what do you think of Dogs

Oh my...you do have your hands full. A new dog, mice & coyotes. I don't envy any of that! We have some coyotes around here too but I don't think they'd come around here.
They do apparently run in packs or at least groups of three around here. We have had more than one neighbor send something out to our neighborhood group stating they caught three of them surrounding their dogs in their backyards either early in the morning or at night. So, I'm not comfortable leaving her out very long in the winter. They are hungrier in the winter and meaner.

That is terrible. I know they have gotten some small dogs around here. But I never really heard about a hunting pack of them. That is scary!

Yeah, she's smaller than our last dog by over 10 lbs. I wasn't ever too worried about him. He would have been a force to reckon with but she is a dainty little thing, so I have to keep an eye on her. She gobbled up her food right away tonight. Then, I took her for a long walk. She didn't do anything, but she was sniffing so I'm encouraged. Basically, the breeder said she'd never even been walked on a leash before we got her. She had a doggie door and a huge fenced in yard. So, eating the food on schedule twice today ?that's huge! Does Lucy still run off if given a chance? I always wondered why dogs do that. Rocco used to do that, too, but not the last about 8 mos.

Yes, Lucy just walks away. : LOL. She won't come when called unless I get real mad & yell her name. Then she just drops dead in her tracks. Funny, we taught her all these tricks but she won't come when called. Maybe cos she doesn't get a treat for that. She was used as a hunting dog at one point in her life so her nose is very sensitive. Today at the park, she remembered where the deer were 2 days ago & she put her head up & smelled but nope...no deer today. A little farther down the path she did howl a few times & there were tracks so maybe a coyote. I wonder if a coonhound that hasn't been hunted would have such a strong nose.

oh & yay that CC ate her food. Maybe tomorrow she will be ready to do her duty on your walk!

Dogs always amaze me with what they are able to do sometimes. I bet she would surprise you if you had her out in the woods for a few days or weeks. Those instincts kick in pretty strongly! Yeah, hope so on the duty, lol, but have a feeling it will take some more time on that part.

oh yeah...we have a huge willow tree in the yard & she used to stand up on it & bay. I think something was living up there but has since moved out!

I got all layered up ..... this cold weather wasn't and isn't going to stop me ... not even the arctic wind ..... (*I was mostly toasty except for parts of my face not covered) ..... I assumed since my dog is wearing his fur coat he is okay ...... sometimes I wonder if he is not and he shows no signs of complaint .... he did get "snow paw or ice paw" maybe a bit of salt ..... I took my gloves off and surrounded the paw for a quick warm up to him ..... I got too conscious about it ..... we went around only one time in an area that I like to go much longer ...... If I did push him .... it was a quick walk .... he was running around the house so I believe he is alright .... If it appears okay to walk my dog ..... I try to .... there are too many days coming up that I do not ..... extreme cold and wet snow, rain, mud etc ... today was dry .....

^ OMG! I know what you mean in this coooold weather. Last night Lucy's paws froze while she was outside. And she was only there for maybe 4 minutes. ( I think she had frostbite on her hind legs from a loong time ago before we got her.) So now we are putting on her boots even just for the backyard. We did go for a very short walk today & she had the rear boots on & she was jumping & barking all over the place! She acted like a young pup...like she didn't have sore feet. Really cute!
-
Lucy has boots! That is too sweet. I didn't know you could even get those. Wow!
-
Yeah, Lucy has boots for her frozen feet. Poor baby. She has a very short coat of hair...she's from the south. lol...here's a pic of her lookin not too happy. I'll try to get one of her jumping around like a fool.
-
Lucy looks too sweet for words!!!! Did you buy those boots at Petco or a place like that?
-
I got mine through the mail but yes, Petco has them. I wish someone would design some that actually fit a dog's paw better. They need to be like long sox with a velcro closing.
-
I need some tiny ones for CC. She's not even 15 lbs. yet Lucy's are darling!
-
Lu is 65# & when she goes diving through the snow piles they tend to come off. 15# is tiny! I didn't they were that small. Oh my...that's a lap dog huh? Does she like to come up on the couch or is that not allowed? Lucy used to do that but I put a stop to that! A big dog on the couch can get too territorial. lol
-
She is definitely a lapdog. I keep a beach towel on the love seat, so she's allowed. Our Springer Spaniel used to get on the sofa when we weren't home. She never tried when we were home. We discovered her little secret one time when we came home early. She justlooked at us like "What are you doing in my bedroom."
-
aww...I think a lapdog would be fun to snuggle up with.
-
Yes. She's sweet. Hey I love that "jacket" Lucy is wearing, also. How cool!!!!

Funny! Well, either a mouse or mice are eating our dog food at night. I bought two mouse traps two days ago. Haven't set them yet. Will tonight probably now that I've worked up the nerve to do it.
