One of the great American songwriters just released his first CD of original material in 13 years. I love this.

"The only true patriotism, the only rational patriotism is loyalty to the nation all the time, loyalty to government when it deserves it."

I have absolutely no idea who he is.  Not like Taylor Swift, who I hear about all the time but have never heard a single song of hers.  I have never even heard this guy's name.  The fact that he's releasing his first album in 13 years means he's been around a while.  I'm fascinated by the idea.  I'll definitely look into it.

Here's a good article about John Prine: https://pitchfork.com/features/overtones/life-death-and-john-prine/

He's never been huge on the charts (though his new album debuted at #5, his best chart performance ever), but his songs have been recorded by nearly everyone: Bette Midler, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, John Denver and more.

I listened to "Linda Goes to Mars" based on Bill Murray's recommendation.

It's funny how such a wide variety of people I know about - Kris Kristofferson, Roger Waters, Bill Murray, Bob Dylan - are praising someone I've never even heard of.  That makes me wonder how many other people are out there.

My brother used to play Paradise (Mr. Peabody's Coal Train) on the guitar when the kids were younger and we'd all get together at Christmas. Super fond memories. Extremely excellent song

One of his albums made Rolling Stone’s top 50 albums of 2018!
