Isn't that just a kind of doughnut? I remember these amazing doughnut type things I had when I was in Kenya. They were called mandazis. Really delicious!! So the "k" in knish isn't silent then! Interesting!

Thanks! As long as I know I'm excluded! Looking them up though, I see they're Italian in origin, and that strictly "zeppole" is the plural, and "zeppola" the singular http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeppole

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_dough_foods A whole world of fried dough! The ones above are called "Jersey Wonders"! And apparently all we have in the UK is "fried bread"! : : A pleasant enough addition to any fried breakfast, granted, but just not the same as these other doughnuts and treats at all!
-
ok who's got a BIG deep fryer that we could all come over for some deep fried dough or mashed potatoes? Do we have to wait for fairs in the summer? That's when they are available here.

All you have is fried bread? Well...very similiar to my elephant ears. Just shake some powdered suger on yours & make up a new name!
