While I was in the Airforce back in the mid 80's, they asked me if I'd like to extend my current enlistment by 18 months (I already had indicated I had no interest in fully re-enlisting) - the catch was that if I chose this option, I'd be sent to Anchorage, Alaska (Elmendorf AFB)...I respectfully declined, basically because I was single back then and didn't view Anchorage as a 'happening town' (gotta have my priorities straight...LOL)...the kicker is that nowadays, I'm an outdoors fanatic and I'd almost kill to go there for a vacation (I still wouldn't want to live there though)

After reading Into The Wild, I'm also dying to visit the area. One of my professors in college spent a few years teaching there, and said he couldn't stand the snow. That's why he moved to Vermont.
