Windows 10

LCH:
Good God ! Operating systems (like Windows 10) are our friends. The same devils that bring it to you are the ones that brought you the earlier, less advanced versions you seem to prefer. : I have it installed on ALL my systems and I never had to buy it because for almost a year, Microsoft did the unprecedented and offered free upgrades to anyone already running licensed previous OS's. I am a Windows "insider" and have chosen to receive aggressive "pre-release" updates, which Microsoft warns may cause certain problems...but I see problems as newborn solutions. Each update they release for Windows 10 is a complete redo of the entire operating system, not just bug fixes and the like. New feature sets are included often, and I just got an email about the upcoming Fall "Creators Update". I LOVE Windows 10. I really do. Don't be afraid...walk into the light...
Hello LCH! How are you? Thank you for your comment. I am glad that everything worked out for you with Windows 10! For you being an insider, you already knew everything that had to be done to get Windows 10 properly. Unfortunately, there were many consumers that were not as lucky as you to acquire Windows 10. For example, why didn't Microsoft tell the consumers that in order to go from Windows 7 to Windows 10, that you have to purchase both Windows 8 and 8.1 in order to get a proper installation of Windows 10? Microsoft DID NOT do their job properly in making sure that people were able to get Windows 10! I hated Windows 10 and I always will! I will stick with Windows 7, that is the best operating system in my opinion. Thank you for your comment.

As a side note to the above - I went from Windows 7 to 10 without having to Buy 8 or above for the Online download. I may have had to check for a patch - If I even had to do that . It went smooth. I use it casually - Can use everything that I used to The only problem k did have was not being able to use my scanner - not even With a third party software fix.

Hi The_Fool! How are you? Thank you for your honesty and comment. I was told by someone at Microsoft that you had to purchase Windows 8 and 8.1 in order to get a proper installation of Windows 10! If you installed Windows 10 without installing Windows 8 and 8.1, you're going to have a lot of problems. I hope everything does work out for you The_Fool, please keep me informed. Take care.

I'm sorry to disagree but that simply isn't accurate. I own a Windows 7 DVD, and I can install that on a brand new machine I build, and then using the Windows 10 media I created (using their instructions) I install Windows 10. Remember, as I posted, it was free for a long while (the upgrade), but now it's not. When I made a disc with the free download on it I guess I made a time machine. Again, you DON"T have to buy intermediate versions to upgrade. If you already own 8, fine. That will work as well.

That is accurate, I spoke to someone from Microsoft! I was told by someone from Microsoft that it is necessary to have Windows 8 and 8.1 installed in your computer in order to get a proper installation of Windows 10. If you have Windows 7 installed in your computer, you need to have Windows 8 and 8.1 installed in your computer before you can get a proper installation of Windows 10. A perfect example, in order to get Internet Explorer 11, you need to get all of the other Internet Explorers installed in your computer before you can get a proper installation of Internet Explorer 11. Its the same way with Windows 10.

If you read my post, I stated that I upgraded DIRECTLY from Windows 7. I own Windows 8, but I don't have it installed on ANY of my machines that have ALL been upgraded very successfully to Windows 10. When I write upgraded from Windows 7 I mean I had an empty hard drive installed on which I placed Windows 7, and then upgraded directly to Windows 10. Also, on the Microsoft Support pages it speaks of "going back" to EITHER 7 or 8 if you're not happy with 10... The fact that I went from 7 to 10 is not opinion, it's what I did. It seems that there might be a loophole to still get the upgrade for free (if you do a google search) , though officially Microsoft says the free ride is over.

Hi LCH! How are you? If you upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 successfully, with no problems, you are the only one that has ever done it! I do not know of ANYONE that has done a proper installation from Windows 7 to Windows 10 successfully and I know a lot of people! I know of people (A lot of people) that did an installation from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and it worked for a while. But eventually, Windows 10 broke down and they all went back to Windows 7. I know you read all of the horror stories about all of the problems people had trying to do an installation from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It was a disaster! It took people a long time before they finally found out that you have to install Windows 8 and 8.1 in order to get a proper installation of Windows 10! I know of many people that installed Windows 8 and 8.1, then installed Windows 10. These people are not having any problems with Windows 10 at all. Personally, for me, if I'm going to get Windows 10, I'd rather buy a new computer with Windows 10 pre-installed. One of the reasons why it didn't work for me is because I had to much memory! I have 24 Gigs of memory, 24 Gigs is too much for Windows 10. My computer works fine with Windows 7, and it moves fast too! LCH, is it true that Microsoft is going to come out with a new operating system despite Microsoft saying that Windows 10 was going to be the last? I heard that Windows 10 was not the huge success that Microsoft had hoped for. I hope that Microsoft does come out wit a better operating system than Windows 10, Windows 10 caused too many problems and heartaches. You seem to know your computers well LCH, I'm looking forward to conversing with you more about computers. Take care.

I'm not aware of any planned new operating system from Microsoft, but I have read things that make me think that Windows 10 is here to stay for now. I recently got an email from them entitled "Preview Windows 10 Fall Creators Update". Fall - as in the season after summer. I can't say for sure how many updates I've gotten to my original 10 installation, but sometimes it seems weekly. I like this. They ask for feedback every time they issue a new one. Microsoft states that this is the first operating system to have been designed and then evolved by user input. There is something called the Feedback Hub where you can read the good the bad and the ugly responses from users to each new version.

Hi LCH! By the way, welcome back to the forum! I'm just coming back myself after working 3 months of 12 hour days and nights of mandatory overtime! Its great to be back. I figure Windows 10 is here to stay for a while but I've read that Windows 10 is not going to be the last operating system according to Microsoft. I went through the whole ordeal of removing all of the Windows 10 updates from Windows update! That came with problems also. There have been horror stories for every single operating system Microsoft has ever released. You're always going to have positive and negative responses from consumers. Its good hearing from you LCH, take care.

I used the online upgrade from Windows 7. It is 10 to 11 months probably. It has been working fine. A very easy adjustment with some small amounts of exploring. I don't use too many of the options they have, by my choice not theirs. There was a recent update they did that has caused a slight bit longer to restart or boot up - not that big of a problem. The company that I work for is going to change over to Windows 10. They intend to use the features provided. There will be some additional training that Will be provided. Once I use more Of it - I will likely continue with my home Computer. Enjoy - if you do use it or take it on.

My recent update has caused mine to be slower too. The Best Buy guy had it set up so I didn't have to sign in...nott anymore. If I leave the computer for 3 minutes I have to sign back in. I guess I need to find out how to change this.

Start/settings/users and accounts/sign-in options/change Enter password, click next under "change your password", leave blank click next/finish
