A sitcom on MSNBC would have ten times the newsworthiness of a FOX NEWS report.
This piece that you posted is a bunch of drivel. Is this suppose to be a NEWS station? Looks like a propaganda machine for the current administration. Journalism and true straight on reporting sure has died.
She is a progressive commentator. She is not a hard news reporter, and therefore, not bound by the doctrine of objectivity. Same with Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh -- except they're racist, sexist, homophobic ass-wipes (aka: "conservatives").

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow's comments on what we have now avoided, due to Obama's re-election. It still gives me chills: (1) ?We are not going to have a Supreme Court that will overturn Roe vs. Wade. There will be no more Antonin Scalias and Samuel Alitos added to this court.? (2) ?We?re not going to repeal health reform. Nobody?s going to kill Medicare and make old people in this generation ? or any other generation ? fight it out on the open market to try to get themselves health insurance. We?re not going to do that.? (3) ?We?re not going to give the 20% tax cut to millionaires and billionaires, and expect [cutting] programs like food stamps and kids? health insurance to cover that tax cut.? (4) ?We?re not going to make you clear it with your boss if you want to get birth control with the insurance plan that you?re on.? (5) ?We are not going to redefine rape.? (6) ?We are not going to amend the constitution to stop gay people from getting married.? (7) We?re not going to double down on Guantanamo. ( ?We?re not eliminating the Department of Energy, the Department of Education, or Housing at the Federal level.? (9) ?We are not going to spend two trillion dollars on the military, that the military does not want.? (10) ?We are not scaling back on student loans because the country?s NEW plan is that you should borrow money from your parents.? (11) ?We are not vetoing the Dream Act, we are not ?self-deporting.?? Every single one of those issues were gravely possible, which is why I was terrified of a "severely conservative" Romney Presidency. You need to re-watch the Republican primaries.

A fact is a fact it is not someone's idea of a fact. I know that repubs are not fact based...that was a fact proven in the election. The repubs campaign was based on lies the repub base is severely suckered. its's sad and a pity. Just tell me which of the statements above is not true.

Saying "most of these are "ifs"..." betrays a conservative slant. If you were truly being objective, something that I'm just assuming you are striving for in your critique, your only true objection should be that these facts are presented in a manner antagonistic to conservatives, because no one will dispute that it is a tad snarky. But anyone with eyes and ears attuned to the key cogs in the GOP would note that Maddow's list covers a gamut of issues and ideas bandied about by conservatives from the primaries on. I suppose you could challenge their standing as facts by claiming that they were never actual issues, just talking points for conservative politicians looking to pander to the base, but your school-yard level 'is this a sitcom?' taunt demonstrates that such a nuanced take would be out of your reach.

Maddow's remarks are facts. To state otherwise is to dismiss the fact of the election result.

Okey, maybe I'm going to say some controversial things, but what isn't controversial here? The Liberals don't like the Conservatives and viceversa, to sum it up. If you a liberal imagine that you could have born a conservative, and viceversa, if you're traditional you could have been born a progressist. Half of our personatily is inborn and pure genetics, then there's the environment, like the family and local culture... and then there's room for everyone to sort of shape oneself. But you can't fully transform yourself, just like I'll never play basketball like Michael Jordan... Ok, so, some part don't like the other, but that could have been you.

Good news for America! Despite Hurricane Sandy, the U.S. unemployment rate FELL from 7.9% to 7.7%. 146,000 private-sector jobs were added in November.

American political discussions are so divisive that I think it may be too difficult for many to see the other side's point of view. Democrats think their party can do no wrong and Republicans are bad people. Republicans think their party can do no wrong and Democrats are delusional. I am not sure if the issue of nurture versus nature has all that much to do with this. Blindly following Fox or MSNBC, neither of which has much to do with journalism, is learned behavior. There is probably a great deal of our political opinions that is innate, but it almost becomes a moot point when dealing with American politics.

