Internet Privacy Issues

How do you try to hold on to your privacy on the Net? I have fake names, fake ages and fake phone numbers on the Net. I only give out phony ones. I just now realized my facebook password might be easy to deduce, and went in and changed it. I hope it wasn't too late (if so, somebody really got an eyeful reading my private messages, I wince and cringe at the thought)! I give out fake info to telemarketers too, when I don't actually hang up on them. I fear stalkers, being spied on, getting ripped off, etc. I do have some pix of me on my "favorite videos" thread on the "Band on the Run" board here. I didn't know how to place them and a boardie did it for me. That was my most popular thread here, with a lot of good music vids. It's amazing how some people resort to ruse and subterfuge to try to get your info, even people you'd think would be well educated, somewhat sophisticated and urbane grown adults. Also it's unfair they can do anything they want to if they're rich, to achieve their sneaky goals

That's right--if someone reads your private messages and e-mails, that "instant John Lennon Karma" will get them--or later on, if not immediately! I really value and treasure my Net (and in the "real world") privacy, and try to always respect that of others.

Not just Internet, but all of life I am referring to... ^^ or in the Afterlife. I wonder sometimes about why people maliciously hurt others, and I think, "do they believe in an Afterlife?" No matter if it is religious in nature or spiritual. If you don't get karma here, surely you will pay the price after death, and the price is high. I suppose if you don't believe in anything then it doesn't matter. I believe in an Afterlife existence of some kind. I do good deeds because I am at nature a good person, not due to being afraid of my karma. I like knowing in my heart I am good and don't have to fight my soul to be a good human being.
Kittay I feel very much as you do. I think that it is something that you are born with, in both your heart and soul.

Those guys are good at their "jobs" of getting information from people. I used to think that I was good at protecting information and recognizing A set up .... Etc.. I have had someone put crud like virus or problems ... On my computer that caused me a lot of time and work To restore. Their information boxes looked Just like my computer's box. In this case I did not give much and Had to do a lot of restoring. If your job is ripping people off on Their computers (personal information can be just like money) you are going To be good at your craft so as to not Get caught and to make lots of money Or trouble. I do not approve of this at all

There is no privacy online. You can do a lot of things for your peace of mind, but the people who know how to find you can find you. As long as you have good virus software and don't do stupid things like give your credit card number to a Nigerian prince, it's a safe enough place. But it's not as private as some people think.

I am very, very careful when it comes to privacy on the internet. I clear cookies at least twice a day & my browser's cache at least a few times a week. If I'm not certain about particular sites, I have a junk email account that I use. We also have excellent anti virus and anti spyware on all of our computers. My FB email address is different from my personal email address. And yest, I'll use a different name unless I'm very certain of some sites. These days we all have to guard our internet privacy very fiercely.

Andy, no problem at all. I don't mind sharing the name of the anti-virus software I use with everyone. AVG Internet Security. They're great! My husband even has it for his business.

I don't understand how someone on a website can do so much damage. Can't you just ignore them? Or simply not go to that site?

I'm sorry for all your trials and tribulations, Miss Kittay, and about everyone's. Here's hoping it all turns out well for you! High hopes! For one thing, I was apprehensive somebody's old lady was somehow jealous of me, and my imagination ran away with me, thought, will I be crushed like a bug in some manner. But then again, maybe it was somebody real super good who wanted what they asked for, but I didn't get those vibes that it was
T'was a mystery.

Just be careful of what you share/post. The less info one gives to certain sites the better.

Some people will risk their own lives to make a dishonest dollar.
That's very true. Sometimes criminals put so much time and energy into their crimes, you'd think they could earn an honest living with less effort. But I still don't understand how people online can have so much control over your life.

--what does Bill Gates think about all this online porn? I sometimes wonder. And what did Steve Jobs think about it.
