Lets try this again....in third house now. First house the whole island is underwater. Second house no electricity for 7 days. Transformers exploding everywhere. Now in third house where everyone is safe. Best wishes to all who have to clean up after this storm. Stay safe!

These are probably fakes, but I'll share them anyway. Here are pictures and a video of "sharks" in the streets of New Jersey. Can someone provide more info?

Just take care and conserve your resources - esp mobile phone and radio batteries, these are the life blood of the emergency services and you should keep those options alive as long as you can - even if it means abandoning us here. Martin
Martin, it becomes a case of sitting in the pitch black charging your phone from your car cigarette lighter. Actually my car is nice and warm, because my house is in the low 60's or 17, without a heater... but very boring sitting in the dark! No TV and no music!! JennyLP so glad to hear you are safe... The pictures from LBI are just awful!
did you find a place in Jersey with electricity? I'm ready to take a trip and get a room...brrrrrr cant sit in my car all night! lol Just heard a family was electrocuted stepping on wet leaves and a live wire... They're going to keep the power off untill they can repair all of the lines.... 5th Beatle, that shark by the porch photo could be real...don't think the other one is tho... Take good care everyone....be safe!!! -
Just wanted all of you who have been/are being affected by Hurrican Sandy that I am thinking you all. I was just watching news about New Jersey and New York and all other states and it is just horrible. Down here in Alabama we are used to hurricanes pretty much every year, but that Sandy Storm is terrifying. I think I saw on our local news the other day Alabama Power Co. sent abt. 30 trucks or so up to help out ahead of the storm...stay safe. Gosh I feel so bad for the elderly people there too. Take care.

A 900 mile wide superstorm that will have affected 100's of millions of people for well over 9 days...with such a low loss of life? We live in a very blessed age indeed!

We haven't had a chance to get down there and check things out but I did hear there was damage. We are down by the lighthouse. Actually our house in Bergen County has more damage than the one in LBI. But all can be repaired in time. Still praying for those families that lost lives and homes

Glad you & your "new" family are ok. Hope your damage isn't too too bad.

I was watching CNN and noticed that Upper Manhattan in NYC has power and everyone is doing their normal routines...however Lower Manhattan and has no electricity, running water, hygiene, supplies, etc... Can someone explain this to me? The first thing that came to mind was what happened in New Orleans during Katrina? I found this article and am not the only person wondering the same thing. : http://gothamist.com/2012/10/31/outrage_in_the_powerless_zone_a_dis.php p.s.> is it really true Mayor Bloomberg is going to a basketball game tomorrow? p.p.s.> found out the game is post-poned and he is very disappointed...gee how about the people who are trapped in their apartments in other areas of his city who cannot eat, or drink clean water, who may be dying? Is anyone else outraged? How out of touch can one be? Mayor Bloomberg? http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2012/10/31/barclays-center-knicks-nets-postponed-mayor-bloomberg/1671911/

Following your fortunes via various US channels and the internet. It seems highly likely many of you are, or will be knocked out power wise for a while - possibly a long while if this is a serious as the "worst-case" scenario planners suggest. Just take care and conserve your resources - esp mobile phone and radio batteries, these are the life blood of the emergency services and you should keep those options alive as long as you can - even if it means abandoning us here. Remember mobile/cell phones consume power even on standby - consider shutting one family phone down completely to preserve it's power against the need to make an emergency call later through the emergency. So if that takes you off-line for a while, just remember our thoughts are with you all. Check back in to reassure us you've come through safely but deal with the important issues first - we'll be patient. (((((Hugs)))))) Martin
GREAT advice Martin. Couldn't have said it better. Look after yourselves, and yours, guys, and stay safe. We'll be thinking of ya. More ((((((huggs)))))
