I was on a road once in Colorado, and it had a bit of altitude, just enough so that you could see the Front Range stretch out in both directions....and then Long's Peak behind it a bit. Also a bunch of other mountain peaks. I always think of how nice it would be to have that view! Priceless!!! Then the views in the mountains, I remember Vail when it was up and coming. Rocky Mountain National Park, Winter Park, Red Rocks, the stars and the auroras you can see in the Mountains while hot tubbing, Dinosaur National Park, Glennwood Springs, Gunnison and Loveland Passes
...Santa Fe, was such a cool town in NM and the long ride between Colorado and Arizona... Then Arizona with its sagauro and ocotillo cactus, the buttes and mesas, warm winters, wide open spaces and all of the cool Indian presence and turquoise jewelry, the painted clay pots, even going through Winslow for the first time and thinking of the Eagles, the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest and Meteor Crater, the ghost towns and the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Montezuma's Castle and the Mexican border towns. It is so difficult to choose !
Very Cool Vision!

Good example especially in the world of Birds. Several birds visit my balcony during the morning hours. This morning they heard a siren breafly honk and the biirds briefly spooked. I said its okay and my birds inside say its okay and once the veihicle left they finally felt safe enough to return love doris

Not only are these in the same country, but they're relatively close to each other. Simply amazing.

^^ when you see some of those critters in real life, their scale looks a bit off too

The short answer is Geology! Have ridden on the back of a motorcycle out in this area! There's no windshield, just pure awesomeness in God's country!
Makes you a believer! From the Rockies west, both North and South is some of the most beautiful sights in the world !!! Antelope Canyon

This must be awesome to see, putting on a short list!

^^ Those canyon shots remind me of my favorite national park in the US...ZION. They have a hike that goes down the river (that carned out these canyons) & you have to register before you go. Flash floods can sweep you away. I'll download these pictures and post smaller versions soon, but I don't have time right now.

^^Love the photos from Zion!! Some photos from old slides so they're a bit faded. Climbing Long's Peak.
Going to the top...up there!
-
Beautiful shots of Long's Peak. Colorado? I have some old vacation pics of us hiking upriver at Zion. Gosh, I should dig those out one of these days.
-
^Yes, Long's Peak Colorado... It's a fun climb with some scary parts
You would probably enjoy it. All the trails in Rocky Mountain Nat. Park are pretty great! We took the Keyhole route, there were no restrooms at the time! In the photo above, of the Flatirons, I think the Keyhole may be visible in the top right third. The best way is to hike in and camp, there are a couple of camps. Wished we would have camped in the Boulder Field! Then you have to get up really early to try and get to the top before the afternoon lightning storms. It rolls in balls down the mountainside at times!!
I got to slide #16 before we had to turn back due to the oncoming thunderclouds!! http://www.14ers.com/route.php?route=long1&peak=longs+peak Got about a third of the way up #17 slide and then we actually had to turn back due to warnings of people regarding the storm coming. Someday I'd like to go back!

Absolutely gorgeous photos! Was the walk in water the whole time thru the canyon?
-
Yes, you needed to wear shoes that you didn't mind getting wet. It is a hike up the Virgin River. I think I like it so much because you are at the bottom of the sheer cliffs & you just feel so insignificant. "The enchantment of nature is abundant in Utah, where nearly eighty-percent of the state is land administered for public use, by federal and state agencies. Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks and the Grand Staircase-Escalante share a common sanctuary in the vast desert of southern Utah. Each national treasure has its own unique display of rock sculptures to share. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon in the far north section of Arizona also dips its boundaries into the geologic framework of the Grand Staircase." http://www.zionnational-park.com/grand-staircase.htm

Thats one state I need to explore more! Have only been thru Salt Lake City and seen the salt flats, floated in the briney salt lake with the brine flies... It looks so gorgeous and have seen great photos of all the parks you mentioned!!

You're very welcome. I grew up with lakes surrounded by green in summer and white in winter, so desert colors are always interesting to me. That entire region - Utah, New Mexico, Arizona - is beautiful.
