Maybe it's time to rethink... http://greenlining.org/blog/2016/demilitarize-police-demilitarize-america/

"The only true patriotism, the only rational patriotism is loyalty to the nation all the time, loyalty to government when it deserves it."

Sometimes seems like rather a police state, where I live , but there is still a gracious plenty of crime ! Criminals don't seem all that deterred! This (U.S.) is rather a wild and lawless land, what with all the gun violence and drinking and drugs which often fuel it. And despite (in the South, anyway) a church on every corner. (A honkey tonk bar on every corner too, in many parts.) And cops always on the patrol. Yet still not at the right place at the right time. With this latest unspeakably tragic abomination of 80 and counting lives lost in Nice, France (the driver used guns to kill, too and even had grenades in his death truck), looks like Europe can't claim we're (the U.S.) the major one with all the killers (besides the Middle East, and South America too is no slouch at violence) plus considering the two World Wars were started there, in Europe. One wishes Nice, France were more of a "police state" and then maybe last night's horror would not have happened (?).

I never worried about guns. Seems you need to these days!

Wow, what gives you that idea to even say something like that? I've never seen anybody applaud the senseless killing of anybody, no matter who they are, on this board. What happened in Baton Rouge (where i used to live as a matter of fact) is terrible. Killing should not fuel more killing what so ever, and our country is turning into the wild west again.

Now does anyone here recall the Super Bowl 2016 Half Time Show? Just sayin'.

It's not just the US - it's turning into a horrible nightmare everywhere. I hate seeing the news whether it's on TV or in the papers filled with reports & photos of nothing but violence. Too many innocent people are maimed or killed almost every day. This needs to stop. I'm afraid of what the future holds for everyone's children & grandchildren.

I feel afraid, for myself and everyone. The whole planet. All Hell keeps busting loose. No sooner do You get upset over one atrocity than another happens. And then more soon after that, on and on and on. I studied world history and know things on earth have always gotten very wild, frequently. To hear more police were shot and killed in Baton Rouge is so disturbing, I feel jittery nervous and on the verge of hot tears, it's been like that for days now and what happened in Nice, France on Bastille Day (shudders)... One massive difference now from ancient history wars is that nuclear weapons of mass destruction could destroy just about everything if many or just several are unleashed about the same time as in a WWIII doomsday scenario causing "nuclear winter" and it's been that way for decades. Seems a miracle that hasn't already happened. Sometimes Armageddon appears all too near. I want all the children to be able to live out their lives.

As much as I abhor injustice by men and women who commit color of law offenses, and I know from experience in Montgomery, Alabama. I hate to see any police officer good or bad be killed. No one should commit murder! I have been very emotional watching the news. Experts say watching too much news can be bad on your psyche. Hopefully people will find peace in he world and stop killing each other.

Making the public afraid is the easiest way to control them.

Demilitarize the Police & Militarize a different force As for me - I trust the police much more than any political party running law enforcement. A few bad apples in the bunch can be dealt with appropriately ... Centralizing all power is much too dangerous ... my opinion ...

More mass copycat killings in Munich Germany and in Japan--what recourse can be taken when a lone homicidal maniac appears out of the blue suddenly to unleash mass mayhem and nobody knew it was coming...feels like we're all being terrorized by one abomination after another, living on edge (shudders).

I HOPE you are not serious. THAT was exactly what Stalin and ALL dictators have believed. Look what's happening in Turley, for example. Lovely way to "preserve" democracy. For who?! Also this senseless excessive force is happening up here in Canada: The RCMP, and regular police seem to be watching too much USA news. I've heard that former American Police Trainers are now being coveted to "teach" our Canadian Law & Order forces. Small wonder it's occurring up here. Sigh. Then there's the systemic bullying, etc of women on the force. Whatever happened to the "GOOD" guys????

Little Laura - Little doesn't speak of your thoughts, they are spoken as if you were an eye witness to the horror it took to bring Stalin into power and then only to bring on greater horrors afterward! As far as women in the police - the men ought to witness women warriors in the Israeli armies & police forces! The majority of adults must serve in the Israeli Forces ... and they get called back into duty if there are any problems. The men in Israel respect the women highly!

No, I'm not that old to have seen Stalin's horrors personally; however I was/am a student of world history. Glad to hear about what happens in Israel.

I've only been to Israel twice, but from what I've seen, it's a very pro-women country.

The sad part of living in Israel is having to have a "safe room" with gas masks A woman I know tells me about her elderly parents and about the safe rooms. As a race, I give the Israelis a lot of credit, they are a very very strong people!
