New Stage Design

[Bob] Gannon talked about the new rising stage made for the tour, which has gotten some pre-show buzz from fans. ?The stage adds about another 10-15 feet from it to the first row. So you're a little further back, but not all that much. It's only during two songs 'Blackbird' and 'Here Today.' But when he moves to the front stage and tells the story behind 'Blackbird,' he is actually closer than he's ever been to the first row. I was in the fourth row and I felt like I could reach out and grab him. ?Now, as the stage rises, it does make it a little tough to see Paul with the lights in your eyes, but it almost gives him a celestial glow, a very cool effect. Not sure how it looked from the back seats, but cool from my vantage point.
Thanks, Bob...I'm really looking forward to seeing that...
Bob is someone who has been to enough shows that I trust his opinion. He's not one to exaggerate and such. Having met Bob, though, he's also well north of 6 feet tall, so he can see fine no matter where he's standing or what's in front of him.

WixRocks!:
I only ask because I'm reading from a lot of people on facebook that were up front, and are up front quite a lot, that the gap is no different than usual and really just brings Paul closer to those in the front when he comes out onto the platform.
For those 2-3 songs out of the 30+ songs he plays...
bring a neck brace...
for comfort ... Ok I'm not dissing Paul, just the space between us... & cost $S's previous gigs so close and it's funner... haha at funner!~

I was looking at pictures from previous tours and found that the Coachella show (April 2009) had the same space between the stage and first row as this tour. And that show didn't have an ascending stage.
Could you post the photos you looked at for the Coachella show? I think that would help allay some fears folks are having about the distance with this new stage.
I've been up close to the stage before for indoor Paul shows, and the picture I posted from Orlando yesterday shows a MUCH bigger gap than previous indoor shows.
The only other outdoor gig I've been close to the stage for had barely any gap, but that was the Halifax show. We were basically right next to the stage with a minimal gap, but it was standing only, so maybe that made the difference?
we were soo close in Toronto 2nd row.. there was what,.. maybe 5 feet in the pit?i

I think Bob pretty reasonable too.. but like you said he is the HT & WT of a linebacker - so it's probably not much of a factor for him~ however like he said.. in that piece .. "It's not that bad" iterpetetation? "It's not Good-either"

The very beginning of this video shows the space between the stage and first row at Coachella...

If that's front and center, that's horrible!
You shouldn't have to zoom in that much to get a full body shot of a performer if you're front row!

That's what large outdoor gigs are always like? It's why I prefer intimate gigs! At the O2 Academy the people at the back were closer than front row at these latest gigs!!

They're NOT all like that for Paul. Coachella is a festival show, so many different acts and their needs have to be met, along with their security and handlers and such, so that might explain that gap. Again, Halifax, NS was NOT that big of a gap, and that was a stage set up JUST for Paul.

festivals are like that not stadiums... for the huge masses, I guess? but weren't they much closer for that gig in London? the park name is escaping me...

Yes I have reviewed footage and it would appear you are correct (surprise surprise!) The new stage really does leave the front row miles away! Particularly for an indoor show. Even from Paul's POV it is obvious the front row is miles away, why not just have the riser part of the normal stage?!

By the way, you can see me in this picture: just to the left of the microphone, looking down at my big sign, my arms around it, trying to make it visible to Paul, next to a green sign. http://cdn-02.paulmccartney.com/images/colletions/OutThereBrazil2013/13MAY04_PM_Bello_Horizonte_0612RT.jpg

I'd love a hi-res version of that shot to read the pages on the floor!

One of them is the setlist, the other ones are instructions to Paul on how to talk to Brazilian audience in Portuguese. The monitor seems to be showing the lyrics to "Eight Days A Week".
