The ..2012.... Political thread

Shameful I think to disparage food stamps when there are so many hungry children in the U.S. Course the right thinks nobody is really "poor" in the U.S. Looks like "compassionate conservatism" is just a pipe dream and wild goose chase, mostly It's gonna be interesting (and awful) if that Santorum person wins over Mitt Romney tonight in Romney's home state of Michigan. I've read up on Romney and he's not nearly as bad as Rick S., so I hope Mitt wins. The latest outrageous thing I read about Santorum (what kind of name is that? What nationality, do you think? I know he's American but...you know what I mean, I've never heard of that surname previously) is that he's putting down college educations and calling Obama a "snob" for his pro-higher education stance! Reminds of that v.p.. long ago, Nixon's I think (?) calling college students, professors, intellectuals in general "elite snobs." Or "effete snobs" I think that was it.
What's funny is this was just addressed on 'The Five' a short while ago on FOX. The point was made that if you believe foodstamps and other welfare benefits should be handled better, then (according to the Dems) you're attitude must be screw the poor, let them starve...basically some more media matters (as well as Rev Jesse Jackson's) vomit. The greatest moment in politics during the past several weeks was how media matters was exposed for the lying scam artists they are....starting right from the beginning when they claimed we were burning Korans in Gitmo (turned out not to be true, a lie drummed up by media matters) right up to this supposed attitude conservatives have regarding the poor. There are poor conservatives who'll tell you to stuff it just the same as the rich ones would.... http://spectator.org/archives/2012/02/28/obamas-food-stamp-fetish

that depend on the meaning of private compensation. Is Boeing private really....they receive most of their income from government contracts. How about the banking industry and all there bailout. Or Wall Street who have lobby unfair practices. Or medical where most of there income is from medicare or some other government paid for health care. I have a neighbor who a firemen talk about welfare with dignity. That piss me off. 6,000 a year for property taxes and mostly due to school and fire and police . This guy getting 160,000 for nothing. The problem is we created such a expensive country to live in that there no going back and no wants to pay a livable wage. Another set of friends going over the wall...moving to Costa Rica . Can't afford to live in America and figure it they got to be poor might be in a country where they take care of there sick and elderly.

Scanning the article, my jaw dropped with utter surprise, but I kept reading and found the rationale for this decision: "Administration officials told Congress that one goal of the increased fees is to force military retirees to reduce their involvement in Tricare and eventually opt out of the program in favor of alternatives established by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare." It is not as if they are being thoroughly disregarded; they have a choice. And it is as affordable as what they already have. When you are President, there are times when tough choices have to be made -- and there is unquestionably a greater good here.

I disagree - the Pres. himself (as Commander In Chief) should set an example and personally opt out of a health care package that US Military personnel could only dream ... (he & his family) as an example for all Americans & taxpayers.

Nice try, I'm talking about taxpayer funded healthcare benefits both now & for the future. It seems to me that he would rather give those who deserve the most, the shaft.

That "nice Try" assertion was not necessary, as I was not attempting to pull a fast one on somebody. That's what your side usually does. Getting back to the subject: I'm sure President's Obama's motivation for running for this office -- enduring a record number of Presidential death threats, lies about his faith, lies about his national status, veiled racist rants from conservative talking-heads -- was NOT the health benefits.

Sorry, I really thought it was a sidetrack ... He ran on a ticket of "Change" Change is cheap if the one doing the talking is not willing to change himself.

Would be quite a three-ring circus if he dared to propose the he and all members of Congress have the same healthcare the rest of us do. Still, I'm not at all certain, but I believe that he and Michelle pay for their own healthcare insurance. Just as they pay for their own white house meals. And don't forget, Obama has written many personal checks to Americans in need.

All US Presidents and their immediate families receive free health care and the President has a Dr. close by at all time for security reasons. But the question is why aren't the republicans on this site bragging about their awesome primary candidates? It's been like crickets in here And why aren't they defending their great spokesman Limbaugh? Sorry, I couldn't resist

(them crickets is still a chirpin')
-
^^^^LOL - I thought the crickets were chirping ever since Media Matters was exposed for the frauds they are But anyway - sure, I haven't settled on a GOP candidate right now...but three of the four (Ron Paul being the odd man out) could run circles around the Obama administration. Ron Paul would be just another Obama serving under the Republican tag. While obviously Paul won't win the nomination, if he had, chances are I would've cast a write in vote with Mickey Mouse rather than vote for either Obama or Paul (I'm not surprised that Paul is the one candidate that receives the most favorable responses from the left...and it's funny that the most 'Obama-like' candidate the GOP offers is floating in dead last place) Santorum's personal views are a little too far out there for me...but I wonder how much a candidate's personal views on religion or even abortion/gay marriage (since they're under state jurisdiction) have on how a they can run a country...He could be the front runner right now if he didn't focus so much on his personal views regarding contraceptives, obortions, various fetal testing, etc...because he can't do anything about them either way and talking about them turns people off. If pressed, I'd probably say I lean towards Romney right now, although I'm skeptical towards his alledged plans to get rid of Obamacare given that I live in MA and that's exactly where Obamacare's blueprint was made - under Romney. I'd probably want Gingrich the most except he carries too much baggage and I think that's why he's starting to float near the end of the pack along with Paul.