Democrats have criticized their own* at a significantly higher rate than the GOP. Hell, the differences between the "Blue-Dog Democrats" in the Senate and liberal Democrats like Dennis Kucinich and Alan Grayson demonstrate that. There are some not-so-great Dems out there. And there are some good Republicans out there. However, the reason they have such a bad name is because of maneuvers like this: Mitch McConnell's own debt ceiling bill gets filibustered by Mitch McConnell: http://www.examiner.com/article/mitch-mcconnell-s-own-debt-ceiling-bill-gets-filibustered-by-mitch-mcconnell Pathetic. And this was just yesterday. And I'm sure you heard about the disgraceful treatment Bob Dole got in the House the other day, right? *(cough-cough-Anthony-Weiner-cough-cough-John-Edwards)

I watch all the news outlets. CNN is neutral. MSNBC leans very left, and FOX NEWS is the mouthpiece for the right. MSNBC's evening programs are clearly liberal, but their positions are based on facts; they just take it a step further and comment on it. And we know for a fact that FOX NEWS has deliberately fabricated news, deliberately under-reported data, used footage from certain events to represent totally unrelated events. This is why that study from earlier this year proved that regular FOX NEWS viewers are less informed on the issues than those who watched no news at all. This is why 50% of Republican voters think that ACORN -- which has been defunct for a few years now -- stole the 2012 election for Obama. Not the 2008 election...2012! Now, you can play the role of impartial observer if you wanna, but in my world: If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a damn duck.

It is probably easier for people like Oliver and I to be impartial observers. If Republicans destroy a law written by Republicans like Bob Dole and signed by Republicans like George Bush, it will not affect the laws in our nations. However, one cannot deny that almost any political conversation online has more hyperbole than a Michael Moore film.

This is a good example. Republicans attack these people when there are scandals and ignore the scandals of their own party, just as Democrats attack scandals of Republicans and ignore their own. Truth be told, I do not remember the Anthony Weiner scandal, but there is currently a politician named Scott Wiener in San Francisco who is making a name for himself by attacking the gay community.

Hyperbole or deafening silence, I know this: Democrats act. Republicans obstruct. Well, Republicans used to: They're finally starting to see the light. They know the jig is up.

Political opinions themselves are not innate but personality traits are half innate and half nurture or so. And our personality then makes us have certain political opinions... like "I like what the dems/NBC say or I like what the reps/Fox say". You know, even there's a stark difference depending on the state of the USA. The "ways" of that state are kind of naturally (even if we go back 2 centuries...) traditional or not. You know, the chances of someone born in New York or being a dem are not the same as the ones of someone born in Texas. And that doesn't depend on you.

Since you first asked your question Ollie there have been no replies as to what works and what doesn't work. It doesn't matter if one calls themselves a Dem, a repub or a duck. The policies that they promote need to work. They need to work for the individual and for their country. That is why I'm a democrat. Their policies work. Easy to research just look at which party in US has had better employment, lower deficits, more equality in the modern age. There is no contest the Dems win by a landslide. Even in modern comparisons for instance, the republican/conservative economic policies of deregulation, low or no taxes for the wealthy and corporations have been a disaster. Just need to look at the for profit US health care system where(before Obamacare) people could go bankrupt if they or a family member became sick. If they did get sick and had insurance and were dropped they could not get ANY because they had a preexisting condition...scandalous. And how about the financial crisis triggered by repub/conservative policies? And just ask the EU how austerity is working for them. The republican party in the US has been obstructing any mitigation of climate change for 30+ years. The world has the US republicans to thank for a probable dangerous future for their children & grandchildren. That does not work. their squeeze of government finances and privitization of services has been a disaster for our schools, our food system, our prison system etc, etc. etc. The republican policies DO NOT WORK. That's the best reason to choose not to support them. Easy to make a decision using the criteria of what works and what doesn't work. Indeed , there should be no other method. It's not an innate trait just use your reasoning skills.
