I'm glad he does the festivals. I have no desire to go to festivals at this point in my life (heck I don't like going to outdoor concerts at all anymore - can't control the weather) - but they are a good challenge for him. I also like that instead of trying to 'be like' the other acts he tries to get the audience to come to him. You can't be someone you are not and succeed. They had 100,000 people at Lolla on Friday and most were at his stage. if he gets even 1% of that group to say - wow I like that music - that's almost a 1,000 new fans to check out your music. FWIW, loved the fourfiveseconds mashup and you can really hear the crowed singing with him on the youtube video. The crowd obviously knows that song well. This is something i sort of wish he would do more of. He will never have another hit on his own - he is simply too old, but he is still writing some wonderful music - let some younger acts record some of it - let some of the younger ones hear what a great melody sounds like. Realistically imo he has 2-3 good years of touring left. Lolla was a strong performance but even so his voice is noticeably weaker that the start of Out There in the US in orlando less than 2 years ago. That is only going to continue as he ages - you can't outrun father time. His voice is not as strong and his top range is not as high (though he still has his falsetto). Now he may decide to continue touring for 7 more years for all I know butmy personal opinion is that he has 2-3 before vocally they simply will not be that appealing anymore. A different reason, but a similar rationale to the recent Glenn Campbell documentary - you let them tour until you feel that there are simply having too many poor moments and then you quit.
From your first comment about not going to festivals or outdoor concerts, I'm getting the impression that you've given up on things in your life that you used to do, so it makes perfect sense that you are expecting Paul to be like you and also give up and quit. Having gone myself to an outdoor concert recently (Firefly) and being over the age of most of the concert goers there Slogging through the psychedelic muddy forest to get to the stage, and having my shoes sucked off in the mud! I just was there to have fun and hear the latest music and Paul. All I could hear was the excitement of all the people like me, slogging through the mucky mud... and conversation over conversation was overheard about the people's real excitement of getting to see Paul McCartney!! "Dude, you haven't seen Paul McCartney? He's awesome!!" And along those lines from everyone. Then watching him play...the very young kids around me were truly in awe and very psyched to be hearing him! No snarky comments about his voice, more like how happy they were to be there...and over the years....I have even sat with someone about 17 crying with happy tears that she felt so lucky to have seen a Beatle live and how it meant sooooo much!! Another couple of young kids who were raving about seeing Paul to me at Firefly. He was voted best act at the show!! So I am always saddened when I hear of people who have given up for their on reason, age perhaps...and want all the other older people to give up, with them! You can let your age define you or you can choose to define your age... We all make our own choices. I'm always going to go to shows...maybe I'll have to get some young person wheel me in at some point (hope not) but I'm enjoying life right up to the end! Oh and he had a hit, which he sang, 45 Seconds! Good on him! Please don't count him out on having another hit...
Great post, in all aspects! And also fair play to those who don't desire to go see him at big festivals.

Lollapalooza evacuated due to storm... http://pitchfork.com/news/60636-lollapalooza-evacuated-due-to-weather/ For these kind of reasons, for example .

Frankly I take offense at your comments. Some of it is condescending and trite. I still go to concerts. Not as many as I used to - I have a family and have other priorities and I don't care to go to outdoor concerts because I would rather go to indoor venues where I don't have to worry about heat/cold/rain etc. Others will feel differently and that is great. I haven't quit or given up - just adjusted. I'm not saying Macca should give up or will - just the opposite. I appreciate that he does the festivals and am glad that he does. I'm glad he is still performing for the public when he has no need to have to do it like alot of acts do. He does it because he loves performing and interacting with an audience. He puts on a tremendous show, the bets of any act out there imo. Frankly I expect him to continue to perform in public for as long as he is physically able because that is who he is.. I think you are misconstruing my comments as an amateur musician of where i believe Macca will be in a few years. They are my opinion, but having seen him a dozen times it is easy to acknowledge that as a singer he is not as strong a singer as he was even 18 months ago and that will continue to deteriorate at some undefined pace going forward. His playing though is as good as it has ever been. I've encouraged everyone I know to see him if they have the opportunity because he puts on an amazing show - even if his voice is not as good as it was in the past. And many have and have thanked me for encouraging them to go when they otherwise would not have. I love FourFiveseconds - it is a great song and frankly he should have been playing it all year. Also ,anyone who thinks he will have a hit on his own are only fooling themselves. He doesn't fit any demographic that will get the airtime and digital play necessary to have a hit. That's just a simple This is crass, but also truthful - his next solo hit without the use of other current artists is likely to come when he passes on. The best part is I don't care if he has another hit. i just hope he keeps producing and releasing music for as long as he is capable because it gives me great joy to listen to the music he allows us to share with him.

My point is just do whatever YOU want to do, however, please don't take away someone else's preferences because of age or any other reason. We're all different! It's a GOOD thing! 2: Firefly got evacuated too! I went to the Vibes festival a couple of years ago, no mud... it was great!! Still have Glastonbury on my list, will buy wellies for that!! Would really love to learn to hula hoop... those girls can really do some cool things with the hoops!! I love the colored light ones at night!!

I guess I'm too old, too, then. Because I will NEVER do Bonnaroo again. And, perhaps, the fact that I was not under the influence of anything -- not even a contact-high from the plethora of a particular libation filling the air -- might've played a role in that.
"...libation filling the air..." They were throwing their beers?

Bingo.

Oh, what the heck:
I Love Ya Audi! Love the Maccaroo song too!! Here's Paul's Bonnaroo
I'll admit I'm a little sensitive about people telling other people what they should do, or how they should act their age, or when they should retire, who they should marry, or who they should hang out with... It seems Paul is doing what he wants... even though it must be difficult with so many people giving opinions on what he should do...when he should retire etc. I say good for him, he leads the way for so many people in so many ways. I just hope he listens to the positive stuff and closes his ears to all the negative or whatever he wants, it's his life!! -

Their schedule on their site is confusing. It says Paul McCartney at 6:15pm, which should be right now if their schedule is on Central time which Chicago is in. Would be nice if they said 6:15pm in what time zone!
-
The hosts (2 guys and a girl) were just talking about how good Paul looked (for 73) in his jeans!
-
Look at the schedule here: http://lollapalooza.redbull.tv/stream/1

Yeah that's the one I'm on. I'm wondering if it is automatically set to show the schedule depending on the time zone you're in, since it says 6:15pm on the one I'm looking at. I thought at first it was Central time, which means Paul should be on right now, so I'm thinking they mean 6:15pm Pacific time.
-
Delta Spirit is doing Don't Let Me Down and gave a shout-out to "Paul's band The Beatles!"
-
Now I wish Paul sang the entire FourFive Seconds: I really want to see him blurt out the line, "HOLD ME BACK I'M ABOUT TO SPAZ" WTF?
-
The f***ing stream is hanging up!!!!
-
Found out I can watch this through my Apple TV, so I can watch it on the regular TV when Paul comes on!
