I would be shocked if Denny Laine does not get royalties for Mull of Kintyre. He co wrote it.
Prepare yourself to be shocked as Denny sold his publishing rights for the song to Paul many years ago. Even back in 2001 when 'Wingspan' was released, the publishing for 'Mull Of KIntyre' was credited solely to MPL Communications Ltd.
Wow. WOW!
Amazing how desperation can make a man make such a huge business blunder.
When people are broke, they sell off assets. Some people pawn old jewelry, songwriters sell off publishing rights. I'm sure it seemed like the reasonable alternative at the time, but I wouldn't be surprised if Denny felt a bit resentful that he had to do it.

I vaguely recall Paul talking about this issue and mentioning the sum of £40,000. If true, that's a lot of money for someone like Denny who may have been struggling financially at the time.

Unfortunately, that's not a lot of money. Not for a contribution to that song. That's a pimple on a backside. Should've got a hell of a lot more. It is a brilliant song. If many had co-written that song, they'd be on their way to be set up for life.

Think I've read that some have lived off of a Christmas song they wrote fifty years earlier. It became a staple and it's a lot of money in radio play for example. Especially the world over... I've also heard people say that writing "Yesterday" is enough for Paul McCartney to become very rich. He could have lived off that song since 1965. I don't know if it's true. I'm a wreck on economy. :

Theoretically, yes. But I have read that, like most unknowns in the 50s and 60s, John and Paul signed a pretty bad deal for royalties, one that could not be renegotiated until after they pass away. Remember, John also got the same royalty payments as Paul, since Yesterday was Lennon-McCartney. Ironically, I think Lennon's estate gets a higher royalty now for Yesterday than Paul does, since Lennon's estate was able to renegotiate a higher royalty after he died.

Brian Epstein dropped the ball on that one; that's for sure.

Yeah! yeah! yeah! there are indications that this world is not supposed to be perfect. What that means... depending on individual needs maybe, except All You Need Is Cash by The Rutles!

And Johnny Cash.

I find it strange that he is so cheap with money, he is so generous with his music. Weren't the rights to stuff tied up in something? Because he went his own way instead of with the other three after The Beatles. Think I've read that the Linda McCartney songwriting credits early on partly was because thay actually needed the money. Whatever Paul earned it ended up being frozen, he couldn't get to it.
Paul grew up in tough economic times during WW2 & post war. I understand completely why people can be frugal. On the other hand if you have never experienced poverty you haven't lived. What irks me is that many of the middle class these days are oblivious when it comes to poverty & struggling to put food on the table for their family.

Well, I try to keep it at a distance. I don't know what he is doing with his money, or how much money he has for that matter. It's probably none of my business. This is stuff going on behind the scenes. What Paul and I share is his music. I have to pay some money to listen to it. well, in these days of the internet I can get it for free... but i think it is well worth it, I collect records. There are many who are rich. What distinguishes McCartney from the crowd, for my part, is that I'm a fan of his music.
