How Does Your Garden Grow?
-
It's been too cold and wet to plant. I just moved to this house last summer and I need beds done before I can plant.
-
Our kid gave me 2 huge hanging baskets of pink gloxinias for Mum's Day, which I have on the shepherd's hook in front of our house. Soon we'll be planting sunflowers & one of my sil gave me some pussywillows that she rooted & those will also ge planted.

Jeremy, hope you were eventually able to spend some time in your garden. Wendy, I had a terrible problem with Aphids when I first planted roses. Roses being my favorite, I was determined that I would not give up on having a rose garden. I turned to one of our local farms for advice. A farmer there told me to come back in two days. When I returned, he gave me an envelope filled with Lady Bugs. He instructed me to take the insects out of the envelope by hand, and place several on each plant, one by one. He said I would never have a problem with Aphids again...He was right!

I am ready to bonk my DH with a pan! I discovered today, while I was admiring all his hard work landscaping the front of our house that he also dug up not one but four of my mums that were starting to come back to life! I didn't know if I should scream or cry. Instead, I very calmly informed him that he owes me 4 new mum plants. He apologized profusely but I am not a happy camper right now.

What a good solution, Triplets! I'm surprised it would work so well, we do have ladybird wild around here, you'd think they'd go to the plant themselves. You're making me want to try roses again, and try it out. Not this year, but when I can plan and do it right. I enjoy the wild pussywillows, I must remember to cut some when they're soft. I was told to try sticks in the garden beds to keep the cats from digging, it does help.

Probably some time next month, we'll be adding another rosebush to our garden. Next year, we're going to start planting climbing roses on a trellis.

that is Benny he's my 9 year old doxie. He looking at a fake doxie a friend gave me which was kind of creepy, reminded me of Chucky, so i put it in the garden and it looks a lot less evil sounded by flowers.

didn't the little stick say? Prolly 65 days. Haven't bought mine yet.

My sister gave me that one, so I didn't get the little stick.
-
Planted some beans yesterday, and going to plant some flowers after dinner. Still waiting on tomatoes and corn.

I hope this works for you, Wendy! Good luck!

We will begin working on the beds in about a half hour. Can't wait to get the planting done. I sound like a farmer.

A little tip for all rose lovers. If you plant marigolds, it'll help keep japanese beetles away. They hate the spicy scent of marigolds. Also, search for Roses Love Garlic - garlic helps keeps fungus away from roses.
-
Got two beds made today and planted salvia, marigolds and tomatoes. Going to sow some seeds tomorrow in a box planter.

Spent a lot of time gardenign this afternoon. White petunias in planters, fuschia in another planter, orange dahlias, giant yellow marigolds in some of the flower boxes. Hubby started planting our veggie garde - tomatoes, pumpkins, gourds, orgeano & catmint. He also planted some orange cosmos flowers & some mixed wild flowers in a couple of huge pots. Tomorrow we're going to get basil to add to our garden.
