anyway i just wanna thank paul for staying away...and yes ,watching some of the others tonight put pauls performance into some perspective..its a pity he was playing the opening because tonight would have been more fitting and jubilant. 'the who' where dreadful,,'liam gallagher' was dreadful..'george michael' looked like a huge twit..''queen' looked desperate and very sad..'take that' where efficiant as where the younger rap acts [dont know the names]...'annie lennox ' makes me embarrasesed to be scottish.'muse' and 'elbow' where boring and took themselves too seriously and the spice girls errrrrrrrrrrrr give me a break...the ginger dude with the pink floyd drummer and mike from mike and the mechanics sounded good..pity they never got more time.

about an hour into the closing ceremonies...way way way cool! the parade of athletes all clean and dressed up a platinum gold john and the children's choir 10 platinum golds

Kudos to Gary Barlow for performing after he and his wife Dawn lost their fourth child, Poppy, stillborn at birth on August 4th. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19153652 Favourite moment? The arrival of ballerina Darcey Bussell astride a fiery phoenix bird: http://media.star-telegram.com/smedia/2012/08/12/20/31/Gbcfk.St.58.jpg Prior to the show itself the BBC broadcast several compilations of iconic moments from the games. I thought I'd be "highlighted out" by now having seen similar compilations throughout the weeks, but these were well and originally edited with that wonderful reflective male narrator they used throughout. I'd love to know his name. Update - that was Eddie Butler, the segments formed part of the "Countdown" pre-show: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01m30vw/Olympic_Ceremonies_London_2012_Closing_Ceremony_Countdown/ The ceremony itself is already up on iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01m1l2q/Olympic_Ceremonies_London_2012_Closing_Ceremony/ (as usual, I assume this will not be available overseas :cry Martin

Like the opening ceremony, the soundtrack to the show is now available on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/symphony-british-music-music/id552355141 This seems to be just the original score segments - the multitude of well known songs performed are not included. Martin

Pinball Wizard was sung by the Kaiser Chiefs - the dude who made his entry on a Mod scooter being their lead singer Ricky Wilson. Wish You Were Here was sung by Ed Sheeran supported by the original Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and Mike Rutherford (Genesis/Mike and the Mechanics) Rather Like Jessie J, Ed Sheeran is fashionable here in the UK at the moment. if by fashionable martin you mean 'young' and with their career's infront of them then you would be right.

Not that I care much but it was virtually everyone miming yesterday, I think. Even Brian May solo was a mime, I think. I thought Queen was going to get into We Are The Champions after We Will Rock You, as usual. The sound was horrible again, I mean the sound of the vocals on performances. No matter who sang. It remind me of the opening... The selection was great except for some embarassment like Spice Girls especially doing Spice Up Your Life, one of the worst songs ever, if it can be considered a song. Pretty much a mash-up of the biggest money makers in UK music, not the best musicians.

There was a surreal moment in Spanish TV while the basketball final. There was a moment when Spain looked like they're going to take the lead "They can't stop Gasol, they can't stop Gasol!" they said at TV. Then Gasol had that knock with James. Yes, they can stop him. http://estaticos01.marca.com/albumes/2012/08/12/espana_eeuu_londres/1344798912_extras_albumes_0.jpg

I watched "live" on line ... & wanted to again on NBC ... but gave up & went to bed after the start of the "new animal program".

That was weird that they did that huh?

Question for those who saw it live--what word did they bleep in Eric Idle's "Always Look On the Bright Side of Life?" Here in the U.S. we got a "bleep." And I just saw the "A Day in the Life" bit that was cut out of our tape delayed show, but what about the "Here Comes the Sun" bit? (damn that NBC!)

Don't you know the song? Life's a load of s**t When you look at it...
I know the song (generally) but it went by so fast I didn't catch it. Thanks!

Don't you know the song? Life's a load of s**t When you look at it... I was quite surprised they included that lyric, since they'd changed quite a few of the others to fit the occasion. That song was one of the highlights, but overall I thought the closing ceremony was all a bit misjudged and embarrassing. Didn't seem to be saying anything, and a big anticlimax to a fantastic games really. Wish I could have got that 2 hours' sleep back anyway! Hope it didn't tarnish the great memory of the Games in the eyes of the world. Glad to see some liked it on here, but just looking on Facebook during the ceremony I saw overwhelmingly scathing remarks where they were overwhelmingly very positive during the opening ceremony.

The bit they showed from Freddie ends with a "Fuc* you" directed to the whole audience. I was wondering, "are they gonna show that too?" but they deleted the sound there leaving Freddie pointing to the audience but not saying a thing. BTW, showing that bit as a kind of representation of Freddie is possibly the worst thing they could choose. Those "duets with the audience" were just for fun moments (as shows in the end... "Fuc* you!"). That was the tour with the worst vocals ever of Freddie and that part is the most absurd one. It's like if they represented Paul with the "and now the girls... and now the fellows" on Hey Jude, made just for fun... but well... So Beatle, Lennon and McCartney fans should feel lucky. NME says that Bowie, the Stones and the Sex Pistols (and others) turned down the Olympics closing ceremony. I guess Elton John turned it down too.

The declared aim of the show director was to engage the athletes and spectators in the experience - to feature songs and events that encouraged audience participation. From what I saw, everything from Eric Idle, through Freddie Mercury to the DJ Fat Boy Slim did just that. The roving eye camera's were dominated by groups of athletes brandishing their medals - sadly a natural by-product of close camera work - if they could have used more cameras at distance they could have better represented how well they "Pumped" the atmosphere to a crescendo. Some glorious moments - The Spice Girls flying round atop their "taxi's" - echoing the James Bond drama's from the opening ceremony. We were promised "cheerful and cheesy". We certainly got that in buckets. We also had calming moments with artistic integrity - the Kate Bush song Running Up That Hill with performers representing effort and competition. The Royal Ballet featuring Darcey Bussell - all showcasing the "other side" of the UK giving the event some gravitas amongst the necessary formalities of the hand-over. I didn't get the Brazil/Rio De Janeiro bit but I assume that was for their audience - I recall similar reactions to the UK's closing ceremony bit in Beijing. I expected a stage flooded with samba-ing feather-(and not much else)-clad dancers but it seems men samba as well. But the use of the ubiquitous high vis work-wear in their jokey introduction meant that most of the apparently iconic star's samba "action was lost to the clothing. The samba drum band with their huge - but otherwise totally purposeless - drum adornments was lost - they could have discarded the costume drums and drummed up a storm I'm sure. Nice to see Pele, but that appearance was almost a "given" just like David Beckham in Beijing. Still they've got four years to hone their presentation for their opening ceremony - more girls I say Martin
