Doctor Who

Just finished watching The Lodger Lovely cuddly feelgood tale. Obviously a gentle tale, because we've reached series end - this was episode 11 - next week is the two parter series finale starting with part one The Pandorica Opens and tonights end of episode preview promises an incredible story... Meanwhile after tonights story.... anybody want a hug? Martin

Loved "The Lodger" last night, as Martin says it was certainly a feelgood show. Based on a one-off comic strip from Doctor Who Magazine a few years ago, that saw David Tennant's Doctor lodging with on-off companion Mickey Smith and having to pass as a "normal" human-being for a week. The "alien threat" in the comic strip was dealt with in one or two frames, so they had to develop much more of a story to fill out the full 45 minutes. That said, at its heart, "The Lodger" in its TV incarnation was still a very warm and very funny, human character story. Beautifully done. Next week's season finale part 1 (are we at the finale ALREADY??!! ) looked truly EPIC! And I don't use that word lightly. If the finale is half as good as the trailer led us to believe it will be, prepare for one heck of a white-knuckle ride - fasten your seatbelts now!!

Yeah I thought it was great last night. Can't wait for the next episode it looks so good and I can't believe it's already near the end of the series! I didn't know that episode was based on a comic strip from the doctor who magazine though. Pretty cool

Hi welcome to the Doctor Who discussion Sunset. Feel free to post your thoughts on the show! Last night was great, wasn't it. Just to say that the show is about 2-3 weeks behind the US, so be careful not to post plot details in case it spoils it for US friends. I think they saw "The Hungry Earth" last night. Other than that, please let us know what you think of all things Who!

Thanks Birthday! I actually didn't think this series would be so good! I didn't think anyone could ever be as good as David Tennant was as the Doctor! But the first episode of this series proved that Matt Smith could be as good as David and now I find myself thinking who is better David or Matt? They are both brillant as the doctor! Thinking about it Matt is my favourite cause this has been my favourite series by FAR!

Triplets...thank you sooo much for posting the times! I will be tuning into the Doctor dare I say, today....especially since I see these "Daleks are in MANHATTAN" ??? This will prove interesting to say the least! Be back again soon to share some thoughts..hope I like it!

Hey...I just watched the Daleks in Manhattan....I dug it alot!! Took me a while to warm up to it, of course, as with anything new like that. Certainly the New York accents helped quite a bit with that ...had to chuckle at that Talulla's character accent....a bit overdone I'd say Even my friends from Brooklyn don't sound like that!! Anyway, I loved the "pigslaves"..creepy man...saw a TWILIGHT ZONE once that had the same type of character and it was one of my very favorites. I loved it when the leader opened his exterior and revealed his inner workings ...YIKES!! ....reminded me of the scene in one of my favorite movies 'PREDITOR" starring Arnold Schwarzernager when the alien took off his mask...OMG was that thing UGLY!!! Scared the hell out of me! Anyway, I'm definately interested in carrying on with it. It's definately up my alley...I've always been a SCI FI freak and this is definately in that genre'. Thanks again Triplits for the heads up...you're a peach!!

Hi love2travel. There's plenty to watch out for in next week's episode "Cold Blood" - the season arc develops in quite a major way. But I'll hold off too much detail, in case TLP wants to avoid any spoilers. What did you think of Amy's Choice and The Hungry Earth then? I loved Amy's Choice. I loved that whole dream versus reality theme that was running through the episode, with a fabulous twist at the end. Not sure what to make of the Doctor battling hordes of old folk though! The Hungry Earth was gripping, but had a whole retro thing going on - very early to mid 1970s Doctor Who, with an abandoned mine, an isolated village and of course the Silurians making a long-overdue comeback. Nice study of human nature in the face of the threat from beneath too. The Silurians appeared in Jon Peterwee's reign as the Doctor in 1970 - the original inhabitants of Planet Earth - they wanted it back, only for the military to blow them up. This is referred to during "Cold Blood". See, I know far too much about Doctor Who than is healthy! ops: Radio Times cover Karen and Matt grace the front cover of the UK's leading TV listings magazine "Radio Times" (produced by the BBC's publications arm), trailing the first part of the season finale this Saturday. Inside the magazine, interviewed about the role of Amy, Karen says:
We just kind of bounce off each other. The banter that you see on screen ? that?s what we?re like all day on set. I sometimes wonder if it?s our way of keeping our energy up between scenes, but it?s all subconscious. And I think we might have been like that if we?d met in any other situation. The one thing I never wanted to do with Amy was to base her on any kind of formula, to conform to what works ? or what has worked ? in a companion; you know, the whole, likeable, girl-next-door business. Amy is likeable, I hope, but she?s not ordinary. She?s quite complicated and there are layers to explore. So I was taking a few risks with her and I think it works.
And yes, that is Stonehenge in the background - as seen in the trailers for this season.....

