what do you think of Dogs

Beware of Petco. They are not only a puppy mill but they recently sent kittens to a kill shelter.
-
They don't sell puppies. At least not here they don't.

I've never seen a Petco in the U.S. that sells puppies or kittens from puppy mills or other places. They do adoptions through local shelters/adoption agencies depending on the area, but never out right sell them on their own.

Yeah, those stores where you buy "designer" dogs are all from puppy mills. And not just designer dogs...someone at the dogpark had a cane corsico (SP?) mix that came from a mill. What the heck?

Oh yeah, there are still sadly too many pet stores in the U.S. that sell from these horrible puppy mills. San Francisco recently just made it law that no pet store in the city limits can sell dogs from puppy mills, thank goodness! Hopefully more places will make that into law as well. But I've never seen a Petco that out right sells dogs and cats, they do adoptions through local agencies on the weekends. I have a feeling if a Petco somewhere is doing this, they are doing it without the consent or knowledge of the corporate office and therefore should be closed down of course.

I thought Chicago had the same law but maybe it's just in the city limits not the burbs. I wish everyone had to stop breeding dogs just for a couple years. That would make such a difference in the amount of dogs being killed at the shelters every day.

Oh me too oobu, heartbreaking to see the amount of dogs and cats that have to be put down every year because people insist on over breeding these poor animals.

How do you tell if the dogs are from puppy mills? Want to check out my local Petco. There is another store in a small mall near me where many of the dogs seem to be poodle cocka poo mixes and other mixes. They are not cheap. I wonder if they can be puppy mill dogs, or are puppy mill dogs just one breed. The mixes are so adorable.

I would think that most any puppy from a store...not including puppies brought to stores that host adoption events...are from a mill. I went to one years ago...called "puppies"... : how creative...and after playing with a little boxer pup I asked if these dogs ever get to see the outside & I'd be willing to play with him out in the grass. They said oh yeah they go outside all the time. HA...yeah right. Many of these breeds can be found on petfinder.com. They have mixes & purebreds...I found my purebred dog there. And he was transported to me for free...though we did make a donation for the guys time. What happens to these dogs at the store when they get to be 9 months old...or older. They all can't be sold. Maybe some eventually end up at the shelters.

Gosh, that would be sad, but maybe not if they are adopted by loving people who couldn't afford them in the pet stores.

what's the best type of dog to buy

what's the best type of dog to buy
The best type of dog to own depends on what kind of place you live in. House, apt., etc. next what size is your yard? Big dogs need lots of room to exercise & play. Then you need to decide on breed, male or female.

I just had to post this as it made me laugh. Most of you may remember both of my dogs are mini-schauzers and are retired mothers who do not appreciate having their routines changed. I am their caretaker 98 percent of the time. Occasionally, I have to ask my husband for help. Yesterday morning I had to leave very early and asked him to feed them and let them out. Text message exchange checking on them: Me: Did dogs go out? Hubs: No. dogs wouldn't go out. Cuppie did not deign to dine and has not left her bed (upstairs). Coco ate and then dove into the bowels of her crate (downstairs). O will try again in a bit.

They are such creatures of habit...the dogs not the hubby. They missed Mom!
