so, I've been listening to Hey Diddle (both the album and the Scotland versions) and there is a part which I hear like (and all of the lyrics sites seem to agree with me) "I wouldn't make her, Her wouldn't table." which doesn't make any bit of sense does anyone have any idea what this means ? (or if anyone thinks that lyrics are different ?) thanks in advance

I've always loved this song... like the fiddle : ) and banging on other assorted items! I wouldn't make her, her wooden table I always had the impression Linda wanted a wooden table for some reason?

I think you're right! There is no way he sings what that lyric site said! I think it's: I wouldn't make her Her wooden table I wouldn't care It's a play on words--"wooden" & "wouldn't" that he & John were so famous for ("This One"/"The Swan") Remember how Paul was always making stuff like a couch out of wooden crates? (at the farm in Scotland)

Love this. Linda's harmonies on the wooden table part are so good.

Well with other examples of cockney slang, such as Dustbin Lid, Put it there if it weighs a ton, Dickey Bird, etc, I'm not so quick to write off lyrics that I don't really get right off the bat...Not saying this is another example of that...but I never knew the examples I threw out there were and I felt silly after finding out there is something legitimate to their meaning (although Dustbin Lid is still a tough one to swallow...LOL)

And let's not forget "In eggshell seas" / "In excelsis"!

so it is just a use of the similarity in sound between "wouldn't" and "wooden" ? Fair enough, however, the question remains. What does "I wouldn't make her wooden table" mean ? (I think that the double "her"s are there to help with the melody.) At first, I had thought this was an idiom like "to make someone's table" but this doesn't seem to be the case.

My guess is it's just playing around with the words, just supposed to be lighthearted despite the appearance of negativity, like that children's song where you sing, "I don't know why she swallowed the fly / Perhaps she'll die," not to mention "Down will come baby, cradle, and all." Terribly frightening if you think about them!

Also, in the Scotland Rehearsal version

Paul forgets to do that part. Linda reminds him (around 2.13) by saying something. I hear that something as "Wouldn't she make you a wooden table?" but I am not not sure I am however, sure that she's not telling him the lyrics, but something diffrent and also related. (I think it's in the question form.)

That's how I hear it After all, Paul was quite the handyman in those days! There's that photo of him fixing the hole on the roof... maybe the rain was getting in
