How Much Money Do You Need

I had pondered that quirk of Elton's before, and realized that he is spending his money back into the economy, and creating work and compensation for working people in doing this. Rich people who hoard their money and are not spending it back into the general economy is what's bothersome. We have to keep the money moving.
That's a good point. We like to criticize people who spend money like it's going out of style and praise the hoarders. But if you own a shop, you want someone like Elton or Oprah as a customer. I've always felt that if I had money, I'd still live a modest lifestyle. But then I would be doing nothing for the economy. Paris Hilton probably does more for the economy than most companies.

Money is a necessary evil. We all need it to survive.

Money is only a medium of exchange for other's works. It saves us from having to barter for everything. I can't imagine a farmer hauling bushels baskets of corn around to buy gas or pay bills. That would be an interesting sight at the dept. store. It was the lust of money that was described as the root of all evil. It is apparent in the fact that the rich are literally getting richer and the poor are literally poorer. And the sad results are apparent.

What would be really nice, is for people to be able to make enough money to live happily, doing something they really loved doing. The people who can do that, are truly the richest people in the world. Sadly, for one reason or another, many people get themselves locked into jobs they don't enjoy, in order to pay the bills. On the other hand there are those like van Gogh who painted masterpieces, all his lifetime, was not recognized for his genius, and still kept painting anyway...

At least those people HAVE a job & get up to go to work everyday to get that money that they need to pay the bills. As the song says...I worked hard for my money...

A life surrounded by people who don't see any other value in you than to exploit you for financial gain... It reminds me of some writer who once wrote that "There is nothing wrong with committing suicide, it's just the wrong people who do it".

I sooooo agree!! What would be your ideal job? Thankful to have my job, even tho it's not anywhere close to ideal. It does pay the bills.

It would be important to remember that some people are unemployed for reasons one many not see on the surface or understand their circumstances, so please do not judge a person before walking in their shoes. I just wish now I had the money to pay my upcoming hospital bills. I just need a real job. I keep getting job offers but they don't pan out. People offer me a job then take it back. It would be nice if I still had my home and my other home to live in that were paid for legally, then destroyed by a group of criminals for real estate flip flopping. If that had not happened I would not be homeless and unemployed right now. And I would not have been hospitalized 2 days ago if all that had not occurred. One never knows for sure in life if they may or may not be homeless. Or die the next day. If my mom and I can be homeless anyone can be. We never would have dreamed this to happen by no fault of our own. So be thankful for what you all have as it can be taken away tomorrow. Peace and Love.

You are very correct Kittay and I'm so sorry you are going through such a rough time right now. While I've thankfully never been homeless I have been through the whole will I have enough money to buy food this week situation when I was unemployed for a long stretch of time about 15 years ago after getting laid off from a job and it taking a while to find a new one, it's scary, very scary. A job will come, it may not seem like it now, but something will come your way. It will take a while to get back up on your feet but don't give up!

^^ Thank you. I appreciate everyone's kindness here. I just remember the times when I would give money to people on the street, on the way home from work or college, who were homeless and I never thought it would be me. I think it would do everyone some good to be in such a situation so they might appreciate their lives more. I am living rental to rental not on the actual street yet. But if you legally pay for two homes one should be able to inhabit them. Thanks again. I am sure all will work out. And if anyone reads this and is in a bad situation, remember you are not alone and it can change to a positive somehow. Back to Unicorn Land.

So sorry to hear that you were in the hospital. Hope you are doing much better. It is a very frightening feeling to be jobless and homeless as well. It's been a long time for me thankfully, but I know of a couple who both lost their jobs in the same week! You can never tell what will happen in life. You're right, no one has the right to judge someone's job situation or anything else, for that matter. Wishing you all the best Kittay and I hope you are feeling much better soon. Saying prayers that things such as a job and a better situation for you and your Mom, opens up for you soon.

Kittay...I hope the next job offer really does pan out for you. It's a shame the others didn't. I know too from experience, that everything doesn't go as planned. We can only control so much. But at least we keep trying...some don't.

When it comes to art, you do it because you have to. It doesn't matter if anyone ever recognizes you.

And women are still hitting the glass ceiling when it comes to money.

Of course... Just saw Vermeer and going to see van Gogh tomorrow. So happy that they both painted and painted and painted....and wish so much that they were recognized in their time.

That brings up an interesting point. Would it have been better if van Gogh was recognized in his lifetime? Would he have painted more or less? Would fame and fortune have affected his work?

Perhaps he would have painted more, considering he would have had more money for supplies. Maybe he wouldn't have eaten the camphor and drank the turpentine... Something that caused him to see more yellow... So that would have changed his paintings a bit, I presume. Perhaps he could have afforded a doctor who could helped with his ear and stayed out of the hospital in Arles. If Vermeer had been recognized, it would have definitely helped him, with the 15 children, they say he died almost overnight due to worry of finances. We'd have more of his paintings, as they most likely were auctioned off with his belongings, after his death. Heard today that Rembrandt went bankrupt at the end as well...

More money for art and music. Hear hear!
