Yeah, I don't write songs, though I do have some poems that could be songs. I've just never pursued it. So, I doubt if my work is on anyone's radar

Under the radar is the best place to be. Once the record companies or publishers or any giant corporation decides they own your work, you can either play their game in an endless grab for more and more money, or refuse to sell your soul and get blacklisted by all the major labels. I don't know anything about being a poet, but I bet it's great that no one expects a poem to sell a billion copies. If you write a song and it's a hit, they all want the blood from a clone.

Most poets do not expect to ever make a living at it. Even the famous contemporary poets.

True. Had to be blue. My husband thinks purple IS blue. He can't see purple.
