Going to buy a nice one so I can get Netflicks online and watch movies like that instead of running back and forth to the library all the time. Grateful FOR such a great library, but would rather just be hi tech, now for movies. So, what kind does anyone out there have and why or why not would you recommend it? Thanks for any and all comments I have no clue what to buy. Gonna get an iPad, too, it you have one and care to comment on yours.

One of my TVs just died. 50" Hitachi. Plazma vs LED vs LCD? Any comments?

Mines an LCD. Plasma tv's have a projection bulb that goes out in them and is costly to replace.

So 2 LCDs so far. Good to know. Ours that went out is at least 20years old & is a rear projection. I guess 20 years isn't too bad...but it's time for a new one. Fan 4-45years...did you ever get one? What kind?

The one that you like the most --- a store like Best Buy is great where you can compare a dozen or more with one another. Happy Shopping

Not YET. I've been looking at Best Buy and saw two that I like the resolution a lot. I THINK one is a Sony and the other is a name I've never heard of. Got sidetracked buying a new MacBook Pro. Thanks for all of the comments. Now I'm wondering what questions to ask such as: 1) Can I watch BlueRay DVDs on it? 2) How do I navigate internet on it for Netflicks, separate remote? You know, things like that

                            * I don't know how true this is or not ..... someone said to look for which Television has the best "Black" (seriously) .. While everyone is looking at color ..... etc .... whichever one achieves the best black has the better overall picture. They sounded convincing. I have not television shopped in a long long time to give recent buying advice.

study the flat screens...there are a lot of variations...one thing i can recommend is to get matte (flat black) screen finish instead of a glossy one ...otherwise you'll get more reflected glare from lights in the room get a wide screen...it will cover all of the screen dimension formats better the fool is correct about black back lighting...it gives you the option of choosing a richer and deeper background shading contrast for your picture

I was just about to advise to stay away from Plasmas, especially Korean made. I had one, about two years (terrific picture), but it failed, and the price they quoted to fix (and they stressed, "if they can get the part") it was cheaper to throw it out and buy an LED. I have a Sony now, it is great, but now they have 3d and hookup to the net directly from the sets. Whatever you get, there will be something better in another year. Podgie (my advice) Monkey

I have a Sony as well...have always liked them... You asked about an iPad... I have to say... Best thing I ever bought!! The only downside is no flash...but there's not as much flash anymore. It's like a portable computer...I take it everwhere.... Can even Skype while driving...now that I find impressive! I have the 3G ... While traveling I can even show live straming to family, of where I am...did I mention that I love it?
