Sound Check

Has anyone received instructions for going to Soundcheck with the VIP packages for Albany or Pittsburgh? I have the package for Pittsburgh and received my concert tickets quite a while ago, but nothing about Soundcheck. Have done it several times before and don't remember the info coming this late. Thanks for any input.

It was fantastic. This was my 5th or 6th Soundcheck. All of the venues are different but this time we had an open bar before Soundcheck and Open bar & great veggie food afterwards. Soundcheck itself was shorter than usual but fabulous nonetheless. It's hard to go back to "regular" tickets once you've been to Soundcheck!!

I would love to go to sound checks but those tickets are too expensive for me.

This will be my first one - expensive when you buy for your best friend as well since they could never afford it. But it will be great to have someone to remember the experience with.

Sadly it's not as good as it used to be. Soundchecks are way too large now and are much shorter. In the 90's it was almost 90 minutes and in the late 2000's (2009) and some time after it around 20-24 songs. Attendance in late 2000's was anywhere from 15-40. Now there are almost 200 nightly and only13 songs. The veggie dinners generally suck but every once in awhile you get a good one. Still fun but has definitely lost some of the luster

The veggie dinner I had in St. Louis in excellent and you do know what you are in for when you buy the package. I'm in Lincoln now. Told there were about 30 people at sound check in Fargo. I know the first 5 rows did not sell out for VIPs before the package was closed so it will not be 150 people there. Time will tell just how many people are there. In Milwaukee last summer, they got the longest sound check ever. There were technical difficulties so Paul kept having them work on the sound and doing songs again. I was in the parking lot. I thought I had timed it to arrive after sound check but I heard a good hour of it. Needless to say, the doors opened very late. That caused people to fain due to the intense heat and humidity that night.

I was at the Memphis SC last year and there were about 3 rows of us. I'd guess about 125 people maybe. Paul played 1 hour and 15 minutes! It was great!

I'm hoping the fact that he won't have played a show the night before (since the schedule has now changed) might mean he plays a little longer. I could see a short one if he played another city the night before.

I wish I'd known that the public could ge access to the sound check in 2002. I bought a venue VIP ticket that came early admittance with a dinner and 8th row seat, but no sound check!

Someone may have answered that already, but when did the soundcheck package begin? The 2002 tour? How much did it cost back then?

I did not know about sound check packages in 2002. I also did a venue package that put in the 5th row. Paul was running late, so we did get to hear some of it. Shelly said tonight that she has worked for Paul for 25 years. Has it always been doing the sound check packages? That would be since the 1989 concerts. I did the LIPA package in 1993 and at the venue that I attended there were no other groups at the sound check. Just us. Talk about disappointment. Our concerts seats were at the sound board.

I had friends who did a LIPA soundcheck in 1993. If I recall, they were seated/stood right at the soundboard (it was a stadium show). The soundchecks in 2002 were run by a company called Fan Asylum that I believe Shelley was associated with at the time, or owned, or the person who started it used to work for her, or something like that. I never bought any of those packages but had friends who did - I believe those also included hotel in the price of the package.

I do recall Fan Asylum now. They had chairs for us on a platform by the sound board. It's further back in a stadium than an indoor venue. We did have a private port-a-potty, but that didn't make us feel any better. James did sit on the platform with us and Stella sat under some kind of framing rig off to the side of us. This was also the tour when Mary was an assistant, so she was around us a lot during the sound check and show.

I did a venue VIP for the 2002 show hoping to see something special. We got in early and a buffet dinner (too spicy for me!), but that was it - no sound check. I had thought the venue VIP was the best shot. I got an 8th row seat in front of Rusty out of it though - Rusty is pretty cute!

I know that Fan Asylum packages used to come with hotel accommodations and really good seats, I thought I remembered soundchecks as well, but perhaps not. I had friends who bought packages from them but I never did.
