I went to AROTR Weds. and got home Mon. to find out that one of my cats (Buffy) had scooted out Thurs. (unbeknownst to my mom) She didn't realize until 10 pm and she was up all night checking the doors to see if she was there. She should have immediately put out food & water, but that didn't get done until Mon. (she didn't want to spoil my fun by calling and telling me) We put up flyers and got the word out in the neighborhood via email. One guy emailed me and said he thought he saw her by the storm drain by our house on Monday, but we've never seen her. It has been so hot here since Weds. that she is probably dead from heat exhaustion and lack of water by now. We are all pretty sad (including my 29 year old twins--it was my daughter who rescued her as a kitten from a tree in Jan. 2009 when she was about 6-7 mos. old. She was my son's favorite of the 3 cats.) She has done this many times in the past, but it was always witnessed and then she would come right back in after a bit. Somehow she just got past my mom without her noticing. Here's my sweet kitty in the dryer! (Dec. 3, 2011)

Cats are more hungry than normal these days
-
My kitty has not returned and it's been almost 2 weeks.
-
That is a long time. I am sorry to hear that.

I know. Funny (odd) thing is that recently a little kitten has appeared on our porch (mostly dark with some tabby and bits of orange and some white on tummy--so maybe she is a Calico?) and we started to feed her (my Mom went out and got kitten food!) She is still skittish and won't let us pet her yet. We still have 2 other cats (indoor) and my mom doesn't want another, especially another longhair, which she is. Our 2 outdoor cats either disappeared or were run over (right in front of me--I still have nightmares) so maybe she will be our new outdoor cat.

Nancy, Your Maine Coon is a beauty. I'm so sorry she's been missing; perhaps someone has taken her in and given her food and water. Is she microchipped? I'll keep fingers crossed for you. When I lost my handsome Bo (another Maine Coon) to the street, a sweet little kitty wandered into my life a few months later. You just never know! Years ago there was someone on the George board who had a small kitty named Little Willow. Always thought that was pretty neat!

I have two cats rascal and Stella they have been together for over ten years. They have always got on well until about 2 months ago. Rascal attacks Stella on sight and I mean attacks. If I try and split them up rascal attacks me as well. I am having to keep Stella on her own in my bedroom. I've taken them both to the vets and she can't find thing wrong with either of them. They are both female and house cats.

Vet put my cat on an antihistamine in case his liking and aggression is due to allergies. Supposed to calm anxiety too We will see.

No, not microchipped. Even weirder, now a new kitten has appeared and it looks just like Buffy! If we end up keeping one we were going to name her Willow, not after the song, but after the Buffy the Vampire Slayer character. (Our other 2 cats are Angel and Spike!)

Sounds like the universe is speaking to you. It might not heal the heartache, but cats find us - not the other way around.

So sorry to hear about your beautiful cat being missing. Saying prayers you find her! (((Nancy)))

How did you know she was a Maine Coon? Did I mention it or did you just figure it out?

Nancy, I don't recall now that you ask. Maybe I read deeper back into the thread and saw a reference, or maybe I just knew when I saw her picture. I saw the "floof," the ear and toe tufts and the trademark "M" on her head. I've had four cats in the past 20 years, all Maine Coons and all found as 6-week-old strays on my property. My house is bounded by farms on three sides, and they were likely barn cats, not purebreds. Sophie, my current cat, is a 17-year-old Silver Coon. I love the breed for their gentle, dog-like personalities, intelligence and handsome faces. Have you decided on a name for the new arrival?

My girl missed the litter box, what a stink

I guess you missed my post on the 13th about naming her Willow, not after the Paul song, but after a Buffy the Vampire Slayer character (our other cats are Spike & Angel) Here's a shot of the gray kitten who is still shy & skittish:

She is sweet! She'll likely be up in that wicker chair all stretched out and at home in no time. I didn't catch the Buffy reference, but love the name Willow. Best wishes for years of happiness ahead with your new friend!

Medication seems to be helping with anxiety. His fur might be growing back

Our cats are enjoying the sunshine by lounging in whichever window they deem the sunniest.
