Profit-driven insurance companies shouldn't even be part of the friggin' equation when it comes to our healthcare. Universal healthcare + educating my fellow Americans not to be so fat and lazy is the key.

But as I alluded to in my previous post - we basically had that, except it didn't have a fancy name and didn't dig into the pockets of everyone else...it was called plain and simple 'we'll take care of you if you need medical care (operative term 'need')'[/code]

OK -- I can concede to that, somewhat -- but what about preventive care? Isn't that essential, too?

A routine exam is actually not expensive and in fact, if you take into account the cost of insurance (I actually have relatively reasonably priced insurance through work at roughly in the low $40 range deducted weekly from my pay check), it's probably a wash...where you'd get hit is with emergencies...but as I mentioned above, if you're already low income, they can't take blood from a rock and they can't take the basic funds you need to survive on a day to day basis and put a roof over your head. If your fortunes ever improved, you probably would be held liable to pay some reasonable amound of monthly retrobution at that time Other things like flu shots, TB tests, etc - while I can get them at my PC's office, because of the timing I need to have them for school (I'm a nursing student), I just go to the local CVS or where I need to go (my PC office will not do a TB test in less than 1 year from the prior one and since my TB update expires on a yearly basis at school, I can't wait for that)...these things cost between something like 30-50 dollars. That's more cheap preventive medicine right there...

These tests you mention are quite affordable for people like you and me, but can be quite pricey for folks in this situation -- which is becoming a huge problem: Census shows 1 in 2 people are poor or low-income http://newssun.suntimes.com/business/9486367-420/census-shows-1-in-2-people-are-poor-or-low-income.html

Exactly Audi, Prevention is KEY. Not charging for deductibles for preventive screening and encouraging preventive education without charge saves huge amounts of money. Emergency medicine is the most expensive type of treatment and having people get care before their situation becomes an emergency saves us MASSIVE amounts of money and also saves businesses sick time etc. Obamacare has a lot of great benefits and encouraging prevention is one of the best.

Yep! Still, Republicans and the Blue Dog Senate Democrats are OWNED by the insurance lobby -- which is why we didn't get a public option. Ah, greed. Ain't it just dandy?

Would love a public option in there now. But there are provisions in the law that allow for states to have public options and some states VT, CA are going through the processes now. Also expanding the Community Health Centers which Obamacare does gives a public option though limited as anyone can go insurance or not.

I pitch in by educating about the causes of cancer as in US at least 60% are lifestyle related http://www.environmentalhealthnews.org/ehs/news/environmental-cancers
Smoking alone accounts for at least 30 percent of all U.S. cancer deaths, and about the same percentage is attributed to diet, obesity and physical inactivity. But it?s the remaining cancers ? about one out of every three ? that trigger debate.
So 60% of cancers in US can be cured(prevented) by lifestyles changes. I can't change someone's lifestyle they have to change their own all I can do is educate.
What life style change do you think could cure cancer? Just curious. Have you heard of Dr burzynski and his cancer clinic.
-
Oh yeah. Smoking accounts for 30% of all cancer deaths (maybe), but that's a trick answer for politics and taxes. We are supposed to Believe That? Look. In California The American Cancer Society projects in 2012 there will be more than 16,973 (Thousand)smoking-related cancer deaths. Look, there are anywhere from 3.6 Million to 5.1 Million Smokers in California. The Organizations working with The State say ~14% of the California Population are Smokers. Look. The smoking-related cancer death rate per year is Less than One Percent of the smokers. Look. The Government Loves to take our taxes, but The Money Is Not Being Used For Smoking-Related Costs. Look. The Tobacco Tax Revenue Is Not Being Used For Smoking-Related Cancer. Look. The Excessive Tobacco Taxes Are Being Spent On Everything But Cancer. If I meant to kill myself, I certainly Would Not Use Tobacco to Get the Job Done. So how do you prevent Cancer when the Carcinogens contained in tobacco and marijuana smoke are less than causative in the majority of tobacco and marijuana users AND THE UNJUST SPECIAL TOBACCO TAXES ARE BEING SPENT ON EVERYTHING BUT CANCER?

Hey Apple, I've really been doing a lot of research on this due to my Macca's Meatless Monday columns(see cosmically conscious) for almost 4 years. Lifestyle diseases including heart disease, diabetes, many cancers, etc, etc, are best prevented by a vegan low fat diet, good amount of exercise, no smoking etc. etc. It's not 100% of course but you can even reverse heart disease by a vegan diet as Bill Clinton seems to be doing. The cure is prevention. Some expect that they can keep on abusing their bodies and miracle cures will come along and save them. It doesn't work that way. The Vegan diet is also the most effective way an individual can reduce their carbon footprint so it's a win win all around
And treating lifestyle diseases cost us trillions of dollars -
The total cost (based on what is known) for the 17-day vacation roundtrip vacation to Hawaii for the President, his family and staff has climbed to more than $4 million. http://www.hawaiireporter.com/with-more-vacation-days-and-separate-travel-price-of-obama%E2%80%99s-annual-hawaiian-holiday-rises/123 A staycation seems like a better idea Considering the economic climate ... in fact, considering all things ... It's more consumer/taxpayer friendly That's more money than most people will earn in a lifetime! If the person who ran on a ticket for change, cannot change himself ... it's long overtime for the Boot

President from N Korea is dead according to their state TV...another murderous tyrant gone, good riddens

The bad news is that his scary psycho son is taking over...Btw, the report says he died of exhaustion while on a train...I can't help to believe that this must be some kind of code language for some other kind of death

He was probably just exhausted from having to slog through a round of golf in which he recorded a mere two aces http://sports.nationalpost.com/2011/12/19/cam-cole-remembering-kim-jong-ils-golf-skills/

It's getting better all the timeMore great news from the Obama administration is that Biden once again puts his foot in his mouth by stating the Taliban is not our enemy...then the White House issues a statement indicating it stands behind those remarks...nice for us because people are counting down the days until that farce of a administration is gone and the more dumbass comments like that, the merrier... Obama and gang were smarter when they distanced themselves from this bafoon's comments....(such as asking a paraplegic to stand up and take a bow)...now they just outright support his stupidity

No need to distance from Biden's comments because they are honest and correct. Just like the German's will not be our enemy forever because of their involvement in WWII the Taliban is a rag tag group who are being assimilated into their countries so they will have to be accepted...it's called diplomacy. al Qaeda is our enemy (well the few who are left ) because they still plot against us. You're going to be counting a long time rich Really who of your candidates do you think can beat Obama : hehe
-
I don't know that the opposing candidates can beat Obama as much as Obama beating Obama. His record. The administration. Voters who are frustrated with the direction the Country is going. Too much spending. High unemployment. Over 10, 20 and 30% in some Cities. One out of three people not working. People who have given up looking for work. Fudged unemployment numbers - where they say a low number - then two months later correct that number to what it really is ... High gasoline prices. Class warfare. A non friendly toward business - administration. (It comes from the top). Etc... etc .... So whoever the opposing candidate ..... they just have to use the record. (Last time Obama did not really have a record - except to vote present). What the opposing candidate must watch out for is ..... the media and press is on Obama's side. They will dig for everything to slam the opposing candidate instead of pointing out their own accomplishments. This is the way it is in the political world. They also have to face a person who will have close to a billion dollars to spend on getting in that office. And they should ask the question .... are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?
