Awoke this morning to news of a mass shooting rampage in last night's Las Vegas country music festival that killed 58 so far, and injured "hundreds." The lone shooter fired from a hotel room overlooking the concerts, had 10 assault rifle machine guns, killed himself. There have been 270 mass shootings in the U.S. in 2017. Machine guns are legal in Nevada. Today, Congress was scheduled to try to pass a bill for silencers on guns, which would add to the danger. The N.R.A. is being "pounded on" on the Net for its silence so far on the worst gun shooting rampage. I asked a local policeman couple weeks ago "Why's there so many guns out there," and he replied, "It's the government." The government allows it. The GOP government pols.

I'm just curious as to what drove this man into a rage and open fire on innocent people he doesn't even know! When I last read on the internet, 58 people were killed and over 500 people were injured! This is terrible!

I wondered what would cause someone to do something like that? Heard he was a high stakes gambler, not sure about that... My heart goes out to all of the families and friends of those who were injured, or who died ð??° They should never release the names or photos of the people who commit crimes like this.

My neighbor tends bar at a local country bar. He was telling me last night that the guy was in conflict with the gambling casino. Which would explain all of the explosives that he had recently bought as well. Was that an alternative plan of his? His father was on the FBI's top 10 most wanted list at one time. I am sure that this influenced his inner character... God Save The Human Race From Acts Of Violence

Actually not true: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/glanton/ct-met-gun-control-chicago-dahleen-glanton-20171003-story.html Oh, and Chicago's murder rate nearly doubled AFTER the Supreme Court overturned the city's handgun ban in 2014. But nice try.

This is a video taken by a female (yes, I thought it was a guy at first too) cab driver during the shooting in Vegas.

Sounds to me that a lot of these people had mental problems already and the fact that they smoked pot was secondary. I'm sure Paul McCartney and Bill Maher would disagree with these findings.

Here's the actual study (which took me a whole minute to find): https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyt.2017.00176/full It was a study of patients who had been institutionalized for mental illness and then discharged. That is, everyone in the study was mentally ill to start with. It's long been established that cannabis can worsen certain types of psychosis -- that's a very different thing than causing normal people to become violent. There is absolutely nothing to see here

This is the Hallmark of fake news. Alcohol is 1,000 times more likely to induce violence. Have you watched any John Wayne Westerns? And, even more so in people who have emotional and perceptual problems

Las Vegas victim's family wants shooter's assets seized http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/07/us/las-vegas-shooting-investigation/index.html As for me, I'm glad for this action - I would hope that his girlfriend would also return the $100,000 for the victims. Whether or not he ever used drugs is too presumptuous without any facts. I agree with many of you that those who become violent after smoking cannabis already had deep problems.

It hurts so bad to read about/see the innocents slain at this "feel good, good time" concert, but they must not ever be forgotten, no matter how much it hurts.

I listened to a Medical Doctor interviewed recently. It seems the shooter had a recent prescription of Diazepam (Valium), a scheduled drug. Combine that with alcohol and you have a potentially horrible concoction. Less commonly, paradoxical side effects can occur, including nervousness, irritability, excitement, worsening of seizures, insomnia, muscle cramps, changes in libido, and in some cases, rage and violence. These adverse reactions are more likely to occur in children, **the elderly, and individuals with a history of drug or alcohol abuse and or aggression.**Diazepam may increase, in some people, the propensity toward self-harming behaviors and, in extreme cases, may provoke suicidal tendencies or acts. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Yes, Congress did repeal a rule that made it harder for people with mental illness to buy a gun https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/2/3/14496774/congress-guns-mental-illness In February, President Donald Trump and Congress enacted a law that blocked a last-minute regulation from former President Barack Obama's administration that required the Social Security Administration to disclose to the FBI information about people who are getting disability benefits due to severe mental illness. The rule was meant to make it a bit easier for the FBI to flag those with severe mental illness while doing a background check on a firearm purchase.
