Will Sir Paul McCartney perform at Concert for Diana?
-
I just went online today and luckily scored a single ticket to the Concert for Diana on July 1, at Wembley Stadium. I did so as I heard from a friend in radio in Toronto that Sir Paul McCartney might be added to the bill. I am in the United Kingdom at that time anyways for a vacation so I figured I would try and jump at the opportunity to see McCartney perform with the likes of Sir Elton John as well as many others. Does anybody have any other information about McCartney being added to the lineup for this event? Tim From http://www.exposay.com/princes-william-and-harry-want-paul-mccartney-beyonc-and-justin-timberlake-for-diana-tribute/v/9867/ Princes William And Harry Want Paul McCartney, Beyoncé And Justin Timberlake For Diana Tribute April 4, 2007 - Princes William and Harry want Sir Paul McCartney, Beyoncé Knowles and Justin Timberlake to join the line-up for their Diana tribute concert. The princes are desperate to convince the world's biggest music stars totake part in the event - to mark the 10th anniversary of their mother'sdeath. They are keen for The Beatles' legend to lead a "supergroup" who wouldperform the Fab Four's greatest hits. A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "The princes know they needto get artists who are loved around the world, but particularly in America,to ensure it's a truly worldwide event no one will forget. They would loveit to be the biggest since Live 8 or Live Aid. "They really want Justin and Beyoncé to ensure there's massive coverage inthe U.S. Paul would be the icing on the cake. He met Diana many times and is a living legend. He has been approached and is in talks. He could dosomething special, like lead a supergroup, just as he did with Bono to kickoff Live 8." The princes have already invited a host of musical stars to appear at thissummer's Concert For Diana, including Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, KanyeWest, James Blunt, Meatloaf, Bryan Adams, Pharrell Williams, Orson, JossStone, Take That and Keane. Dire Straits - one of the Diana's favorite bands - and the Spice Girls arealso being urged to perform. The concert will take place at the new Wembley Stadium on July 1 - whichwould have been Diana's 46th birthday. Tickets for the event sold out within 20 minutes last December. Money raisedfrom the event will go to several charities, including the Diana MemorialFund.

Congratulations on securing the ticket. Paul is not listed amongst the performers on the Official concert web-site: http://www.concertfordiana.com/performers/index.asp As publicity and donations are the name of the game I personally do not think that a surprise appearance is likely. Martin

Maybe it'll be a surprise. He's certainly hotter than ever these days. -a

Paul is Paul. Whatever he does has himself as the headliner. I had read somewhere that he didn't want to share top billing with Elton John, and since EJ was a close friend of the Princess, Paul graciously bowed out.

Wix Wickens will be there??????!!!!!

I think this is why Wix wasn't in NY for the secret show there. He's probably musical director for the "house band" that supports all the performers so will be on-stage most of the event. It a role he's taken for many tours he's worked on and takes that title when touring with Paul as well. That's probably why he's tied up so long in advance, he's having to arrange and rehearse the sets for each of the artists in turn. If so then he may not be at the LA gig either. Martin

This is why I hope Paul might opt for the element of surprise... ...sure, he'd be upstaging Elton, but hey... Paul is the king. -a

I think Paul's close relationship with the Queen (of England more than Elton!) might help persuade him! Well, I'm hoping!

I guess it is obvious to everyone that Paul McCartney did not perform at the Concert for Diana. I still enjoyed parts of the event, even if Sir Paul wasn't there. Since McCartney played a club gig in London on Thursday what are the odds that he performs at Live Earth now? I scored a ticket for Live Earth on Wednesday so I'm hopeful for a second time that Sir Paul McCartney makes a surprise performance. Tim
