Doctor Who

Oh... Seen the finale part 2 now... Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, but so many many twists. You must watch this ignorant of the outcome and ending so NO SPOILERS please until the USA report they've seen the final episode. Christmas Special next. Martin

I agree Martin. Fantastic end to a fantastic season! Steven Moffatt - I salute you! Now that's a way to wrap up a season! Counting the days til next season already - and even more so having heard the teasers from Steven in this week's Confidential. Looking forward to reviews and impressions from everyone, when everyone's had the chance to watch the whole season. Enjoy!
-
Great season finale, loved it. Can't wait till the next one! Matt Smith is brilliant.
-
For UK viewers: The BBC is running TV trails advertising the whole of this last series is now being hosted on the BBC iPlayer. Don't know how long for, so enjoy them while you can. Martin
-
The last episode was so good! I watched it on iplayer the night before I went to Hyde park as I was out on saturday evening so I missed it. Was really good! can't wait for the next series!

Has anyone else heard the rumour that Johnny Depp is playing doctor who in a film? and does anyone know if that is actually happening?
-
Haven't heard that one, but the BBC is really going all out to bring the TV series to the USA big-time at the moment so anything is possible. Mean-time, can any-one remind me what I do on Saturday evenings now the series has ended? Martin
-
Had a quick Google of Depp/Who... The googlesensus is that this was just idle speculation completely without substance. Various sites are quoting BBC sources saying there are no plans for a Doctor Who movie - without or without Depp. Martin
-
Thanks Martin! I wasn't sure if it was true or not, someone said Depp was playing the doctor on the radio and I didn't know if this had been confirmed. I've heard loads of rumours about a film. Sounds like that's not happening either.

After falling asleep during episodes two consecutive weeks, unable to watch due to temporary cable loss, and a holiday leaving us with no new episode, I am finally caught up with Doctor Who, anxiously awaiting the final two episodes. Amy's Choice...LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the scenery in this episode! Monmouthshire is sooooo BEAUTIFUL!!! Great to see Amy show emotion upon Rory's death, loved when she hugged him in reality. Cold Blood...Rory: "Amy, I thought I'd lost you." Amy: "What, cause I stepped into the ground? You're so clingy!" Surprised and sad that Rory died. Wonderful episode with regard to morals. Great cliffhanger leaving us with the broken, charred piece of the TARDIS. Vincent and the Doctor...I absolutely LOVED this episode...one of my favorites! Vincent: "I can hear the colors." "I hear the song of your sadness, you've lost someone I think." What a heartbreaking moment when Vincent painted over Irises to illustrate the monster!!! Fantastic when the Doctor looked into the mirror of the species identifier and past incarnations were identified. Vincent's thoughts on sunflowers..."Complex, between living and dying." I like that! Stunningly BEAUTIFUL scene when the Doctor, Amy and Vincent are lying on the ground, holding hands, and looking at Starry Night. "Complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes." Watching this made me feel so good! One of my favorite Doctor Who moments! Loved when Vincent offered Amy marriage and children by the dozen! Taking Vincent to Musee d'Orsay was fabulous...sooooo emotional!!! Tears of joy!!! Wonderful episode...LOVED every minute of this one!!! The Lodger...Another good episode! So funny when the Doctor hands the bag of money to Craig..."Have some rent." Great to see the Van Gogh exhibit advertisement on the refrigerator, very clever! Craig: "Is that a reference from the Archbishop of Canterbury?" The Doctor: "I'm his special favorite." Football number eleven...very cool!!! I found this episode very touching, as I find it sad when men are unable to express their feelings of love for a woman. Often the woman feels the same way, but is waiting for the man to express his feelings first. Never being able to openly express my feelings "first," it was easy for me to identify with both of these characters. I truly felt their pain. Needless to say, I was delighted with the outcome of the story. Loved when Sophie said, "First, let's destroy our friendship completely!" Another great cliffhanger with the crack and Amy finding her ring in the Doctor's pocket! Thoroughly enjoyed this episode! Really looking forward to The Pandorica Opens.

Great to hear things are moving along in the US again. Keep away from the spoilers now, the final two parter is so rewarding seen fresh. Here's one future news item safe to read: http://uk.tv.yahoo.com/news-extra/article/25368/two-new-stars-for-doctor-who.html It doesn't mention or reference recent events. Michael Gambon - Harry Potter's Dumbledore - although his careeer is so much more than just that - appears in the Christmas special. And Welsh songstress Katherine Jenkins apparently. I like the line that this Chrismas special will be the most "Christmassy Christmas special" since the series was revived. My recollection of Xmas specials to date is that they have always nodded to the season already so that teaser is interesting. Martin

Thanks so much for posting the article, Martin. We really look forward to the Christmas specials, this one sounds wonderful! Hopefully we'll be able to see the special during the holiday season within a few days of the UK airing.

Re the Christmas special, showrunner Steven Moffat said: "Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And The Doctor. And a [DELETES SPOILER]. And... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything. "I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April. My neighbours loved it so much they all moved away and set up a website demanding my execution. But I'm fairly sure they did it ironically."
-
I just read an article regarding the Christmas special...looks like this one is going to be outstanding!!! Cannot wait...LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Christmas!!!

I love to watch Doctor Who episodes a second time, as I always notice something that I didn't notice the first time around. Watching The Lodger again last night, I noticed that the engagement photo of Charles and Diana is embossed on the teapot that the Doctor uses as an invalid feeder for Craig. I wonder why this commemorative piece would be used for everyday use?
-
Looks like Matt Smith is off at the end of next year. He will apparently vacate the Dr Who role for a chance of film stardom, mainly in Hollywood. Dr Who chiefs had hoped he would stay on beyond the end of his three year contract. Good. Perhaps now they can find someone who can act and is capable of more than one facial expression. And while their on with it they can shift Amy Pond's limited talent into the dole queue too. If they do these things and ditch the Tele-Tubby daleks and get back to scripts with some depth and meat (or tofu if your that way inclined like meself) to them then I may just like Dr Who again. This series has been purgatory.

I wonder if that was an example of how poor the Doctor is at being 'normal'? The whole episode seemed to highlight how out of touch he is with normal social niceties. Beside the romantic storyline, this 'fish-out-of-water' aspect seemed to be pivotal to the episode. Martin

Thanks so much for your thoughts, Martin. Since noticing the embossed teapot, I've tried placing several different pieces of the puzzle together to link the use of this particular object, but I'm afraid my lack of in-depth knowledge regarding British writers, directors, and actors left me empty-handed with regard to the inside joke. Now that I've read your reply, I believe that you are correct (as always ). When the Doctor is taking breakfast to Craig, he yells, "Craig...Craig...breakfast!" Very softly to himself, he then said, "Normal!" Clearly the teapot is on the breakfast tray at that point, it wasn't grabbed for in the panic of an emergency. I believe your thoughts are a very reasonable explanation.
