oobu24 They are great aren't they? Love them all. They have so much more style than today's super sharp, colourful snaps paraded on Flickr etc. Always fascinated by historic photos/negatives......good job, seeing as that's what I work on mostly as an art historian.

We belong to a group that has gone around & painted signs & advertizing on walls to look old. Actually we do that quite a bit. We always say that we are stuck in the 30s with the sign panels that we do. But it is being sought after (here in my area at least) because of the automation of producing signs. We do that too but we also have all the aparatus for painting walls & such & more importantly...the knowledge. We have sign magazines (signs of the times) dating back to the 20s & 30s. All very interesting. But they stink now since they are soo old. haha...

I ran into a childhood best friend on Facebook recently who I hadn't seen in over thirty-five years or so -- turns out he's a successful music and TV producer now. When he learned of my great affection for New York , and all great architecture, he sent me this DOCU FILM he made to my delight..it has a nice back story aswell. He said I would miss New York even more after viewing it --- you were right JIM!! Here's the film...Enjoy! http://www.fadingad.com/blog/FRANK_JUMP_DVD_PROJECT.mp4

Claudia! How cool...exactly what I was talking about. I need to put some of my pics somewhere for you all to see. We did a few coca-cola ones like in that vid. Funny story...we were selling our client on a wall we wanted to do with a frigidaire ad. He called his office & asked his 20 something secretary what she thought of when he said frigidaire...she says...really cold air? haha...we didn't do that ad on that wall.. :

I know, oobu, isn't that wild?!?!..lol. My mind immediately flashed to the film..I've had it for a few months now, and I just luv it! I was so taken with how beautiful some of them are, and, of course, the nostalgic connection for me, not only with New York, but specific ones like WABC Radio and even the name of a dress company where my mum use to work...incredible. So, you'll have to post some pics of your paintings -- I'd love to see them.

Thanks for sharing the video. He said the same thing that I used to say about taking Nature photographs. The tree, the flower (and man-made things in nature) .... the old fence, barn etc ...... would be there all day for you to take the photo ..... you could look for different angles, lighting and take your time getting the good shot.

Love these too..... A bit more modern and British (stands to attention as the national athem is played). You get some good pictures from this website. Sadly, the paper is a right wing rag. Always nice to peruse, to keep an eye on what the right wing white van drivers are up to..... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2037830/Breathtaking-colours-autumn-complimented-streaks-pinks-gold-sky-mirrored-water-Somerset-Levels.html

Those above were Coca cola & Lionel Trains. Gold Medal Flour GoodYear Tire Stay Cool Oil
Thanks for those oobu,..really nice, and very authentic looking. I still have to marvel at the coincidence of that.. altho' I shouldn't really, it happens to me quite often. Well, you certainly have an artistic gene running through you -- must be very rewarding. Keep up the good work!

Your welcome...I'm glad you enjoyed it. Of course being from New YOrk really gives it more impact, but it still strikes a chord with many others, especially photographers.

This is the guy that Paul talks about sometimes when he mentions George and his Ukelele fetish. Dragging this site kicking and screaming down into the abyss with his jocular music hall lyrics and whimsical melody it's our old favourite, second only to Paul in order of importance to 20th music (and leaving John standing in the controversial words category....talk about risque... .....and why isn't the woman in the first piece wearing a bra....the trollop!.... ), that's right, it's George Formby!! You Lucky People! You can thank me later..... .....no rotten tomatoes please......
And the episode of the BBC's Goodnight Sweetheart where World War 2 time traveller Gary Sparrow tries not to sell a song he has written called 'When I'm 64' to George Formby. -
All I could handle was the first 25 seconds & I can only say...please Paul don't sing that in concert!
-
oobu24 I love to heap on the agony for souls like yourself.....so here we go.....
The reaction of the audience to the song is interesting, they actually start to sing the bloomin' thing!.... -
LOL! AND...those were people from London!
-
oobu24 Wouldn't it be funny if on his 'Lowering the Standards' album in the new year Paul does a version of 'Leaning On The Lampost'..... Or these two......excellent!
.......this is what I put this thread up for, to torture decent souls like yourself.... If the authorities found out about this I'll be hauled off to War Crimes Court at the Hague. Don't worry though, with every view of these 'crimes', sorry songs, you get a free food parcel from the Red Cross.... BTW...what was he doing with his stick of Blackpool rock?..... .....filthy beast!! -
Not torture as much as...just very old. Some of the comments are very funny about his 'stick" of blackpool rock I dread Paul's standards album. Not looking forward to it at all. BUT I do hope that he does it well & that it will surprise me.

Oh the standards album.....I'm trying sooo hard not to think about it! A room with a view anyone.....try You Tube.....I can't even bring myself to post it.
