The drinking laws came about because of drunk driving....not becasue of the irresponsible drinking habits of young adults....I could drink beer at 18, but not liquor (that was always 21)....plus the legality of it....you were always considered an adult at 21, but you could drink and drive and kill someone and who was to blame? Your parents??? I never understood some of it- Why can you get married but you can't drink alcohol? Why can you be drafted (or join and go to war) and not drink alcohol? The legal age should be THE LEGAL AGE for everything! Historically, there has been a trend toward lower alcohol use, particularly among high school students. This trend apparently began in the 1980's as States were passing minimum age 21 purchase laws. Monthly use of alcohol among high school seniors declined from 72 percent in 1980 to 51 percent in 1993. Drinking five or more drinks in a row on at least one occasion during the past 2 weeks (binge drinking) declined from 41 percent in 1983 to 28 percent in 1993. However, there are signs that this trend may have ended. Recent surveys have shown that the rate of alcohol consumption has been flat during the past few years. Reported binge drinking by seniors had actually increased to 30 percent in 1996 (Johnston, O'Malley, & Bachman, 1996). More babysitting..... non

How sad...I remember the summers when they posted all the Evacuation Routes in the newspaper....and told us they would close the bridges from Cocoa Beach and to the mainland...we were freaked out! TRAPPED on the island!! One night it started to rain hard and I got home late (ops: ops: ) so I crawled on the couch in the family room instead of going upstairs to bed....it rained 9 inches overnight! The pool overflowed and the water came creeping into the family room! I was scared to death to wake them up because I KNEW my mom would have a fit that her carpet was all wet! LOL! So I just dragged the furniture away until it was safe and waited til morning came....at least SOMEONE got sleep!! : ops: We had to go out and bail all of our neighbor's boats out that were sinking in the canal....I can't even IMAGINE what it is like there tonight!! More shots, please!! non