Just love this spoof Facebook page, posted the day after David "regenerated" into Matt..... Enjoy.....http://www.holymoly.com/sites/default/files/imce/doctor-who-facebook-page.jpg (Just think back to the last 15 minutes of David's reign as the Doctor and Matt's first words in the role in order to get the jokes).

The Pandorica Opens (Series Finale Part one of two)... What can I say? Such eloquent story telling, weaving the fabric of the tale from strands drawn from throughout the series. Incredibly well filmed but I can't tell anymore until it unfolds in the USA... Very fitting for the season's ending..... And now it's our turn for a painful weeks wait.. Martin
-
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a truly epic episode! Like Martin, I can't say any more, but that was one heck of an opening to the season finale! And an absolutely INCREDIBLE cliff-hanger.......
-
Good to see you all enjoying the Doc and his new adventures..... I am going to admit something now.......I hate the new Doctor Who. From the new tardis to the Teletubby daleks, from Matt Smith to the average storylines, I loathe it. We are massive Dr Who fans here in the Valley of the Damned and we all (including my 6 year old son) sit afterwards looking at each going nah! We still watch praying that it'll get better.....but so far we're disappointed. I think it's him really. After David Tennant he is too lightweight and nowhere near the actor that Tennant is. Amy's Pond?.......she is lovely eye candy, but I prefer Tennant's partners and their characters.

The Pandorica opens was so good! And as birthday said a great cliff-hanger! I can't wait until next weeks episode!

Hi David, great to have you back. We were huge David fans in this house too. My little boy literally cried his eyes out when David regenerated into Matt at Christmas. He was determined not to like Matt Smith, but admitted at the weekend that he likes Matt just as much now! I agree David's range was far greater, possibly due to his age, but also because he's an incredible actor. However I have taken to Matt as the season's gone on and think he's playing the role really well now. He's got an unwordly quality, like an absent-minded professor that I think suits the role really well. Reminds me of Patrick Troughton's Doctor, even before the papers started making the connection. We've been discussing Amy's character on here as the season's progressed. We were concerned that the character was a little too one-sided at first - lots of feistiness, but little else. But as the season's gone on she's shown more of a vulnerable side and is a more rounded character now. Just loved Saturday's season finale part 1 - as Martin said, incredible how they've woven the plot across the whole season. For US viewers, I won't post any spoilers, because believe me you won't thank me if I do. All I'll say though, is just keep in mind all the little bits we've been discussing all season about the season arc, and all the little mysteries, when you watch the Pandorica Opens - it will ALL make sense!
-
Why did no one tell me sooner how AWESOME this show is?! My husband recently got into it and he's obsessed! He also has a man crush on David Tennant! haha I've only seen a few episodes of this current series but I love what I've seen!

Nice teaser from Stephen Moffatt ahead of the season finale in the UK on Saturday: UK viewers can read this if they've already seen Episode 12 "The Pandorica Opens". It doesn't give anything away that you don't already know. US viewers - PLEASE DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK until you've seen Episode 12. Contains BIG spoilers for Ep 12. Hi Birthday, Sorry I haven't gotten back, I've been extremely busy this month... have had to download the shows from iTunes and watch them later... I'm so glad I can do that. I did love Amy's Choice... it was well done, but I missed the crack, if there was one... I'll have to go back and look. I'm a little sad because, until the boyfriend showed up, I kind of liked the chemistry between Amy and the Doctor. It was kind of sad that she couldn't figure it out, until he was turned to sand tho. Just think, if he hadn't been killed, would she still be confused? : I am agreeing with the posts that say they liked David Tennent as the doctor. I believe that I do too... Am working my way through season 2 & 3. Stonehenge... that will be interesting... also looking forward to catching up with the Vincent segment, don't know if that played yet!!! Oh and thanks for the warning about the link... of course... being a woman... DO NOT click on the link, for me, means DO click, very quickly I might add.. ops: Interesting... well, I'd better get going on catching up haven't I!!!

To co-incide with tonights final episode of Doctor Who's season the BBC has released part 2 of the computer game. www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw and follow the links. This game is called Blood Of The Cybermen If you've got Part 1 installed it will install as a next level to the original, otherwise it should run as a stand-alone episode. Martin
