Aye up David M. (aka) sweetums "Aye as in eye should be ay as in, well, err..ay.... After laughing my head off, I must have said that line over and over about ten times in the most british/pirate type voice I could conjure up!! And of course, your sailor/port side analysis had me in STITCHES!!! you SLAY me with your humor!! I know!...you're the GOOD HUMOR MAN! ...he use to come round' when I was a wee lass in Brooklyn telling us funny stories and tempting us with his sweet treats! Anyhoo, anyhow, I wanted to tell you that you simply must watch BAND OF BROTHERS and as chance would have it, I turned on the telly just now and it's playing onthe SPIKE Channel. I am posting a clip here for you to get a taste of it. The movie was based on the wartime exploits of EASY COMPANY of the 506the Parachute Infantry Regiment l01st Airborne Division that landed in Normandy on D-Day right through the incredible seige of Bastogne, hence the term that was given to them.....THE BATTERED BASTARDS OF BASTOGNE. I'm going to post more scenes on my movie thread as well. Enjoy luv!

Claudia611 Ay up chuck!.......'ows tha doing lass? The good humour man?!... Lord, if he came round here doing that today they'd say he was a very suspicious type, the police, social services and the courts would probably brand him a disgusting pervert and sling him in the cooler for 15 years even if it was all innocent. Don't worry though coz then they would let him out after 12 months because they desperately needed the cell (sadly, that's true, it's not a joke). We had a man that came round our way...but all he did was pull a little wagon and sharpen your knives for ya....oh, and we had the rag and bone man (junk collectors) with his horse drawn cart. Sadly neither of them could tell jokes. I had a very humour-deprived childhood.....and depraved adulthood.... I'm gettin' the whole of 'Mash' for Crimbo and '24' series 7 so I'll push the boat out and buy 'BOB' as well. The wife is getting lost. Sorry, that should read the wife is getting 'Lost'..... Talking of rag and bone men.....'Steptoe and Son' (Sanford and Son in the US) (one of the great comic gems of British TV....check their shows out on You Tube) in live TV skit from 1966....

hi All! David, over in England do you have some type of government agency that has records of military service? I know that sounds silly cause I am sure you must...maybe they have a record of your uncle's service, etc... the reason I mention it, is here in the U.S. you must write the Dept. Of Justice and request military information on deceased service members. I am about to do that with my Dad's military record. Hopefully I will find out more than I know now. I am the black sheep of my family too.

hey_kittay It's the same as in yours I'd imagine....national archives, war graves commission, local records office and regimental museums/records etc. As with everything in this country you have to pay for the info.....which shouldn't be the case seeing as we have freedom of information across here. Got his regiment and grave location etc but haven't yet attempted to find the rest of the info. As for my fathers side of the family well my grandfather seems to have been a virgin birth......it's difficult to obtain reliable records before 1850 here unless you were rich, part of an organisation, went to jail or were transported to Australia (or some other colony like the US. Whatever happened to the place?.... ) or were in the miltary. And of course, going in the opposite direction, they are still catching up in the 20th century......I think they are up to 1911 with the census records.

David, me one & only seer, seeker & fellow rabble rousing kindred mate! Like you, moths will fly outta me wallet before I spend a ha'penny on looking up ancestors. I thought those places were free. Some of my ancestors were Polish miners & some were quite wealthy & damned the lot of them for not leaving a red cent in the family coffers! Soon I'll need a nudge to get taters peeled for a batch of tasty whipped mashed potates.

I'm gonna post this quietly on this thread...... I'm a bloke so I'm sitting firmly on the fence on this one, with the prong inserted up to the hilt up my posteria. I'll let you ladies discuss this one I think...... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1232485/My-generation-created-sexual-revolution--wrecking-lives-women-since.html

Well, gee I might not strike a cool note with some of my fellow female friends here, but I for one wish the Feminist Movement had asked me what I thought before they began burning their bras. It seems like the women got 'Freedom' or did they? We still do not get paid equal salary in most jobs like men do. And then women still get exploited by men for men to make more money for themselves. So, being born in 1968, I have nothing to do with it, and I wish the do-gooder women of the 60's had left a loophole for girls like me, who didn't agree with them

Great idea! We can declare David as the Pinnie of the Month!

hey_kittay I wish you'd learn to type properly, that should have read.....'we can declare David ninny of the month'.......that's the award I normally get..... Pinny of the month! The only one I have shrunk in the wash, what do I do? Do I wear the smaller one, none at all or give up the opportunity to be the first page three pinny-up?.....

David, Page 3 Pinny it is! I'm in a slightly better mood than yesterday. I am going to buy 3 lottery tix for Sunday's drawing. Even a "paltry" $25,000 would be a huge help. I need a new washer & a good 2nd hand car.
