The 2012 and beyond Political Thread - Part 2

Never heard of these 'super delegates until today....But evidently, despite barely scratching past Bernie Sanders in Iowa and losing to him (badly) in NH, Hillary Clinton actually leads Bernie Sanders by a score of 394 to 42 in delegate counts...From what I understand, the Republican side does not have such a system... As a side note, one thing I'm happy about is people rebelling against big gov't (i.e. big as in power/money - on both sides), even if it means having a socialist as well as a giant pig as the 2 flavors of the moment But then again, we're talking NH, where Vermin Supreme, who's big political promise is to make sure everyone gets a pony as well as a toothbrush, came in 4th on the DEM side....LOL

How is it okay to honor The Black Panther Party at a public event by Beyoncé and the all African American dancers. Read the violent history of The Black Panther Party. But the U.S. Government shoots and kills a 55 year old man Levoy Finnicum for his Freedom of Speech at a bird sanctuary in Oregon, after a planned ambush outside the sanctuary after being surrounded by armed government agents? He was shot 9 times. 9 times. He was someone's husband, Father, grandfather, brother, friend. I think both sides of that spectrum are radical and violent and are hate groups. You can't have it both ways. White or Black or Red or Yellow you cannot advocate violence to achieve equality.
You mean the group that was holed up illegally on Federal land in a bird sanctuary and also messed with sacred Native American artifacts despite the pleas of various groups in Oregon to leave them be? I don't think this group was ambushed. They left their hide out and they were arrested. I believe the man who was killed refused to give himself up, ran and pointed a gun at the arresting feds. Not saying he needed to be shot as many times as he was shot, that was way too much, but this group was hardly innocent. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing we have in this country, but that doesn't mean people can be free from the consequences of their actions and speech if it breaks the law.

I think she will get it and you're right, those mysogenistic Trump lovers/woman haters...will be stampeding on top of of their mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and daughters backs for the chance to smear her every move... It will definitely be worse than the racism since 2008 and a black man as President. A Woman!!! America should take notice that they fall behind the UK with Queen Elizabeth, Margaret Thatcher and Germany, with Chancellor Angela Merkel, India with Indira Gandhi, Israel's Prime Minister, Golda Meir We're not the forward thinking, leadership model country... that we think we are... Something to ponder with women as leaders http://www.jjmccullough.com/charts_rest_female-leaders.php
There are a lot of countries that don't claim to be the greatest thing since donuts where women can get elected and no one thinks twice about it. What you said about mothers and grandmothers is exactly true. I've seen too many men online say that all women are gold diggers and whores, but when you ask them if that includes their mothers, they're offended at the thought.

Those two different versions of the Oregon story are interesting. I haven't heard about it, so when I read the first version, I thought it was ridiculous. Then I read the second version. If that's not a metaphor for American politics, I don't know what is. How many voters only hear the first version of whatever issue people are outraged about?

Yes, that is the group of people I was referring to. Just heard the FBI has been having Rev. Franklin Graham talk to them and help de escalate the situation, and the remainders of the group are going to turn themselves in today hopefully without incident. Well no one was there at the scene of the killing of mr. finicum but law enforcement and the dead man and the other protestors. You don't know what happened, neither do I. But even the FBI says he seemed to "be reaching towards his waistband." Even they do not say he pointed a gun at agents. Either way it doesn't take 9 shots, one to the face to take down one 55 year old white man. Freedom of Speech and whatever else they were doing illegally shouldn't carry the death penalty. If he had been of another race the whole country would be screaming about his death. As far as being associated with the BPP, and supporting Malcolm X, that is blatant racism and if I were to have pulled a stunt like Beyoncé I would be on a terror watch list. Anyone else out there who support that violent mindset and they will be too. I guess there is a patheticly blatant double standard on what entities are classified as hate groups in this country and no one wants to discuss it. This country's land really belongs to the Native American Indians so the whole thing is a lie anyway. Jmho. ️️ Edit: sorry I went on...just would have been nicer if Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had been celebrated instead. Edit 2: the last 4 Oregon protestors surrendered without incident.

Is there any rational reason Obama should not nominate a new Supreme Court justice?

