Doctor Who

Sad to hear about Peter Moffat - although I never follow the production personnel involved closely it just goes to highlight the length of time this show has been around. As the year goes on the soap opera gossip that follows the series continues. Once again rumour circulates that David Tennant may not return after this latest series - although the break in full production after this series was supposedly to accomodate his plans. Also stories circulate about assistants, certainly Freyma (Martha) is not fully involved with the next series although returns later in the series. Catherine Tate capitalises on her success in the last Christmas special and returns as The Doctors main assistant from the off in the new series. A new name has also entered the fray with the songstress Lily Allen being rumoured to be in early talks for the series after next. Whatever, whoever, it's all fascinating stuff..... Martin
Wow! Lily Allen?! I like her...reminds me of a female Ian Drury, kinda. Probably more in place in Torchwood than Who though. Podgie (I guess I'm just thinking of the third nipple thing) Monkey

There's a special Dr Who "scene" to be aired tonight on BBC 1 as part of the annual Children In Need Telethon broadcast. Apparently it stars the current Dr - David Tennant and Peter Davison - a former Dr Who. Don't know what they mean by "scene" exactly - could be anything from 2 minutes to 30 minutes. Martin
-
You can catch the special Dr Who short story episode that segues neatly into the slot between series here on-line: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/onthenight/article_doctorwho.shtml I won't spoil the story................... Martin PS 8 minutes long.

Lordy Lord News released by the BBC today - not only will Dr Who have Catherine Tate and Freema Agyeman under his feet in the 2008 series but will also get a very popular reunion with the nations sweetheart Rose Tyler played by Billie Piper. Just when and how and for how long remains firmly under wraps. Expect companion cat-fights The new 13 - part series launches around Easter 2008 after a Christmas special starring Kylie Minogue. Lucky chap. Martin

I was happy when I heard that news. I'm sure the story line will be good, I'm sure there will be a reason why this is happening.

The big build-up is on for the Christmas special show: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/ with an ADVENTure calender to browse. And the BBC screened a major preview tailer with extended sequences from the special to break the news that it'll screen Christmas Day at 6.50 PM. Hopefully that trailer will be on that web-site somewhere. Yes it is: It's item 14 on the ADVENTure calender. I see the Doctor and Kylie recreate the Titanic "prow moment" famously from the disaster movie starring Leonardo DeCaprio and Kate Winselett Martin
-
The build up continues - a new teaser trail this morning: www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho item 16 on the ADVENTure calender: Kylie - "You look good for 903." Doctor - "You should see me in the morning" Kylie - "Okay" "Teaser" trail in every sense Martin

Well I've had my Dr Who "fix" for the season. An epic disaster movie up to the usual high standard expected from the Dr Who team. Not sure what to make of the Doctor - Astrid encounter certainly didn't feel the meeting or character scripting had the impact that the Catherine Tate "Runaway Bride" character Donna from last years Christmas special did on me last year. Donna really won me over last year, which surprised me as I don't particularly like her comedic creations of her own TV series. I enjoy Kylie, having watched her develop through from her neighbours soap role through to her iconic pop diva creations. I feel that the script writers didn't capture enough "Kylie" essence in the character they developed for her. I shall have to watch it again shortly to firm up my opinions. I did watch the "behind the scenes" programme that followed on BBC3 later that evening and did see more of the Kylie I've come to know "on-set". Martin

Wow! Kylie Minogue and Mr. Bucket...what more could you ask for?! ...and the Titanic too! I enjoyed it! Podgie (man the lifeboats!) Monkey

I was a bit dissapointed with the Christmas special again. I thought the idea behind the story was great, but it seemed to loose itself somehow. I'm not sure if I'm getting fed up with David Tennant or if it's just when Russell T Davis writes the episodes they aren't as good on Dr Who ops: I'm looking forward to Torchwood again starting on the 16th. Fantastic that it's got James Marsters in the first episode I hope we see more of him in other episodes
-
I think the doctor needs to lose the sonic screwdriver for a few episodes
-
Woz I hearing things?......through the drunken haze of a Christmas spent with my increasingly dysfunctional in-laws I could have sworn I heard something strange and i'm not sure I liked it.....have they changed the DW theme tune somewhat adding some 'Ringo on acid' drum beaty-machiney type stuff right through the middle of it? Kylie was good the Xmas.....script was not bad.....cannot wait for the cat fighting trio to descend into DW's life in the new series.....then we've got Jennifer Saunders to look forward to as the new doctor???.....well at least for two or three specials if not for longer.....'bout time we had a female doctor.

The new season of Torchwood - the "adult" spin-off from Doctor Who is now two episodes into it's new season. Last season watched and taped the series before considering if each episode was fit for my kids - both due to it's late weekday screening time and the content. The BBC has clearly got sufficient feedback about the conflict between the Torchwood content and the needs of younger fans that want to see all Dr Who related material, as it is now screening a repeat with moderated content the following night for younger viewers. So the main unedited show goes out at 21.00hrs Wednesday Nights and the edited version for younger viewers on Thursday Nights at 19.00hrs. I have not taken their word for it, I watched both versions of this weeks show and can confirm the gory imagery of the show has been significantly toned down for the earlier screening. Still not for the youngest of children though - let them watch The Sarah Jane Adventures when it returns again. The episode is available on-line for UK viewers through the new all singing all dancing BBCiPlayer - which hosts BBC productions screened in the last 7 days. However take warning, the episode on-line is screened uncut so if your children are exploring that service............... Martin

This series continues to astonish. After the blood and gore of last week we got a touching love story involving the technical expert Toshiko Sato. http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood/sites/team/pages/toshiko_sato.shtml?tab=character Lovely.... Martin

I'm really enjoying the series so far (Esp ep 1 with James Marsters in it )

As the Torchwood series draws to a close (the final two part finale coming up) it's this time of the year again: video link www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho First TV trailer show tonight for the first time. Meanwhile Torchwood has impressed with their usual mix of fun shows and deeply moving programmes. The journey that Gwen has taken has featured prominantly throughout. The last episode "Adrift" is the only episode I've not shown the children even in the edited format as it ran with the traumas and grief associated with "missing persons" I've impatiently watched the "next week" episode each time on BBC3 but because they are not showing the final episode in advance I now have a two week wait for the final show on April 4th. Martin
-
wow how great is this for Beatles Fans that like Doctor who http://www.whoatthecavern.co.uk/ DID ANYONE GO
-
Torchwood has just ended it's current season with a blockbuster of a finale. No details as I don't want to spoil it for others................ ............... but I could do with a few tissues right now Martin

Torchwood is a superb series. John Barrowman is just Brill! However the last episode of series 2 is a real tear jerker. Waiting for series 3. Also David Tennat is just great at The Doctor
