The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars
-
I woke up early as usual to go to work... I look and see this awesome looking Moon ... Low in the sky... By perspective it looked huge ... Bold and great... The sky was clear ... What a way to start the day ... I could see it through some of my drive .... Wanting to see more ... It got lower and more faint in It's bold features and became part Of the sunrise ... It was time to go in to start the work day with a grin inside of seeing Such a beautiful happening

I watched it last night too! And, took pictures of it as well. Had to wait for small patchy clouds to slowly drift by although, but it was neat to watch in the process. Am not sure about the colors, but know that it is called a blue moon because it is the second full moon in the same month. It won't happen again for another 2 years or so. We also had rain just before dawn. It was the kind of lightning that stays in the clouds and discharges horizontally although, and makes a continuous low rumble and excellent light show...Very cool!

I know they're working on the problem... I'm going there in a couple of years when my girlfriends kids are older... Looking forward to going there with someone who speaks Chinese! So many great things there!
什麼樣的中文語?

I watched the blue moon at night at the beginning of the 31st and then again at night at the end of the 31st with the daytime in between! So, I saw the blue moon at 2 different times on the same date. Which made me wonder, at what point in this time frame and for what duration was the moon actually full?

Well here in NJ the Blue Moon started at July 31, 2015 - 06:43 am (EDT) and then it would go until Midnight of the 31st I presume, because after Midnight it's Aug 1 It was a beautiful moon, I did see the moon playing hide and seek in the clouds, it was really cool!

I'll have to ask her! I tried to learn it, but by changing one sound I would say something totally different I guess you have to live there for a while...

The Dark Side of the Moon these million mile away photos have been great! http://cdnph.upi.com/sv/b/i/UPI-5051438797672/2015/1/14388004317638/NASA-video-shows-far-side-of-the-moon-pass-in-front-of-Earth.jpg

That was cool to see on the news last night! "I'll see you on the dark side of the moon."
-
Strange spots on Ceres....A four mile high mountain, with one side very bright! Like a beacon almost?

It's always better if you're surrounded by the language you're trying to learn.

If you watch The Wizard of Oz while looking at those pictures, it's really cool, man.

I found a paper last night where I had taken the stats of the solar system and tried to put them into a perspective where I could more easily envision it's dimensions. The pics we see don't really represent the actual view. It would be hard to put it in a picture form. If the Sun were 125 feet tall...Pluto would be 100 miles away and 2.5 inches tall. Here are the other planets as we move outward from a 12 and a half story tall Sun... Mercury...1 mile away and 5.25 inches tall Venus...1.8 miles away and 13 inches tall Earth...2.6 miles away and 13.75 inches tall Mars...3.9 miles away and 7.3 inches tall Jupiter...13.25 miles away and 12.8 feet tall Saturn...24.25 miles away and 10.9 feet tall Uranus...48.8 miles away and 4.63 feet tall Neptune...76.5 miles away and 4.65 feet tall Pluto...100.33 miles away and 2.47 inches tall Seems like they've done something similar along the interstate somewhere.

^Some great statistics to put things into perspective!! I wish I could remember the name of the IMAX in London a few years ago, it started in our solar system then it backed out further and further till. I remember mind boggling galaxies! It was a great one!

They had something like that at APOD that started at the super micro and then backed out to the super macro. Will try to find it. Here's one but not the best one I've seen...but pretty cool! http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap150324.html

It was clear and cool night ..... The stars seemed to pop more boldly than I have seen in a long time. Meteor showers in a few days ... I donno if it will stay this clear .... It was a great night to look up and take it all in

The power of exponentials! Peoples don't realize earthquake scales are exponential as well...That was pretty good and similar to the IMax, which extended out even further! Looking forward to the Perseids Meteor shower as well, hope it's good viewing weather. Going down to the beach!

Yes L2t! Every whole increment is 10 times more powerful than the previous. That bottom picture Hailey is a great visual representation of the relative sizes of the Sun and planets!