You want rational ? we're talking American politics here... Submitting Donald Trump as a candidate for the President, is the most irrational thing I've ever heard of... :
-
According to the incredibly brilliant REPUBLICANS...Only future and past presidents can make decisions for the sitting president

He can nominate them all day long. That is one of abilities of the President. The Senate (Which has a Republican majority) can deny the nomination all day long ..... etc etc until the new President is sworn in (Which the Republican Senators would hope would be a Republican) .... then The Republican President would nominate the Supreme Court Justice and hope their nominee would get voted in. (Confirmed). If a Democrat wins .... after all the holding out .... eventually the Republicans would have to cave and confirm one of the choices. If they are able to hold off until the election .... there are 8 Justices .... a 4-4 tie would send cases back to the lower court's decision. Mitch McConnell the Speaker will do sound bytes such as "We will vote no".... but is a RINO and will vote for President Obama's choice (Maybe deny the first person put out there just to look like he is taking charge of his party) ..... President Obama will likely push the extremes ... sending a woman, or some ethnic person ..... so that if they are denied .... the party can call the Party Racist and score some political points .... With Mitch McConnell ..... who will do some kind of trade off ....or he gets paid off .... they will likely have someone soon .... The sad thing I saw was that a Supreme Court Justice died .... was not even Cold yet and did not have a service or anything at that time ..... and the talk went out there in minutes ....about a replacement .....

I still voting on a democratic ticket love doris

Such as Fools? Fools would have 100 times the chances of receiving approval with a Democrat than with the very narrow vision of a Republican. The RUMP is a perfect example of no vision.

**if you chop up the words of someone and don't quote them correctly or fully, then it could be made to say what you want it to say... Even if that is not the original intent of those words.** Then Senator Obama went along with John Kerry to Filibuster President George W. Bush's Supreme Court Nominee Samuel Alito ... It happens in Both Party's. Way back the Democrats denied Ronald Reagan's nominees when it was at the end Of his Presidential terms. If given the chance and Senate majority.. Both party's would do the same or talk The same about the process.

The 3 sentences that I quoted stand on their own in context of the whole. I don't see the meaning or implication misconstrued in any way. I think it's great that Democrats would be more likely to nominate Women and Assorted Ethnic group members like Fools, than Republicans would.

I may just take them up on their offer Trump wins! Because, let's face it, if he wins, our country as we know it will cease to exist. We think hate groups are huge now? Just wait. http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/93919016-story

Unfortunately, I think we are looking at a Trump/Clinton showdown...talk about a no win situation...Mr 'Barricade Us From the rest of the word' vs Mrs 'Vote for me because I'm a girl, but have nothing else to offer'....barf I can't vote for a socialist, but would at least respect Bernie for keeping it 'real' and would much prefer Rubio over anyone in the field

You have to admit, he's the ideal reality TV candidate in the Twitter Age.

I saw Rubio in one of those endless town hall things. He seemed like he might be a reasonably intelligent guy. Why should I not vote for him? I'm asking anyone who wants to answer.

I'd respect him for keeping it real if he actually kept it real.

"Donald Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner, isn't happy that a member of the prominent Ricketts family has bankrolled an effort to thwart his campaign. And he took to Twitter on Monday to warn the Chicago Cubs owners to "be careful." The family is "secretly spending $'s against me," Trump wrote. "They better be careful, they have a lot to hide!" Family matriarch Marlene Ricketts' $3 million donation to the anti-Trump super PAC, Our Principles PAC, isn't exactly a secret. Campaign-finance reports filed over the weekend disclosed her as the super PAC's largest contributor. Joe Ricketts, Marlene Ricketts' husband, is the founder of online brokerage firm TD Ameritrade and a longtime Republican activist and donor. Their son, Pete, is Nebraska's governor."

I like something Jay Leno said in his guest monolog on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show: (not an exact quote, but close enough) "'Just think if Bernie Sanders is elected President, he will be the first elected Socialist in that position since 2008."

When Republicans keep voting in favor of the rich by suppressing the wage increases of lower paid workers, it increases the need of social programs to help those who are being cheated out of their rightful functional incomes, and those who are less blessed to fend for themselves. The Republicans create their own problems and then blame everyone else for the results. They cling to this belief that there is an endless ocean of money out there and that it doesn't affect others when we allow the super rich to be so grossly and disproportionately overcompensated. But, don't try to explain it to them...it will go over their heads at the speed of light. They have sold their souls out to the golden microphoners and the almighty dollar.
