the jubilee concert but please, cancel the invitation for Sir Paul McCartney to close the opening ceremony at the Olympics. He may have been ok in his time but his time is now up and I don't want to see another cringe-worthy performance with the world watching" "I was left stunned by Sir Paul McCartney's performance at the jubilee concert. I actually thought he was seriously ill, or had taken some sort of medication. he was just rambling. it was very sad"
I'm sorry but that first quote is being nasty. "He may have been ok in his time..." Who gets paid to write this sort of stuff. Ignorant t**t.
no one got paid, its on the readers letters page, much worse has been said on here.
Based on some of the ridiculous comments made in the Telegraph, the day after Ocean's Kingdom premiered in NYC... it looks to me that many readers just make up stuff for the negative affect. When I commented on how many people actually saw the ballet, since it was in NYC only the night or two before, not another peep was heard!! And there were such great reviews from the people who were actually at the Ocean's Kingdom performance, too! People can be so nasty.... Just read some random You Tube comments... On any person... Not just Paul. There must be a lot of "perfect" people making such comments. I wonder why they're not chosen to get up and sing instead?!
the positives we should take out of this are for every shitty comment there are more people supporting the most successful artist in the history of music, no one is spared when it comes to criticism, even The Beatles got slaughtered for Magical Mystery Tour, its now deemed as a work of art in many quarters much the same way as Ram is being heralded these days. Paul could have written "Imagine" and he would still have got kicked in the face. I know we've been over this countless times, but his former Beatle buddies have got a lot to answer for, mud sticks, in Paul's case the shit said back then stuck all through his career. The history books don't lie, Paul is the most successful songwriter in the history of music, you don't get that accolade by doing bed ins or following some religious sect who happen to be in vogue, you get there by hard work and graft, Paul has nothing to prove to anyone, the millions who bought his records and continue to turn up for his concerts prove he still has a massive following throughout the world. As fans we sometimes say things which may not go down well with other fans, Personally i didn't like KOTB, that's not a dig at Macca, i just don't like that type of music, i'm not a big fan of Run Devil Run either, I prefer McCartney originals, always have always will, that's the great thing about the net, we can voice our likes, dislikes and concerns with other fans, you're opinions mean more to me than people who write in newspapers, mags or publish a book slagging off McCartney, they do it knowing it will give them 15 minutes of fame, that for me shows you how massive McCartney is, those clowns slag him off yet are quite happy to reap the rewards, bunch of frigging hypocrites if you ask me.

The more I think about it, the more unbelievable it is. I really can't get my head around his own coutnry not celebrating his 70th. I would have thought the BBC would have atleast done something on his career. I mean maybe something might be done but it doesn't look likely. I seem to remember Ringo go on a few British programmes when he turned 70.

Wasn't there even a few programs for John's 70th? : : I guess you need Yoko as a agent...OH NO!

Yes, but there are several reasons why John's 70th got extra attention. (1) His birthday is a date many fans have used to memorialize him. They don't want to celebrate him on the day of his murder so they do so on the day of his birth. (2) Yoko timed the re-release of his entire solo catalog to his 70th birthday, thus, giving newspapers and magazines new product to write about linked directly to the birthday, since that was the release date. There was also a documentary about Lennon in NYC that was also linked directly to his birthday. It's common for media companies to promote new product on a deceased celebrity's birthday.

Just got this repsonse from Radio 2, hope I'm able to post this here: We have done a lot with Sir Paul in the past and realistically we can?t mark everyone?s birthdays. Mick Fleetwood, Brian Wilson, Ronnie Wood, Charlie Watts ? all 70 and that?s just June..Barbra Streisand earlier in the year. The list goes on though will be marking Paul?s birthday in small ways nearer the time. Regards What does everyone else feel about this, this was my reply 'Thanks for the reply. I understand it?s difficult to mark ?everyone?s? birthday especially when so many turn 70 this year. But Paul McCartney is slightly special don?t you think? One half of our greatest songwriting duo? I do realise Radio 2 have done quite a bit with Paul in the past, Electric Proms, Chaos at Abbey Rd, the recent Jamie Cullum interview. I was just expecting (like many McCartney fans) a little bit of a celebration on this his landmark birthday. Ram his second solo album has just been remastered and would be a great feature on a Sounds of the Seventies with Johnnie Walker' I suspect he didn?t want to do anything with us. I?m sure the question was asked! I think Paul is more than 'slightly special and more than one half of a songwriting duo. But I was just trying to repsond in a calm fashion!!

An article about Paul for his 70th just went live in the Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopfeatures/9329588/Sir-Paul-McCartney-interview-The-Queen-is-fabulous-Ive-got-a-lot-of-time-for-her.html It's a nice piece that mentions how his solo work in recent years has received "universal praise." Warning: The Telegraph commenters routinely attack Paul. Their comments about him are ALWAYS vicious. But the article itself is good. (Doesn't mention Paul's vocal problems at the jubilee, though I'm sure the comments will.)

I would have let them have it! Your response is nice tho and to the point, as you say in a calm fashion. But I'm sorry Paul McCartney is THE musical legend of the last 100 years so to not mark this milestone is just rediculous.

for those of a nervous dissposition...please dont read the comments!. i actually think that about half the people in the uk who actually seriously know who mccartney is actually hate his guts....very sad...and i can tell you from my own experiance that these kind of obnoxious, ill informed comments are not exclusive to readers comments on news sites.....our paul has a serious reputation problem in the UK with the mindless majority....no wonder he fawns over americans so much.however over the top false and sycophantic many of them are.at least they treat him with respect in general.

I didn't think the comments were too bad on the Telegraph article. Seen a lot worse. One or two very complimentary.

what like....... Paul your are such a phony pr**k and your singing voice is shot. Loved loved loved the original Beatles and always will but that's History now and Paul is pathetic. Do me a favour and retire. or What an arrogant prick McCartney is! Why doesn't he just do the world a favour and shut up. Anything will do for this publicity seeking egotist. Hasn't anyone but be noticed that since the Beatles split he has failed to produce anything of any worth, the exception being Live and Let Die. Coincidence or perhaps John Lennon was to charitable in his allowing him any accreditation on songs he didn't write. I mean look at it this way George Harrison continued to write great music after the Beatles split. John Lennon likewise. But what a load of crap McCartney has served up; while shamelessly trying to have Beatles song re-attributed as McCartney Lennon. What a tosser!!! or Any chance of the wretched man running away to the jungle with Stephen Fry? Please! SOUND PRETTY HARSH TO THESE EARS!

I told you, the Telegraph commenters are ALWAYS awful. And not just about Paul. They are routinely vicious. They are kind of like the commenters on the Fox News site -- a lot of right-wing nut jobs who don't like Paul for his liberal views. I mean that one guy who called Paul a "prick" turns out he was mad about Paul's opposition to killing seals in Canada. That tells you all you need to know! Actually I think there are a lot of very positive comments on the thread. Go there and support them!! Hit "recommend" on the good comments.

I've recommended a few, would be good if few of us could respond on there. There is a guy on Paul's youtube videos who spouts the nastiest stuff, I wonder if it's the guy calling Paul a 'prick'!!

It?s nice to think about that for a second. And then completely rule it out.?
