I downloaded Windows 10, and immediately it screwed up all my files. (I had to look up which version I had ops: , which is 7). My nephew had to undo it and bring back my windows 7. ops: ops: He said "next time you get a bright idea-----DON'T!" SIGH... :
Hi LITTLE LAURA! How are you? I've been wanting to meet you for a while, welcome back to the forum. I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with Windows 10! Unfortunately, there are millions of consumers that share your same views! Windows 10 did not become the big success that Microsoft had hoped, I for see another operating system coming out by Microsoft sometime in the future. Hopefully, Microsoft will get it right this time. Just hang in there LITTLE LAURA, everyone here on the forum is counting on you to keep yourself in good health. Take care.
Thank you. How sweet. I will try.
You're very welcome LITTLE LAURA. You just keep trying and don't give up.

WOO! It worked Thanks Hailey I thought you said that you don't have W10. How did you know this? Google? Whatever it was thanks very much!
You're welcome. The network places wizard isn't unique to Windows 10. It's been around since Vista or XP.

I believe you have to bring your system up to Win.8 or 8.1 first. No doubt there are some Techs that would do it for free. The trouble is finding them.

I heard on a computer repair talk show Sunday morning that the windows 10 updates are not always downloaded cleanly and that these people have to make program patches to fix the anomalies.
-
My first real complaint and it is a big deal to me. The download from Online was smooth and easy. Things seemed to be going fine. Recently they did one of their updates / Patches. I used it as usual - a little Slower, but I can live with that. Now: I went to do something in Microsoft Office... It is Gone! I clicked on Word, Excel etc... They want a product key. This was installed some time ago by someone else. I don't have a Product key. I went to the Microsoft Site and see others with the same Problem - many students don't have Their product keys. I am not going to buy it again. Because they ticked me off - I went with a "Cloud" program That is not Microsoft. Reading up on it - they knew about The update patch doing this - And Microsoft decided not to fix Their own patch - just let the chips Fall where they fell. No warning - Later they said casually that all you Have to do is uninstall office and Then reinstall it. So I am not using their Office Product. It is a matter of principle, It irritated me. And they knew it ahead of time.
-
I don't use Office but goodness! That sucks. Everyone thinks it's so easy to uninstall & re-install. Hey! I don't have this kind of time & inevitably there will be a problem & I won't know what to do. Or a dialogue box will come up & say that it's a problem & can't be fixed -ok?- you have no choice.

^^ Like the Windows - CIA/FBI I feel you pain ... (no relation to Billy) I admit, I sprung for a 2016 Windows Office - Home & Student (not too long ago). My last Home & Student was a bit too old for Microsoft. I ran into similar situations as you. In my opinion, Home & Student is a much better deal than Office 365 (without a lot of use).

If you have Windows 7 like I do, you need to install Windows 8 and 8.1 before you can install Windows 10! Microsoft should have told everyone that is using the Windows 7 operating system that they need to install Windows 8 and 8.1 first before they install Windows 10. But Microsoft chose not to tell everybody and that's what caused so much problems!

True! There is a problem with Windows Update in Windows 10.

Another horror of Windows 10! Its either a compatibility issue, Windows Update or BOTH!

I understand that if you uninstall than reinstall in Windows 10, it gets worse!

I heard the same thing, that Home & Student is much better than Office 365.

Once more I'll simply say that I can install Windows SEVEN on an empty, brand new hard drive. After that, I can install a saved download (which I did quite some time ago and SAVED when I heard that Windows 10 would not be available FREE forever.) and then install Windows 10 on that very same hard drive. If your Windows 7 DVD is authentic and you have a legitimate product key, the subsequent installation of Windows 10 will automatically also be authenticated and ACTIVATED. These are facts, and I tire of reading misinformation stating that higher versions are required to upgrade to Windows 10. I believe that I can do all of the above when ever I need to, since I plan to build another computer at a future date. Finally, al Windows 10 versions are not created equal. I get frequent updates of the ENTIRE operating system because I choose to. You can choose how updates are done...I'm not afraid of "buggy" versions. I love a challenge.

Hi LCH! How are you? Long time no hear. Thank you for the input. My Windows 7 came preinstalled on my computer, my Windows 7 didn't come with a disc. Is there a way to get around this?
-
Unfortunately, many PC's are sold without the operating system software (on an actual disc). Without an authentic Windows Installation disc of 7 or higher, the Windows 10 upgrade solution I described is not applicable. Obviously Microsoft is a business with profit motives, shareholders and all that comes with that. They have been combatting piracy of their software for some time with the online activation feature wherein you enter a product key. To do that, obviously you must purchase their product first. For computers that have the operating system pre-installed when purchased, the manufacturer normally offers a backup utility that allows restoration of all originally installed features.
-
Good to see you, LCH. My Windows 7 computer died so I now have a Windows 10 computer. I have yet to be able to figure out how to do the operating system back up. I was able to move Office from the dead computer to the new computer so I didn't have to buy it again.

That's what I thought, its better to buy the disc and do a clean install yourself like you're doing. Sh*t! Thanks.
