I have always wondered if Paul McCartney's ever helped kids with Autism because I have a mild form of it called "Asperger's Syndrome." Oh well, Just wondering.

Well here is an article from the mid 1980's which might be of interest and I hope that Paul's music can be of some benefit for you.

        Club Sandwich #47/48:

Two days after its release on 5th November last, All the Best became significant as well as hugely popular. In a highly imaginative move, Paul and EMI agreed to give 12 1/2 pence each to the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Centre for every copy of AW The Best sold on 7th November, the first Saturday it was on sale. Happily, 60,000 copies were sold that day, so the Centre benefited to the tune of £15,000. The Centre is in London's Kentish Town and was founded in 1974 by Doctors Paul Nordoff and Clive Robbins, both Americans. Dr. Nordoff unfortunately died the following year, but the Centre's reputation and influence have grown steadily since, so that therapists bearing the City University's Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Diploma teach in schools both in Britain and abroad and in various London hospitals. The aim of the Centre is to treat children with all kinds of handicap through the medium of music and to train musicians to become music therapists. Up to ten post-graduates per year study to obtain the diploma and the record industry has long been active in fund-raising. The Complete Works promotions agency arranges functions for the Centre on an expenses-only basis. Mike McCraith of the agency told me more. "We make up programmes for various functions, for instance banger racing at Wimbledon Stadium last Sunday (27th March), which raised £30,000. It was organized by Dave Dee, who does a hell of a lot of work for the Centre. I'm on the committee of the inaugural Music Therapy May Day Golf Classic at Silvermere in Surrey and the record industry's June lunch has been going for eleven or twelve years. The lunch is the main fundraiser: it usually raises about £100,000". As Bob Geldofsaid after Live Aid, it's not enough to make one grand gesture: the effort must be sustained. So we are delighted to report that Paul's contribution with All The Best inaugurated Record Retailing Day, an annual event to be, marked by similar donations. Millions find Paul McCartney's music positive and uplifting, so it is fitting to find him promoting the nourishing properties of music through the Nordoff-Robbins Centre as well. As our picture shows, he certainly enjoyed his meeting with three year-old Ruby Hodin-Brown, a patient at the Centre.

Very nice of Paul. I don't know much about Asperger's syndrome, although I have been reading about it lately. MJBeatle I hope you are doing well.

The other week I found a video about the 'Einstein - Autism Connection.' It is very interesting:

From what I have learned about Asperger's, is that although it can be difficult in some ways, it can also be a gift. Lots of very intelligent and famous people had a form of autism. Mozart is one of them. Look it up and there is a list of great people throughout history who had this gift. Wishing everyone Love and Happiness.

I have Asperger's too! But I think he does a lot for charity and donates for good causes.

Forget team Edward and team Jacob. Team MACCA is where it's at.

Hi guys, hope all's well. I remember seeing a film on TV back in the 1980s with Paul visiting the Nordoff-Robins Centre and playing guitar with some of the kids. He talked during the film about how the power of music and how it helped connect with the children. I haven't seen the film since, but I remember how committed Paul was to the cause and raising awareness. He also topped the bill at Knebworth in 1990 at a all-star concert in aid of the Nordoff-Robins Centre. Other acts on the bill included Genesis, Pink Floyd, Tears for Fears, Eric Clapton, etc (you can still get the gig on DVD). So Paul's support for the charity lasted several years.

Wembley 1990; Run Devil Run listening party (Leicester Square, London) 1999; Sheffield 2003; Liverpool 2003; Sir George Martin In Conversation, London 2010; Hyde Park 2010
!!New Crowded House album "Intriguer" out June 2010 !!

One of my best friends has a son with Asperger's syndrome. He is a young adult, and lives with her in Nova Scotia. He is a computer whiz but he had a very hard time in school, from the lack of social ability. Fortunately, my friend is a loving mother, and found a lovely ground floor apartment for them to live in. She does freelance computer work and psychic readings and healings in person and over the phone, just about anything she can, to be able to be there for him. That and no one will hire her for a programming job because she got her degree later on in life and she's experienced a lot of age discrimination. I saw the girl on America's Top Model and I was amazed at how graceful she was in the face of all the nasty comments on entertainment pages and such. And gorgeous, too. Wish I had that sort of grace, but I get angry for all the people who are treated wrongly in this world because of a handicap. My dad instigated mainstreaming in schools in Massachusetts when he was an administrator there. Each high school student was assigned a handicapped buddy and their job was to take them 'round the school, make sure they could find their classes, carry books if necessary, and have someone to sit with at the lunch table. My buddy was a girl with crutches, I think cerebral palsy, and I carried her books and made friends with her. I'm part deaf and have a few things going on in my head myself, and I have experienced a lot of ribbing for saying "what?" a lot. Or people who think just because I'm not showing something on the outside that I am lazy or a ne'er-do-well. So I really appreciate anything Paul McCartney does for handicapped of any kind. My husband's sister was brain damaged shortly after birth and she's on disability. She works and has friends, a boyfriend, etc. Now her health is deteriorating and we are all worried about her! Wish I could find a cure for things, not that there's anything wrong with handicapped people, but suffering and seeing people put down the handicapped or make fun of them is not my bag. At all. My dad told me there was a little boy at my grade school who was autistic and while he wouldn't talk to people, my dad and the teachers there all saw him go up to trees, hug them, and say, "hello, tree." My dad thought maybe that kid was smarter then the rest of us. And he may be right. I think it's lovely, anyone who gives to support helping the handicapped. Thank you so much. Hugs, ~~Marie Lookin' up poetry to soothe my soul

Someone I love very much has a mild form of autism, Asperger's. A brilliant person. So much fun and just a kind soul. So intelligent and creative I just cannot describe it. Sees the world in such a refreshing way. But I see also has social skills problems, and I see this person struggle. I have a tendency to be a semi-recluse, and love animals more than most people, so I can kinda relate on alot of levels to my friend. Love my friend so much.

Seriously this is going to sound dumb but I wish I was rich and could give money to chairity. I used to have a lot more money that I do now and I used to give to charity but now I don't. Paul is so wonderful with how much he gives. Autism is one of the first charities I would choose too but only if it was a chairity actually doing something to support kids with autism or research on autism but not current"cures" because so far they are all bogus. I don't believe there can be a "cure" although someday there might be medicine which might help with the more debilitating symptoms in some ways.
