The 2012 and beyond Political Thread - Part 2

Why can't the news be filled with all of the good things and good people in this world, there are more of those people than evil. Yet promoting all the evil seems to be causing people think that they need to hit before they get hit themselves. We have too many negative role models and reality shows that glorify negative and mean behavior towards others.
Good news is not what sells. The people want to hear about death and violence. The reporters win awards for stories about death and violence. The largest corporations in the world make money from death and violence. Look at the top news stories of the 20th century. War, death, exploration and discovery. Look at the top news stories of the 21st century. War and death. Our technology has improved, but our desire to explore the world beyond our telephones has somehow become unimportant.

^ It is part of the non-constructive "world philosophy" that was defined centuries upon centuries ago.

From listenin to people who had been in Jerusalem the give a slightly different account than the media does. They see the Hamas shooting rockets at them every day and the Isralies are firing back in selfireing back. Now as with other accounts as goings on there is beginning to be a rise of anti semitisim around the globe. I am concerned about that. Neverthe less when it comes to it I will stand by my faith and the Jewish people which are my people. love doris

I can really relate with the issue of the telephones... you go out and everyone is looking at their phone! Not everywhere do they want to hear about death and violence. That is a learned response. Babies and children are for the most part happy and we keep bad things from them to keep them happier longer. When we didn't have instant communication people got together and shared information. There was a need to be part of the community, because you had to rely on each other more. It paid to stay neighborly and people helped each other more often. In Hawaii, on the news, there is a lot of good news, local news about little league games, local community events, the surf report and other good news items that are so good to hear. Things could turn around, it is all about how people are actually being manipulated by the media. I've stopped watching the news because there are so many things that I cannot change and it walks me down a road of hopelessness. I do read the news and especially BBC which I feel is less slanted. I try to focus on local things where I maybe can make an impact. There are things such as natural disasters where people do pull together. That is really human nature. I was affected by Hurricane Sandy and people came from all over the country and stayed here many months to help rebuild. I wish those unknown heroes were in the magazines and on the news and they were to an extent.... I wish I knew how to change things, but I think reaching out on a personal level is not giving in to the negativity. I am aware that there are a lot of other people besides myself who want things to get better and I'm staying in that sphere. We can't give up... who wants to hand a broken world filled with death and violence to their children? We need more music for one thing... that makes people happy!

They're partly right in reporting that it's Hamas who's initiating the conflict and subsequent breakdown of cease fires...However, where it becomes complicated is in the fact that the Hamas weapons are hardly effective and can be managed by Israel by simply picking them off as they approach...Also (partly due to that last point), there is a huge disparity between the number of civilian casualties between the Israelis and the Palestinians (the military power of the Israelis is far superior to the Hamas and this is kind of an akin to a violent minded 5 year old child trying to pick a fight with Mike Tyson, only with many other lives on the line)...I fully support Israel's right to defend itself, but also believe there must've been a smarter way that could've spared a lot of innocent lives...But in saying that, it must be noted that the Hamas are using civilians (mostly women and children) as human shields as they lob their garbage over to Israel

I always wondered...for all of the money spent on war and military. Couldn't the just give everyone a house, car, food and a four day work week. Would people except that alternative over fighting? Something like an incentive program. I know it sounds a bit mad, but wouldn't it be nice to not have fighting in your neighborhood, and not to have to worry about your children? Would you choose to have the house car and food neighborhood, or would you choose to live in the fighting each other neighborhood? A bit simplistic, I know...but with the money spent....surely there could be better incentives.

We spend billions on building other countries while America's children starve. We subsidize oil companies -- despite RECORD profits -- while America's children starve. We cut social programs that are less than 1% of the federal budget while America's children starve. We have politicians who are working with The Koch Brothers to end Medicare and Social Security. It's pretty clear what the REAL agenda is.

It goes even deeper. Do a Google image search for "black people" and there are terribly racist photographs and cartoons directed against black people. Do a Google image search of "white people" and there are terribly racist photographs and cartoons directed against black people.

Having spent a good deal of time in Jerusalem, I can say without question that mass media accounts are misleading to ridiculous.

There probably is a better way to kill people en masse with as little harm to civilians as possible, but what I can never understand is why the people who rally against Israel for killing Palestinians are always silent when Hamas kills Palestinians. Why is Palestinian death only a tragedy when it comes at the hands of Israelis? A murdered child is still murdered regardless.

Winning hearts and minds might work when disputes are over economics and privilege, but how do you win over a group that wants your extinction?

I'll add that -- in America -- the unrelenting denial of racism has been racism's best ally.

Is there any major news agency that says anything otherwise??? Jimmy Carter to Headline Fundraiser for Hamas Front Group http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/Jimmy-Carter-Fundraiser-Hamas/2014/08/28/id/591451/?ns_mail_uid=1502173&ns_mail_job=1583614_08282014&s=al&dkt_nbr=8aair1ak

That was a great cover of...8 days a week! Do you think you could explain the (it's complicated) line to me, audi?

As for "the good book": It's considered the word of God, although God did not literally write it. The Apostles were, basically, a bunch of lawyers. And The New Testament may have actually been written by the Piso Family -- who incorporated all of the Pagans' holidays and many other practices. It's complicated.

Obama just flew over my house. I live 7 miles away from an airport, so he landed at 2 and took off at 5:20. Air Force One is HUGE!! What a rush that was. It'll happen again tomorrow as well
