My health tip for the day (let's hear more from you:-))

Fyi (since it's been particularly cold this year throughout a lot of the country)...First a little history; I'm now in the second year of successfully controlling my weight after an 80 lb weight loss (now comfortably at 190 lbs at just a tad under 6"...something like 5'11" and a half...LOL) As most of you know, many people traditionally gain weight during this time of year since they become less active...but did you know that cold air actually increases your metabolism and you can lose weight faster if you do your work outside...the reason is because when you're cold, your body tries to compensate by generating more heat...Of course you should dress appropriately for whatever temps you're going to encounter if you do head outside.... With that said, I've been going out for an hour walk every night, even on the evenings with extreme temps (I live in Massachusetts) and have been adequately managed my weight this winter so far...The only nights I've forgone the walk is if we're actually experiencing a particularly harsh snow storm.... But the message is, don't be afraid to take your efforts to the street in this cold weather - just dress appropriately...no need to join a gym or buy expensive equipment...the streets are free to walk on:-) Just make sure you walk on well lit roads or (even better) on sidewalks Btw - while I've been doing this for several years, I only just heard about this during a recent 'Health Tips' segment on a local news broadcast...It just help solidify what I had suspected

We walk the dog at the park daily...but in these below zero F temperatures the walk has gotten much shorter.

Good to hear Rich - I'm also trying to do that kinda thing. Although I'm not as committed as you, bit of a fair-weather walker. I'm lucky to live by a river and fields but at the moment the water is practically coming over the footbridge and I'm going to lose my wellies in the mud if the rain doesn't stop..... I always start the day with yoga and breathing exercises. Later rebound to Paul's music

I LOVE walking, do it a lot everyday and walk fast for the exercise, but sadly since surgery I haven't been able to do that and won't be allowed for another month. I can walk the same distances, just have to walk slowly. Hope I don't start gaining weight!

I enjoy walking and will try to get a walk in ....even in the cold .... I recently broke my toe ..... but still try to do some walking .... either less of it or at a slower more deliberate pace ...... I would say to most people .... try to do some exercise that you like or somewhat like .... you are more likely to keep doing that ..... something like walking gets me outside .... lets me think or daydream ...can help de-stress me sometimes .... I enjoy it ....especially in good weather .... get to include my dog in the walks .... for this I am more likely to walk than to do some exercise that may feel like a chore and probably won't last so long on the routine part of exercising ..... walking doesn't always feel like exercising even when it is ..... I like to ride a mountain bike and swim ..... but those are further in between and happen less because of my schedule .... usually I can get some walking done most of the time .... and the bike and swimming are warmer or clear weather things .... I do walk in the winter and sometimes a mild rain ..... hopefully all find something that they want to do and they get their exercise from it

I lost 20 lbs. by cutting my lunch down to a simple sandwich on whole wheat bread. Not the cheap "wheat and white" bread, but the real whole wheat bread. That gave me about 300 calories for lunch, but be very careful if you depend on vegetarian meat substitutes as they may be very low calorie. Be sure to get enough calories for each meal, but don't skimp on the minimum. As for the following, I am not an expert, so I would recommend looking it up on the Interneet. I also believe in using Vitamin B5 (Calcium D-Pantothenate; converts to Pantothenic Acid) and Biotin, not crazy mega doses, but close to daily recommended levels. And this is because most of the shelf-stable foods lack Pantothenic Acid, while the preservatives tend to be oxidizers which destroy Pantothenic Acid as well as Folate. The acid is a reducing agent responsible for enabling the liver to detox wastes and eliminate them. It is also essential for forming Co-Enzyme A. Biotin is responsible for removing dead cells. I had a deficiency and the celia on my tongue and the mucous membranes inside my cheeks disappeared, but after making sure to get those two nutrients in my diet, the celia on my tongue began growing back full and starchy like I remember it from my childhood, and my linings returned. I also lost weight with those vitamins, but again, keep the dosage normal because it may be that you aren't getting those nutrients currently, or there may be a problem in converting vitamin B5 to the Pantothenic Acid that is the active form used by the body. And, mega doses of certain vitamins can also be dangerous, or you may have a reaction to specific vitamins or to mega doses, so be wise and be careful with the vitamins. Pantothenic Acid is found in egg yolk, in nuts and legumes, and in a few other foods, but is best when sourced from fresh foods.

After a day spent in heels, roll your feet over a bottle or rolling pin for a few minutes so that it goes back and forth on your arches. This is mostly for women. Or men. I am not here to judge.

It's in a rubber casing of sorts. It should bounce, I think...... just like my iPhone does Just got it at the supermarket. Was reading how plastic water bottles leach into the water. Causes Breast Cancer. Sheryl Crowe feels that caused her cancer. Trying to eliminate plastic containers and buying food in plastic. Have gone over to glass as much as possible. BPA is very bad for you and also lines some cans, so I'm on a campaign to buy food that is in glass instead of cans. I'm planning on writing my favorite food companies encouraging them to go to glass or aluminum, which doesn't need a BPA liner.

I'm happy some items are now in plastic. Like dill pickles. I've dropped a few on my tile floor in the kitchen & even in the garage. So much easier when items like that are in plastic. But I have not done any homework on any of the things you speak of. I know I have heard that plastic water bottles can be wrapped around the earth multiple times...just amazing. But what about plastic shopping bags too? I know you don't consume them but they will never break down. I take my dog for a walk & use a plastic bag to pick up her poop & it'll be in there forever. At least I am reusing the shopping bags. (to buy biodegradable bags...too expensive)
