The one guy said you should know Computer history... I did assembly language and machine language - You could enter something a mile long ... It was unforgiving if you made a mistake - you had to type the whole thing over. The beginnings Of programming. ( it was required for classes - even when computers advanced). Then I did the DOS ... Typed in the Whole address, file name, which drive, Which disk, name of the sub folders Blah blah blah .... It made you Appreciate (GUIs) ... Graphic User Interface - where you click on The ICON and there is what you want (or close - a few more clicks). While some of it was a pain in the ASCII .... The guts of the beginning was good To know ... And you Appreciate finding things With a few clicks And languages that are getting closer to how you might think and talk Compared to a bunch of squiggly Strange symbols.

More of me ... Sorry about that There was a time when I thought why should I get a computer? I can use the ones at work Or go to the library if I ever Need anything. Computer companies such as IBM also bet on making Their computers for business Places and not the individual or personal computer. Okay I am done for now.
-
I was taught Basic in college. In grad school, I don't remember the language but we worked in teams and had to take the project to the computer lab to have it converted to the IBM cards.

I partied so much in college that I had a four year blackout! However, I graduated with a 3.4 grade average!

However, Basic is useless now and I think it was Fortran that we had to take to the computer lab. Fortran was not offered where I went to get my BA. Luckily, a TA at the computer lab helped me with assignments in grad school.

Have you heard the saying "There are times when we have to go back to the basics in order to relearn all of the fundamentals that are vital in today's advanced technology?" There are times when many of my fellow co-workers have to relearn the basics in order to get a better understanding of the advanced technology we utilize today.

Here's something for memories and/or fun .... TEENS REACT TO WINDOWS 95
Poor kids, huh? :
It would be interesting to have a day or even a week to see how long one can get along without cell phones and internet. Probably very few would volunteer even for a few hours. But that's the way it was 30 or more years ago.

When kids get grounded or spanked today, they can care less! However, take away their cell phones or the internet, that will hurt them deeply!

I believe that is why I learned old, Outdated, not used, rarely used and or used but now there is an Easier way programs and Language - To know where things came from and to revisit them when Needed. I used to hear someone say: We don't have to reinvent the wheel. Some want to throw everything Away ... Only to face the problems that were already solved. And then you stand on the shoulders of giants and build on that.

Its just too bad that the majority of businesses in today's world have forgotten the basics an fundamentals that helped build the advanced technology as we know today. Which now brings us to Windows 10! I truly believe that Microsoft could have made Windows 10 better. Instead, Microsoft would rather release an operating system that already had flaws (Remember Windows Vista) and would rather have people spend more money on Microsoft or other products/software just to fix the problems Windows 10 already had before it was released. What do you think?

* Based on very limited samples: I have been at a few work places that Did similar things; Create a firm deadline to launch a product - To get it market before anyone else. Now the pressure is on to meet the deadline ... Problems and debugging like crazy .... I have seen people given Ultimatums - get it working Or you are gone. People working Long hours... Last minute fixes. To finally taking a mostly working something and creating a buzz about It and promises to support it - Microsoft knows it can "patch" it And update it all the time. They look at getting it out there And if done right - might take A few years ... They aren't willing to wait.... Risk and reward ... Very narrow view. Just the way that I have seen while Product research and development Moves things to a sellable product.

Makes a lot of sense The_Fool! What I hate about Microsoft's patchs, service packs and updates is that sometimes none of them work which results in your computer getting worse or freezes up! What I have to do is go into Windows Update and find the update. After I find the update, I will then remove it. That will usually take care of the problem, sometimes!

I've gotten rid of the colored screen & with a few changes based on your instructions Hailey, I no longer need to sign in every 3 minutes. But I do still need to sign in upon start up.
Windows + R/type "netplwiz"/ok the User Accounts window should open in the Users tab, uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"/ok

Hi LITTLE LAURA! How are you? I've been wanting to meet you for a while, welcome back to the forum. I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with Windows 10! Unfortunately, there are millions of consumers that share your same views! Windows 10 did not become the big success that Microsoft had hoped, I for see another operating system coming out by Microsoft sometime in the future. Hopefully, Microsoft will get it right this time. Just hang in there LITTLE LAURA, everyone here on the forum is counting on you to keep yourself in good health. Take care.
