Tattoo signatures - yay or nay?

Goodness, I hope this isn't true ... I've had Paul's face tattooed onto my thigh & I'm hoping 'some day, some beautiful day' he'll sign my leg ... so I can get it tattooed on xxx

I don't want to come across as stirring up old arguments, and I know that it makes it really special if he actually physically autographs your skin... ...but if his signature "completes" a tattoo that one might have, why not just get it copied on? I mean, his signature is everywhere. I know a lot of people will be thinking I am wrong and it's better to see him in person (I know that's true) but realistically what are the chances of it happening? If you really wanted his sig on your body, you can get it done no problem without him.

That's very true, his signature is everywhere, but personally, the fact that I'll have met a hero of mine, & he'll have signed me, is what has prevented me from getting a 'copy' tattooed on!! Everybody is different & each to their own ... but all of my tattoos *mean* something to me ... they're not just random pictures/ words/ whatever. Well, 3 of them were (I just liked the designs, but I've had them tattooed over!!) I know it's highly unlikely I will actually ever meet Macca, but to have him sign the tattoo & then get THAT tattooed would complete it ... & I really like the thought of being that close to him!! xxx
-
And I know the original question 'yay or nay' is still being asked ... as it's become so 'routine' now, but I have had a giant crush on Jamie Redknapp since I was 11 (I'm not 30) ... & about 8 years ago I had the 'great idea' (!!) to have him sign my wrist or the back of my neck, so I could have it tattooed on. I've not met Jamie since then, but the idea to have an idol of mine 'sign me' for tattooing later has been in my mind for quite some time ... xxx

I think, in my opinion that the reason the signature tattoos became ever so popular because many see it as a chance to "meet" Paul and that actually may be true. If it is indeed true that he doesn't want to sign people anymore (I take it this means "during concerts) I think that is a good thing especially for those who already have his sig. For every other person he signs, the less unique it becomes. I think it was becoming a bit too routine (come on, he started taking up girls two by two...) and I do feel sad for people who wanted it done because it seemed like such an accessible way to meet him (if only for a few seconds).

That's true in my case too ... I'd LOVE to be that close to Paul, to 'meet' him for a few seconds. But, like others who have gotten him to sign either them or a tattoo dedicated to him, it's about having a very special part of Paul with you forever I understand where you're coming from with it being totally un-unique but, from looking on YouTube, it's an amazing time for the fans being called up on stage to meet their idol. I mean, who is gonna get Paul to sign them, to get it tattooed, unless they're HUGE Macca fans?? It's incredible that he's doing this for his fans!!! xxx

That's a point I was trying to avoid actually - I hate tattoos and will never get one, does that make me less of a fan than someone that has his tattoo?

Ok, putting words in my mouth??!! I think so!!! ops: I didn't say you had to have a tattoo to be a massive fan of Pauls, just as I never said 'if you don't have a tattoo, you mustn't like him very much' I'm actually surprised at your take on what I actually said I merely stated that it's important to those of use who DO HAVE tattoos. We obviously feel passionately about Paul, so why not let us 'graffiti ourselves' even more??!! It's our body = our choice. As is it your choice to NOT have a tattoo & get a piece of paper, a book, a cd, etc signed. xxx

I was not putting words in anybody's mouth. Looking at your quote, that is what it looks like. I mustn't be a huge fan of his then.

Oh sweet Moses ... you really are twisting my words to cause controversy!! I meant (which I thought was pretty obvious!!!!!!) ... if you have a tattoo of Macca, you're obviously a huge fan of his so why shouldn't you be allowed get something added to it?! I wasn't saying that ONLY TATTOOED PEOPLE are huge Macca fans ... if I was, that's like saying 'ya, everybody on this board is a mediocre fan, only a handful of people, the tattooed ones, are HUGE fans!!!' Seriously, are you taking the p*ss or are you being serious?? I, in NO WAY, implied that you had to have a tattoo to be a huge fan, or you weren't a huge fan if you weren't tattooed. The two don't go together like ... tattoos & fanatical love for Macca. xxx

Seriously, can anybody else see where I'm coming from with this?? Or did it come across the way CaptainFantastic027 mistook it?? xxx

I know what you meant Clayer. Obviously you weren't saying that the only way to prove you're a "huge" fan of Macca's is to get a McCartney-related tattoo. That was a bit of a twisting of words. I think what Clayer meant was, at least the people that Paul has met in this way (tattoo sigs) are true fans. I highly doubt someone that just thinks he's ok would bother permanently attaching his signature to their bodies. However, that's clearly not to say that this is how you must prove your "fandom". I am certain nobody would make that argument - because it makes no sense, and has no basis.
-
actually this isn't unique to Paul's shows, this tattoo of the autograph is happening with a lot of bands. it's getting to be passe now.

Yay!

Thank you, Furlow .. that is exactly the point I was making!! xxx
