And now the time is near....

I say he can still tour but shouldn't do these one off shows. He should also see a good vocal coach so he can learn to use what he has got better. He sings better with his Kisses on the Bottom style voice than when he tries to realy go for it, maybe it would be better to put together an all new show where the pace is slower and he sings different versions of his songs, so they are less vocally challening?
-
Yeah if he wants to carry on touring, which he obvously does, he sould consider getting someone in to help train his voice. There's no shame in it!
-
I don't think he is too old to perform if we and the whole world accepted this is what happens to your voice as you age. But unfortunately we can't. We also worry/listen too much about what other people think. I am particuarly guilty of that, comments on twitter, comments on newspaper articles etc etc. Thing was we were mostly positive about his performance last night then we go and read all the social media stuff out there and our hearts sink.

All too true i'm afraid.

As I recall, the comments on Twitter and Facebook after Paul's X Factor performance were even more nasty than I've seen today about the jubilee. And that didn't stop Paul from going on SNL, where he also sang very roughly and generated some nasty comments and a story or two about "has Paul lost his voice?" And that didn't stop him from going on the Grammy's where he was good but not great. He needs to give up these TV performances entirely. Because none of them have really worked out for him. And now, with the Olympics ahead, there's going to be a month of nasty comments about him singing at the opening ceremonies, leading up to the performance. And afterward, there will be more nasty comments unless he sounds like he's 30 years old again -- which is never going to happen. I for one am dreading it. And I do fear he's damaging his own legacy. Some of the comments are just painful to read.
-
I'm afraid that I agree with this. At a minimum, Paul needs to slow way down and save his voice for big events. I hate to think of never seeing him perform live again, but I also don't want him to go out as an embarrassment and an Oldies act.
-
I already posted this on the jubilee thread. "I thought Paul set was ok, he struggled a bit on MMT at first, then pulled it together, as much as I love Let it Be, he never done himself justice on the song and it should be dropped, finishing his set with Ob La Di Ob La Da was imo a good way to end the show, all in all considering his age i'll give Paul pass marks, my one concern is, I hope Paul knows when its time to stop doing these turn up and do a few songs bashes, they don't give his vocals time to warm up, as someone mentioned, when you type his name on you tube all you get are his cringe worthy performances, this is definitely not the sort of legacy I want Paul to be remembered for" adding to this.. I think it was young Chris (not you Plastic) who mentioned Paul should rework some of his classics to suit his voice, this maybe the way to go, in-fact it is something he should seriously be thinking about. this is slightly off topic.. We've all read about Paul not being happy about the new pop/rock album, could it be he is not happy about his vocals? the reason for asking this is, when did Paul ever bother about what others thought when it came to releasing a album? for me the recklessness in a lot of Paul's albums puts him a cut above the rest. When i say recklessness, i mean it in a good way, think McCartney & Ram both are classic albums with the Paul (i'm doing it my way) attitude.

its funny because i have been getting slaughtered on this site for many a year for offering this opinion [although not by the author of this thread it must be said]. one poster of course takes the whole thing as a huge insult, but of course 'some people never know'. we speak our minds because we care about paul and his legacy is important to us fans who have grown up with his work. the bottom line is that our man cant sing good anymore [live].nothing to do with 'colds' or 'sound mixes' or any other excuse that gets banded around. someone needs to tell him because in my view he has closed his ears ..just think about what a perfectionist he used to be!,if the paul mccartney of the mid 1970s heard himself these days he would be shocked. of course part of mccartneys trouble is just how pitch perfect he sounded when he originally sung the songs he routinely murders on stage these days. time to hang up the tourist beatle bass paul. enjoy the rest of your life paul safe in the knowledge that you are the greatest artist that has ever lived with no exceptions..you have nothing left to prove but there is still plenty to lose.

I actually cried.

You certainly started getting vocal about his poor vocals before the rest of us and before they were anywhere near as bad as they are now. I can only imagine what you think when you hear performances like last night!
-
It is so obvious that all are comments in this thread and others re. Paul's performances are out of our love for Paul. I'm glad to see people are realizing that.

i think one of the things that attracted me to mccartneys music all those years ago was the amazing pitch perfect pipes along with the amazing melodies. heck he can still write brilliant songs,he just needs to get his focus back..i hope one of his kids has a quiet word in his shell like about legacy before one of these scratchy vocal live appearances define him with a generation.

dont count yer chickens. there is a whole army accross the pond that will gladly praise his voice no matter what..these types are obviously not exclusive to this forum as i have to take it as FACT that mccartney in real life surrounds himself with too many sycophants. how else can you possibly explain the reappearance of 'maybe im amazed' in his set list....mccartney actually believes he still got the ability to sing it and no one is telling him otherwise. its a scary thought that someone so brilliant as paul can be so far off the mark with his judgment.

Is it true he had a cold though?
-
It's a sad day but I have to agree. He did nail All My Loving but parts of let it be and live and let die weren't good! The problem is his vocals were AMAZING back in the day and a lot of his songs are very hard to sing so I think that doesn't help. He has nothing to prove, the greatest singer/songwriter the world has ever seen, and I don't want him to give the ignorant twats out there any more ammunition. He will never lose his songwriting genius, so write as much as possible while he can still record well. A nice new double album. The world will realise just how good he is, the best, but it may be a long way off yet.

As Kestrel mentioned elsewhere, if he had a cold he's had it for a long time.

Or at least change the song choices to ones he can handle.
